The first is always the most special.
Where all the memories blossom. Traditions are born and loved ones are all around to experience them. It’s special, important. What starts today may carry on for years to come. Every little detail matters.
So when Jimin’s half-demon boyfriend visits from the underworld, he focuses more than ever on perfection. The cool tunes of jazz fill the room as Jimin continues decorating the tree. The smell of sugar cookies intoxicates the air as the warmth from Jimin’s fireplace hugs them tightly.
Celebrating any and every holiday that flies by is something Jimin has been known for. How else will a vampire use their time? Each year becomes grander than the last. It’s always new, exciting.
Just like their relationship. Despite both walking this earth for centuries now, they’ve only recently met.
While many half-demons dwell underneath the earth, Taehyung’s different. Unlike most demons, he prefers his blood and souls fresh. Hunting them down for sport as he savours every last drop while using their souls to keep his youth. He glows with every meal.
Unluckily for them, the holiday season always proves to be a busy time for mortals. The travelling, the busy streets, even in hospitals where the two get their supplies. Most days, they can simply sneak in and get their fill. Feast on the weak and end their suffering.
Not during December, however.
Instead, Jimin hypnotizes a doctor to save a tub of packaged blood. Only enough to hold him over. It’s for survival.
But this is a special occasion, which is why Jimin pours the thick, deep red liquid into wine glasses. Licking off the drops that have gotten on his fingers. A rush of ecstasy goes through his body. Throwing his head back, he moans a sweet release.
Nothing tastes better than humans. Brushing his thumb against his lips, he presses the last bit on his tongue. Energy builds within. At this rate, he’s ready to drain his entire supply.
“At least save some for me,” a familiar voice says from the window.
Quickly turning around, he’s met with love. Taehyung sitting on the window sill. One leg hanging while the other prompts him up. His dark, curly brown hair fell so effortlessly on his face. Honey kissed skin glowing as the sun shines on it. He smirks, fondly looking over.
Jimin melts, “Better come quick before it’s all gone.”
“Is that a threat, Park?” Taehyung starts, jumping down from the window as he struts towards the vampire, “‘cause you know I love a challenge.”
Jimin can’t help but grin. Rich chocolate eyes crinkling in the corners. He’s smitten, unapologetically so. The moment Taehyung enters a room, the rest of the world disappears. Placing his arms on Taehyung’s shoulders, he softens as Taehyung cups his hands on Jimin’s waist.
“Hi,” Jimin whispers, leaning in for a kiss.
Without a second too late, he nodded his head. On his toes, he meets Taehyung’s face. Inching his way towards the demon in front of him, he grazes the tip of his nose against Taehyung’s.
The distance between their lips was getting smaller, their chests pressing dangerously close together. Breathing each other in, their kiss finally landed on their lips.
The softness held in his cushioned lips had not changed, thankfully. The kisses continue to leave their mark on their lips as they can’t help but press harder. Softly putting his hand on Taehyung’s jaw, he pushes in for more. Deeper and deeper they go, it’s enough to put an arch in Jimin’s back as he falls into Taehyung’s arms.
Warm, cozy, even a tad more pleasant than usual. Sinking into the moment, he places most of his weight onto Taehyung’s shoulder. The two stay like this, allowing the world to only consist of this small apartment.
Once they part, Jimin takes a deep breath. Swollen, red lips stretch into a small smile. Saying he’s in love would be an understatement. If an eternity will look like this, then he’ll thank the stars every night.
“So,” Taehyung breaks the tension, deepening his voice, “Are we still having that drink?”
Snickering, Jimin nods as he hands over the half-full wine glass of blood. Taehyung’s fingers wrap around the crystal cup while watching Jimin’s every move. Before taking a sip Jimin clears his throat.
“To our first Christmas. May a million and more be shared between us.”
The two clink their glasses, finishing off their cheers. Blood pours down Jimin’s throat at last. The sweetness takes over his taste buds. The mortal this blood belonged to enjoyed their desserts, lucky for Jimin.
Taehyung sighs heavily after his drop. Chuckling, he goes to wipe his lips. Suddenly he is stopped. Wrists in the clutches of Jimin. Tension builds as Taehyung begins to glare.
“What are you—“
“Here,” Jimin says as he gazes into Taehyung’s lips, “Let me clean you up.”
Reaching over for the handkerchief in Taehyung’s pocket, Jimin lightly dabs Taehyung’s lips. Soft, gentle presses as Taehyung practically black eyes pierce into him. He can’t help but stare. Taehyung’s lips are already plump from their kissing. It invites him in, practically tempting him for more.
Instead, the moment flies by and Jimin remembers; there’s a present in the closet with Taehyung’s name on it. Lights flicker in his eyes as the sudden memory has him rushing to the other side of the room.
“Did I do anything?” Taehyung asks, scrunching his eyebrows as he watches with scrunched eyebrows and a narrowing look.
Jimin giggles, “No, I just remembered I have something for you!”
Returning back with a large gift box, his eyes turn into crescent moons as the corners of his lips curve. The gift itself is large. Covered in red wrapping paper filled with stars, tied together with a silver bow, it’s only the second prettiest thing in the room.
Taehyung’s face doesn’t change. First, he pokes. The box barely moves within his lover’s hands. Once again, he touched the box. The seconds standstill as Taehyung continues.
Jimin ends up asking, “Have you never seen a gift before?”
Taehyung scoffs, “Yeah, but usually they’re attached to mortals. Not in cubed capsules.”
Reluctantly, Taehyung takes the box. Keeping his distance as the unknown brings slight discomfort. As he continues his staring contest with Jimin’s gift, Taehyung suddenly feels a pair of hands on his shoulders.
Jimin rolls his eyes, “It’s Christmas, all mortals do this.”
“What,” Taehyung pauses, looking up at Jimin, “What do I do with it?”
“How do you not—“
And that’s when Jimin recalls; this is Taehyung’s first mortal Christmas. Demons don’t celebrate holidays the same way mortals do, the ones who live within the underworld anyways. It’s all unexplored, confusing, vastly different.
With a sigh, Jimin makes his way to the table in front of Taehyung. Moving closer, Jimin reaches out and delicately holds Taehyung’s hands. Wrapping all of his fingers around Taehyung’s, his expression softens.
“Do you want to open it together?” Jimin offers.
Taehyung nods, pulling Jimin in. As he guides Jimin to his lap, Jimin brings the gift alongside him. Placing the box on Jimin’s lap, Taehyung opens the gift with his one free hand.
Tearing into the gift wrapping, Jimin giggles, “Easy there.”
Taehyung tunes the world out. Unleashing the mystery out of this box one rip at a time. Now left with a plain cardboard box, Taehyung rips the top open in one swift motion. It’s here, he pulls out his gift.
No questions are answered as Taehyung holds a smaller black box in his hand. Leaning his head to the side, he scrunches his nose to it. As he brings the smaller box closer, he scratches the velvet texture. Smoothness runs under his fingernails while he trails his fingers around the small piece.
Unexpectedly, the box opens. Taehyung raises his eyebrows as his breath hitches. Laying on a silky bed, there are two pieces of jewelry. Silver bands with a dark blue gem stuck in the middle. As it sparkles in the light, he moves the box to see all its glory.
“Do you like it?” Jimin asks with doe-eyes and a sparkling smile.
Taehyung snickers, “They’re lovely, but I’m not sure what these are.”
Grabbing Taehyung’s wrist, Jimin rolls down Taehyung’s blazer sleeve to expose his dress shirt. Folding down the cuffs of his sleeve as he lines up the two sides, Jimin puts the deep blue piece through the hole.
Securing the piece with the backing, he slides his hand into Taehyung’s. Interlocking their fingers into one another. Their grasp starts getting tighter. It feels like forever.
“See?” Jimin says, “It’s to keep your sleeves looking neat. Many of the mortal men wear them.”
Taehyung’s eyes glisten as his chest blooms. Warmth oozes deep within his bones. It’s a feeling he can get used to, thanks to Jimin. Resting his head against Jimin’s chest, he thanked him quietly.
“And look,” Jimin shows his hand, the large deep blue ring adorning his ring finger, “It matches my sun ring. So we’ll always be together somehow.”
“I love it,” Taehyung softly reassures, a small curve carved into his face.
As he gently places his hand on the nape of Jimin’s neck, he brings him in for one more kiss. When their lips part, they both pressed their foreheads against the other. As Jimin took in every breath Taehyung gave, he caressed his thumb against Taehyung’s cheek.
But Jimin could tell instantly someone was amiss. The energy in Taehyung dropped mere seconds after the gift was given. Lifting his head up, Jimin pets Taehyung lightly.
“What’s troubling you?” Jimin asks with a sickly sweet voice.
Taehyung sighs, breaking eye contact as he looks down at his cufflinks. Silence suffocates the room as it battles with the soft jazz that’s still playing from Jimin’s record player.
Normally, Taehyung would stay quiet for a while. Taking his time as he builds up the courage to explain his thoughts. So naturally, Jimin uses his patience and waits.
But today was different.
Twisting his lips to the side, he caves in and reveals his feelings, “I didn’t know I had to bring you something. I’m sorry, my love.”
Jimin coos, “Oh baby, I wasn’t expecting anything. You’re here and that’s all that matters.”
Right when Taehyung is about to say something, he looks out the window. The ball of sunshine that once took over his face has now darkened, resembling more of the midnight sky with the moon peeking through. It throws Taehyung into an idea.
“How about as your gift, I take you out for dinner.”
Jimin glows, giving small little claps as his excitement can barely be contained, “Where to?”
Taehyung smirks, “That alley near the bar outside your apartment.”
Jimin smiles, “I’ll grab my coat.”
As the two jump out their window, running off into the midnight sky, they begin their feast already full of love.
