Work Text:
“Before you go I have to ask you something,” Kyles says.
“And what's that?” Levi frowns.
“Umm… actually, it's not really a question… I’m just... I'm letting you know that you’re gonna be on this record…”
“What?” Levi raises his eyebrows.
“There’s this song I’m writing with you in mind and I hope… I want you to sing it with me.”
“Me?” Surprise and disbelief written all over Levi's face.
“Yes, you.” Kyle nods.
“Kyle—”
“Don’t bother saying you're not a ‘singer' because you are and we never sang together on the show… So, this record—I don’t know what’s gonna happen with it… but I know that this is like my golden opportunity to sing with you.” And the fact that Kyle knows Levi’s voice perfectly well and knows what he can do with it really helped to write the song in his mind.
“Golden opportunity?” Levi smiles, rolling his eyes.
“Yeah,” Kyle nods. Levi doesn’t know. It’s something that only people who love him or admire him can see. But he’s one of those people who shine from the inside out. They have a light that illuminates people and brings them happiness and hope… maybe that’s their purpose in life. They are on earth to make it a better and brighter place. "The way I see it, I'm a singer who can act but you are an actor who can sing really fucking well, you know? And that's why I wanna do this with you. Our relationship is only half of the reason."
“Okay,” Levi nods. He'll do it to make Kyle happy but he does not see himself as a singer and nothing other people say will really change his mind. “I’ll do it. For you, I'll do it but you know what it means, right?”
Kyle snorts, smiling. “Umm... You mean I’ll owe you one?”
“You know me so well,” Levi nods, leaning to find Kyle’s lips, kissing him softly before holding Kyle’s head to deepen the kiss.
“I wish I could stay,” Levi says, caressing Kyle’s cheek with his right hand.
“You’re working too much.”
Maybe Kyle is right. Maybe he's been really stressed this month but it’s always the same when a show is about to start and they are still filming. Kyle has also been there and knows it perfectly well, so he can't be any surprised or annoyed; Levi knows that Kyle just worries and wishes he had more free time.
“You know I’m not gonna bother to contradict you… but you don’t have to worry. This shit will be over soon. After I grab a hot shower I’ll be good as new.” Levi smiles, running his fingers through Kyle’s hair. “And this weekend I’ll take out to dinner to some really nice place, okay?”
“That sounds great," Kyle nods, "but I forgot… actually, your brother asked me out first…” Kyle bites his lip, raising his eyebrows.
“He called you,” it’s a statement, not a question. Nothing strange with that anymore.
“Yeah, he said he’s visiting on Friday… he’d like to see you—”
Levi snorts, “Sure.”
“It’s true," Kyle nods.
“Then, why haven’t I heard from him in four months and why did he call you? Why does he always call you? He could have texted me at least."
“Because you were at work and he knows that? Also, he doesn’t like texting… it’s not his thing… you know that…”
“Don’t do that, okay? Don’t try to justify everything he does. I don’t like it when you do that and besides, he doesn’t deserve it.”
“Seriously, Levi… he’s—He’s a good guy…” Kyle shrugs.
“You don’t know him as I do,” Levi says, stubbornly.
“I'm sure I don't. And maybe... just maybe... could it be because you haven't told me the whole story?”
“It’s just…” Levi sighs, “you don’t need to know everything.” Levi shakes his head. When Levi thinks about it, it’s not just one thing—It’s the sum of many things. Talking about all of them is not something he feels like doing and maybe deep down he likes that Kyle won’t judge his brother as he does because of all that.
“You know, if he wasn’t fucking straight I’d think that he’s into you—because he’s never… ever... been this nice to any of my boyfriends before. In fact, I don’t think he migh have exchanged more than a couple of words with them. You have him enchanted or something… but then again, I can’t really be surprised about that...” Especially considering that he fell for Kyle the moment he saw him.
“Your big brother loves you and he’s—”
Levi snorts. “There are two minutes between us… just two minutes, he’s not that big, no matter what he tells you… Yes, he might be my twin but we don’t look alike and we are nothing alike—”
“Okay,” Kyle interrupts him, “then your twin brother… who obviously loves you, is trying to fix things between you two. And look, if any of my brothers didn’t talk to me for four months, it would drive me crazy.”
“Yeah, because Ilya and Daniel can’t compare to him. They're fucking normal.”
Kyle snorts. “Not sure I’d use that word to describe them… they are both very particular, believe me, but anyway, whatever… the thing is that your brother wants you back in his life and he’s the only brother you’ve got… so, as long as he’s honest, and I really think he is, I feel that you should put your differences aside and give him a chance.”
“Kyle… I didn’t start this… It’s not—”
“Really?" Kyle raises his eyebrows. "Who gives a shit who started it?” Kyle asks, shaking his head. As far as he’s concerned, whatever happened has been blown up out of proportion and it’s time to end it. “You’re always saying how you’re more mature than he is, blah blah blah… so I say prove it, because if you don’t do anything... if you two don’t talk, then, nothing's gonna change.”
“Kyle, he—”
“I’m not finished,” Kyle presses two fingers against Levi’s lips. “It’s just… you think you have your fans, right? All these people who adore you, as they should, and you feel loved, don't you? I know that because I do too. And obviously, your career is your priority and you focus all your energy on that, and of course, you have me too. Now I’m right here for you and as much as I think that your career is just starting, even if you've been doing this for so long, you never know what can happen… one day, your fans and I could be gone but your brother is your family and he should always be there for you. I know what it feels like to have no family... to be left utterly alone, and I don’t want you to ever experience that. So, don’t let your pride get in the way any longer. You’re not that kind of person.”
“You’re so wrong,” Levi shakes his head.
“What do you—”
“You are my priority. Yes, I love what I do, probably because there’s nothing else I’m good at... but if I had to, I could leave it behind… What I couldn’t live without is you.”
“Levi—”
“It’s the truth." Levi interrupts Kyle. "So, don’t even think that you could not be next to me one day, okay? That's never gonna happen. At least if it's up to me—But I hear you,” Levi nods. “Besides, I’m too weak to fight your power of persuasion anyway… and it’s not like I want to disappoint you either. Plus, I’m sure you already told him I’d be there, right?” Levi raises his eyebrows.
“I... Yeah, I might have,” Kyle admits, biting his lip.
“It’s okay,” Levi sighs. “I’ll be there.”
“Levi,” Kyle holds Levi’s right hand. “You wouldn’t disappoint me but I’m glad you’re doing this… it really is the right thing.”
Levi nods but stays silent. “Okay, it’s getting late and I need to shower, so…”
“Yeah, go… I also have stuff to do.”
“Right,” Levi says, letting go of Kyle’s hand as he gets up and takes a few steps to head to the second floor of their apartment where the bedroom and bigger bathroom are located.
“One thing,” Kyle says.
“Yeah?” Levi turns around.
“Send me Yoo’s number later, okay?”
Levi shakes his head, frowning. “His number?”
The truth is that if Kyle wants Yoo's number he has other ways to get it and he didn’t need to ask him, so the only reason why he asked him is that he wanted Levi to know he had it and he was planning on texting him.
“Yep,” Kyle nods, raising his eyebrows. “But later. Go, have a shower.”
“Fine,” Levi nods. “Should I even bother asking why?” Levi asks, raising his eyebrows.
“Umm…” Kyle shakes his head, smiling. “You don’t need to know everything.”
“Right,” Kyle says, rolling his eyes, before heading upstairs.
