Day 2: Package

Summary:

When you’re friends notice small details, it could lead to them asking questions.

Work Text:

A big part of a relationship is communication. But with the two people in the relationship being halfway across the world from each other, it was hard to manage. Because of timezone differences, one could be in the middle of the day, while the other could just be waking up. Or one would be about to sleep, while the other could be eating lunch. But just because it was hard to manage, doesn’t mean it was impossible.

Marinette and Damian, though far away from each other, had always managed to find some time to speak to each other. Whether it was for ten minutes, or a couple of hours, there was always a part of their day where they would talk to one another.

Whenever either of them was too busy, to make up for lost time, they would send each other gifts. Though expensive, for one side of the relationship, it was always worth it to see their smile on the next video chat. Though neither of them would admit it, it was nice to see their loved ones happy about something they got them.

Recently, because Damian wasn’t couldn’t talk to his beloved this past week because of school and Robin issues, he had sent her a couple of things to make up for it. The last time he had spoken to her, he had mentioned that he might not be able to talk because something had come up, and although she told him she understood and stuff like that happens, he just had to show his love another way. Hopefully, she wouldn’t look too far into the price of the things he had bought her.

“Marinette! A package came in for you!”

It was the first thing she had heard from her parents. Getting out of her bed and going downstairs, Marinette took her package from her parents and went back towards her room. From the glance at the address, it was sent from, it put a smile on her face. Yelling out a thank you, she set the package down.

Taking a pair of scissors from her desk, she cut through the tape that was closing the box and set it back down. Opening the box fully, allowed her to see the different things inside. From what she could see, there were different small boxes, which suspiciously looked like jewelry boxes, and a letter placed on top.

Ignoring the boxes for the moment, she took the letter, opened it, and read what was inside.

Ya Rouhi (يا روحي),

I apologize that these unseen unfortunate events have prevented us from seeing each other. Please enjoy these gifts to make up for the missing time.

Marinette had a lovesick smile on her face. Carefully putting the letter somewhere safe to cherish it, she pulled out the different arrangement of boxes. In total, she counted seven.

Opening them, she gasped at all of them, each beautiful on its own. Three of them were bracelets, two were necklaces, and two were rings. For one of each of them, they had her signature colors, white and pink, incorporated into them, while the other ones had her less known colors, red and black.

Though the one she loved the most was the third bracelet. Though it could seem like a charm bracelet, it had made her love it more. There was a ladybug charm, which had its red and black spots, a robin, which resembled Damian’s suit, and a bow, which was blue and emerald.

Marinette noted that the bow had matched her and Damian’s eye color. She put on that bracelet while putting the rest of the jewelry in a jewelry box she had for every piece of jewelry Damian had given her.

Taking her phone out, she sent a message to Damian and a voice message expressing her love for the gifts and put her phone down. She took her time memorizing the bracelet given to her.

When Marinette went to school the Monday after, she had worn the bracelet she had come to love, and one a necklace that had matched her regular attire for the school day.

For the first time in a very long time, Marinette left for school early, taking some breakfast with her. Walking across the street and into the doors of France Dupont, Marinette walked to her class, knowing that she would make it on time.

When she made it up the stairs and into her class, she waved at the surprised faces of the people in her class. Making it to her seat, she sat down and waved at Alya, giggling at her surprised expression.

Alya had finally got out of her surprised expression when she heard Marinette laughing at her. Ignoring it, she finally said the question that was on everyone’s mind.

“Girl! You’re here early. That’s a first.” Alya exclaimed. Marinette kept a smile on her expression, took out her breakfast, and started to eat it. “Are you the real Marinette? Or are you an akuma? If not, are you trying to see more of you know who?” Alya asked, ending with a smirk.

Though Alya had a certain blonde in mind, Marinette had someone else in mind, who didn’t live anywhere close to Paris, nonetheless France. But albeit, Marinette’s cheeks turned pink.

“No.” She stuttered, turning her head to face the direction of the board.

Alya looked over at her best friend and noticed that Marinette was wearing a necklace. “Marinette, where’d you get the necklace?” Alya’s eyes glanced at the bracelet on her wrist. “And the bracelet?”

“Oh,” Marinette said aloud, not expecting anyone to pay attention to the small details like accessories. “I got it from someone special,” Marinette told her. Alya took that moment to stare at her, believing that she wasn’t telling the full truth. Marinette ignored her in favor of looking at her phone, which had buzzed with a notification.

心肝 (xīn gān)

Have you gotten up yet

Alya had glanced over her shoulder, wanting to be nosey and see who she was texting, but when she saw the screen, she couldn’t understand the name of the person nor could she understand what any of their text messages had said. Marinette didn’t seem to care about that, seeing as she sent him a text back.

********

Marinette, so far, was having an alright day. Sure, many of the girls had asked her about her necklace, and few asked about the bracelet, but it seemed like they were all expecting her to answer. Marinette knew they didn’t know of her relationship with Damian, and she was going to keep it that way. That is until she asked him if he was comfortable with her telling her friends.

But besides that, the day was one of her best. She had gotten to text Damian, sometimes in the middle of class. She was glad it was lunchtime. She had two hours of free time. It would usually be reserved for her to go home and talk to Damian until it was time for either of them to go back to school, but since she didn’t want to bother him, especially since he said he was busy for some time, she took this time to spend it at school.

Of course, this meant her sitting next to the girls and them with their never-ending questions.

“Marinette, I know we’ve been asking all day, but who did you get this jewelry from?” Alya had asked. The other girls chimed in, all agreeing and asking the same question again. Marinette only sighed and ate some of her lunch.

“I’ve already told you guys. I got it from someone special.” Marinette explained.

“But who is this someone special?” Alix asked, leaning in forward, closer to Marinette.

Marinette sighed. “I-” Marinette was going to explain why she couldn’t say who it exactly was, but she had seen someone behind Alix, standing at the doors of the cafeteria. Standing up from her seat, she walked over to them, ignoring her friends.

Standing there was Damian, looking around the cafeteria for her. When Marinette got up to walk towards him, he made eye contact with her, while she just kept on walking towards him. When she got a bit closer, her walk turned into a jog, and she finally made it arm's length close to him.

When she made it to him, the first thing she did was hug him, after not seeing him in person for the first time in a long time. Marinette felt his arms wrap around her. She kept her head in his chest, enjoying being in his arms.

Marinette had taken a moment to relax in his arms, before looking up at him. “I thought you were busy helping your family all week?” Marinette questioned.

“We finished sooner than expected. Plus I wanted to surprise you.” Damian murmured in her ear. Marinette giggled and separated from him and grabbed his hand.

“Maman and Papa would want to see you.” She said, taking him out of the cafeteria and to her bakery, leaving her confused classmates.
