Work Text:
“So Cas is out right?” Sam says from his seat at the table where his eyes are glued to his laptop as Dean enters the bunker kitchen.
“Yeah, I took him for a ride earlier.” Dean says, thinking Cas will be back from tending to his bees before too long.
“You what?” Sam sputters and looks up.
“What? He needed one, I volunteered, he said yes, end of story.” Dean says confused.
“I mean, that's great Dean, and honestly a long time coming but... TMI.”
“What the fuck are you talking about?”
“You and Cas sleeping together! You've been pining after one another for years. I'm happy you finally got your act together. Or... Please tell me you are together and you're not just using him to get your rocks of?”
Emotions travel fast over Deans face. Panic, anger, disbelief, and he also looks like Sam lost his mind. “He told you?! I can't believe he told you! But no, I'm not using him, screw you!”
“Who Cas? No, he didn't tell me anything. You just did.”
“What, no I didn't!”
“Yes you did! You said you took him for a ride after I asked if he was out. It was literally only a minute ago!”
Dean freezes. “Dude, no! That's not what I meant.” He says, retracing their conversation in his head. “I meant he was out as in 'he's out tending to his goddamn bees again' and I gave him a lift to the hives since he left his car there last time.”
“Oh, so, but then, you're not together. But you said...” Sam looks confused.
“Eh... well we are. I just didn't wanna tell people yet.”
“Oh... And you though Cas said something behind your back. Yeah no, he hasn't. I didn't know until you told me.”
“Fuck!”
“Does it really matter that I know? I think it's great Dean!” Sam says gently.
“I guess it doesn't really matter what I think since you know either way. Why did you wanna know if he was out anyways?” Dean asks in an attempt to steer the conversation to another subject. He starts puttering about in the kitchen to distract himself.
“Oh right, I think I might have found a case. Listen to this!” Sam says and looks down to his computer screen again. “Since 1993 on June 27th 6 non straight people have died surrounded by suspicious circumstances in Poulsgate, Washington. There have also been 5 cases of serious accidents on the same date. And those are only the ones I've found so far. I think it might be our kind of thing.” He continues.
“Yeah ok, so today is June 23. Wanna head up there, poke around a bit and see what we can dig up?” Dean asks. “Still doesn't explain why you asked if Cas was out though.” He adds wondering if he can forget the beginning of this conversation ever happened. Probably not.
“Yeah. I figured it'd be worth looking around. And um, I though Cas' perspective might be useful considering the victims. And also he might be better at getting people to open up than you or me in this case.” Sam says and looks up again to see Dean start pulling stuff from the refrigerator. “You're making dinner already?”
“Never too early to eat, and definitely never too early for burgers! We can head out tonight if you want. And are you seriously claiming Cas is the one with people skills, that's just weird.”
“Hey Cas!” Dean says when Cas enters the bunker a couple of hours later.
“Hello Dean!”
“So, you know how I didn't want you to tell anyone yet? Especially not Sam?”
“Yes Dean. I will of course continue to wait until you feel comfortable sharing the status of our relationship with others before I inform anyone.”
“Ehrm well, Sammy accidentally found out. So, no need to hide it from him anymore.” Cas tilts his head to the side a puts on his thinking-face before he says.
“Does that mean I can kiss you when he's around?” Dean looks a bit taken aback by the question. As if on queue Sam enters the room.
“Oh hey Cas, did Dean tell you about the new case?”
“Hello Sam! No not yet. But I got your text. I am prepared to 'head out' if you just give me a few minutes. You can inform me on the way.”
“I guess so...?” Dean says, answering Cas' question.
“Well, in that case I think it was a most fortunate accident.” Cas says and gives Dean a kiss. “At times I find it exceedingly difficult to pretend.” Cas continues and then goes back to smooching.
Dean thinks maybe he's right about the accident!
