Three days later, the Druid girl dragged herself from the mountain of bodies, a scream stuck in her throat. When she turned to look at the corpses, her mouth filled with a bitter liquid and she retched her stomach bile onto the trampled leaves. She closed her eyes, but she still saw the tangled pile of stiffened limbs and staring eyes. At that moment, she knew knew that wherever she went for the rest of her life, however long she lived, she would carry her dead village with her.
“Where were you?” she screamed up at the sky. “Where were you, Emrys?”
In another dimension, a god stirred.
