Together + 1

Summary:

"The piercing cry woke Vi up immediately. She had just started sleeping again, but little Nick was testing all their boundaries since he was born. She was sure she didn't have more than 3 consecutive hours of sleep since Nicholas came to the world. Actually, since before then, when Vi was huge and her back and stomach were killing her and her feet were the size of balloons. Vi grunted and turned on their bed, but then felt Caitlyn's hand on her back."

Notes:

This is a sequel to my other omegaverse!violyn, because I just didn't stop to think they deserve all the fluff and love and domestic fondness in the world!

Again, I wrote this really fast, English is not my first language but I have a lot of feelings, so beware the mistakes.

Also, happy holidays to everyone!

Work Text:

The piercing cry woke Vi up immediately. Vi grunted and turned on their bed, but then felt Caitlyn's hand on her back.

"I'll go, you just fed him," Cait said and got up before Vi could make any other move.

"Thanks," Vi said and was out even before Caitlyn got out of their room.

Caitlyn knew Vi was exhausted, she kind of was too. But all this maternity adventure took its toll on Vi. She was always open to the changes, and more than once she told Cait she didn't know she would be so happy to be a mother, but it was hard on her. Well, at least she was sure it was all worth it.

Nicholas was six months old now, and he was looking more and more like Caitlyn. Vi always said it was good that he looked so much like Cait, since it meant he was going to be a handsome, and wishfully just as righteous, boy. Caitlyn was not so sure about all that, but enjoyed her spouse's enthusiasm. She took Nick off his cradle and shook him gently in her arms.

"What is it you want now, baby boy?" She asked, obviously rhetorically, while trying to calm him down. Caitlyn knew her scent usually had a good calming effect on him, so she was sure to really exhale it.

While Cait walked around the room, shaking her son and humming a song from her childhood, she thought about what else she could do to soothe the baby. Her fingers stroked the chubby cheeks and cleaned his face of the insistent tears. His eyes were steel-gray like his mother's, and just as expressive, but his thin and barely there hair was dark blue like Caitlyn's and her father's. The shape of his eyes were more like her father's too.

Nicholas started to calm down, the weeping almost stopped now. Caitlyn thought she was good to sit and begin trying to make him sleep again, but as soon as she sat on the nursing chair, Nicholas started crying full force again. The crying forced her to stand up, and she began to roam the room again. Seeing she wasn't meant to stop walking, she started to walk around their house.

They moved here not so long ago, realizing their apartment was too small for their new family. It wasn't a mansion like her parent's, but it was much larger than their last home. Caitlyn's feet kept moving, and she startled when she was already almost outside. The night was warm, so she didn't think it'd be that bad if she actually got to stroll around outside a bit. So she did.

The sky was full of heavy clouds, and the winds were warm and clammy. A few little dots of stars could be seen between the denser clouds, and she started to talk to Nick. Cait told him about the stars, the clouds and the hot nights that were to come. She also used the time to scent him, exhaling more of her own scent and rubbing on him a bit. He slowly stopped crying again, but she wasn't so naive to think he would sleep so fast anymore.

"And when it's this warm again and you're older, we can play with water balloons outside. Or even get a pool, that would be fun too," Cait said. "We can even call uncle Jayce, but I know he and your mommy will be super competitive with the water balloons so maybe we should try this when you're older…" she laughed.

"Your grandmother actually hates this weather. She doesn't like to sweat all over her clothes while outside, or inside in this matter. She says it's not dignified. She will say this a lot to you, but I hope you pay it no mind. It's just... her way," Caitlyn continued talking, lost in her thoughts. "But I'm sure grandfather Tobias will love to run around with you and play even on the hottest of days. So don't worry. I just wished you could meet your other grandparents, mommy's parents…"

"I think they would be delighted to meet him too," Vi's voice came from the door to the backyard.

"Vi! You should be sleeping, I said I got him for now," Cait said, worried about how much time her wife spent not-sleeping.

"I woke up again, and couldn’t go back to sleep," Vi said, which was probably a lie, but Caitlyn didn't want to argue right now. "At least he seems calmer now."

"He is, he likes to be scented and likes walking," Cait said, "and we're doing both now."

"I just wish he liked sleeping an entire night, too," Vi said. Her voice sounded exhausted, and Caitlyn felt so helpless she couldn't do more than she already did.

"He will, someday," Cait said, reminding them both that this was just a phase, "and maybe someday we'll miss this, or look back at it with more fondness."

"I sure hope not," Vi quipped. "Can you imagine us some time in the future wanting to live through this all over again…?" She smirked.

"Are… are you serious…?" Caitlyn said, not sure how to take her wife's jokes.

"I mean, in the future, when we forget about all this and…" but she can't continue because Cait marched her way to her and slapped a kiss into her lips so fast she didn't know how they're not hearing the piercing cries of Nicholas again.

"We'll talk more about this," Cait said, smiling into the next kiss onto Vi's lips. "Right now we still have one baby to put to sleep."
