Work Text:
Kageyama woke up to the sound of waves splashing in the background, undoubtedly crashing into the side of the rocking ship. The salty ocean smell filling his nostrils as he attempted to clear his bleary vision, blurred from the forcefully induced sleep he’d been delivered to the back of his head. Yet as he fights off the lull of sleep, forcing his heavy eyes open, he finds himself purged in darkness before immediately trying to blink a few times to make sure he isn't dreaming. However in the end, the ultimate conclusion was that his vision wasn’t foggy and he was, in fact, blindfolded.
Deciding to ignore this factor, Kageyama finds himself cringing at the salty taste of the cloth in his mouth, separating his teeth from his tongue while muffling him; undoubtedly stopping any easy escape which may have come to the young prince's mind. So the pirates weren’t idiots, Kageyama would give them that. Yet once again, he finds himself ignoring this as he instead hopes that the saltiness flooding his mouth was just the cloth being damp from seawater.
After gaining his bearings of the situation, Kageyama attempts to move his limbs only to find that they were tied together with his arms wrapping uncomfortably around a wooden pole while his feet met, tied together at his ankles. Winching at the ache in his shoulders from the long suspension, he tries to struggle free just to discover there is no remaining strength left in his body to even try untie the ropes and free himself from his restraints.
At the new realization, he finds himself trying to resist the tears springing in his eye, threatening to fall, as he stays stuck on the floor, his body aching and his clothes drenched in sweat.
All the young prince could remember from his foggy memory was admiring the view from the deck of his ship, setting sail back to the city of Karasuno, before a pack of pirates attacked. He hadn’t been given enough time to even process the situation, let alone able to try to recognize the familiar teal that the culprits were decked in before one of the perpetrators got behind him, knocking Kageyama out cold from his blindspot at the back of his head.
As he sat in silence, the crash of the waves filling the otherwise quiet room, Kageyama found himself wishing more than he’d ever done before for the sound of something, anything, to fill his ears. He’d never wanted more than he did at this moment to hear someone speak, to him or to someone else; it didn’t matter, just simply so he could hear the sound. It would no longer plague him alone to fall victim to his intruding thoughts, dark unruly hair, brushed to perfection so the brown locks would fall over chocolate brown eyes which had Kageyama melting whenever they’d look at him.
Except no matter how hard he prayed, begging internally for someone, for something, to make noise other than the familiar sound of waves, he still couldn’t hear above the barest minimum of noise which seeped through the cracks, coming in from outside before the last traces of whispers faded within the walls of the room Kageyama was in.
In the end, Kageyama couldn't recall how long he waited for someone to come rescue him before he heard a door open and boots clacking against the wooden floor as footsteps got closer towards where he was tied up, causing Kageyama to sit upright despite knowing he was hopeless with nowhere to go or to escape.
"My, my, look what we have here. Captain sure knows how to find beautiful treasure." A rough hand grabbed his chin and Kageyama flinched harshly, trying to free his head from the man's grip.
Once again, Kageyama found himself unable to escape as the voice spoke again, words slurring as he’d done so as a warm breath close to his face as the scent of alcohol filled his nostrils, causing Kageyama’s eyes to water from the foul scent.
"A feisty one, too." They added, only to be followed by a new, yet also slurred voice.
"What a beauty indeed, I'll fancy a play with him after the captain's done with his round."
Even as someone of royal descent, Kageyama was used to hearing some foul language with all the time he spent on board. But he’d never expected such vile things would be said to him, causing the boy whiplash as he froze in shock, stunned to the point of silence as he no longer tried to rid himself of the hands which lifted his chin in a vice grip. Kageyama found himself unknowing of whether he should be disgusted at the smell of alcohol against his face or what the pirate had just said.
However, before either of the voices could speak again, a deep voice reached Kageyama's ears but unlike the other two, Kageyama could tell that the words weren’t slurred.
"Oi, don't touch the boy. If Oikawa sees, I don't guarantee your hands will still be connected to your arms."
Kageyama's eyebrows furrowed underneath the blindfold at the familiar voice and name. But he wasn't given much time to recall or to dwell on the shadows of the past when another pirate seemingly entered the room, their heavy boots thumping with each footstep.
Then suddenly, out of all the unfamiliar voices; a familiar one sounded, and out of all of them, it was the last voice Kageyama wanted to hear yet at the same time, it was the one he longed for the most.
"I might be your 'great ol' captain', but Iwa-chan's right. Touch him again, Makki, Mattsun, and I'll have your hands cut off."
The two pirates around Kageyama grumbled but even then, despite their obvious complaints, the hand on his chin disappeared and almost immediately Kageyama shrinks into himself, trying to make himself as small as possible, as he feels the presence of the captain get closer while finding himself wishing he wasn't still blindfolded.
"I'll take some time alone with our guest now, thank you."
The captain's voice was smooth and calm but Kageyama knew better than to fall for someone over something so simple like a voice. Though his thoughts didn't seem to matter since following the statement laced with command, Kageyama hears the three other pirates leave the room before his vision is filled with light and his mouth was set free from the cloth, leaving Kageyama coughing, hacking, as he spat onto the floor beside him.
When he finally reins control over his bearings, his throat feeling drier than it had ever been, as Kageyama blinks back the tears which seeped through during his coughing frenzy to see properly, he almost immediately scowls at the familiar smirking face in front of him.
"Miss me, Tobio-chan?"
Oikawa said, his voice laced with amusement as he came to a crouch in front of Kageyama, his elbow resting on his thigh as he let his head rest in his hand while he looked at Tobio with a lazy smirk.
"What do you want, Oikawa-san?" Kageyama spat with as much venom as he could muster in his voice, leaning forward just enough so his arms didn't detach from his shoulders. He didn't want the captain to know how much he actually missed seeing that devilishly handsome face.
"Is that how you greet your lover, princess?"
"You aren't my lover, you left me."
Oikawa chuckled, bringing a hand to Kageyama's cheek but failing as the prince flinched away from his touch. His smirk softened into a smile, one Kageyama refused to admit caused a throb deep inside his chest where it hurt .
He let Kageyama try and run away from the touch until he couldn't anymore, his restraints rendering the prince captive before finally getting to feel the softness of Kageyama's cheek.
"To think I spent so long trying to find you and you thought I was the one that left. How funny, Tobio-chan."
Yet even then, Kageyama refused to speak. Not even looking Oikawa in the eye because he knew, if he did, in a heartbeat, his reason would fail.
"You were gone when I woke up that day. Did you finally decide that I, a lowly pirate scum, wasn't worth a prince's time? Or did you find someone else to warm your bed?"
Kageyama would be lying if he had said those words didn't hurt him. It felt like there was a hand around his throat and daggers through his heart rather than the familiar warmth of a hand on his cheek and no longer could Kageyama hold back the emotions that would constrict his heart, words spilling from his mouth as if they were a tidal wave.
"I didn't want you to stay stuck on land with me and my stupid royal responsibilities! I know how much the sea means to you, I know how much you love being out on sea but I knew I would be taking that from you if I told you to just stay with me! I didn't want a day to come where you'd eventually leave me because you decided that the fucking water is more important than me!"
He didn't wait for a reaction or a response and continued, ignoring the tears that were streaming down his face. "I love you. I do. I've never loved anyone but you. I never thought you were some lowly pirate scum or that I was wasting my time being with you. I was scared. I was scared that you'd get tired of me."
When he finished speaking, panting heavily as tears streamed down his face, Kageyama felt stupid at the silence which followed his words. The silence seemed to linger for a while, the exception being the sound of Kageyama’s soft sobs filling the room as he forced himself not to choke at the sadness which flooded him, forced to face the truth he’d been trying to run from all while trying to dissect the thoughts his ex-lover whom he tried to fault for his insecurities after running away unfairly.
The hand on his cheek slowly slid away causing Tobio to close his eyes at the loss of touch, assuming he’d already gotten his answer for the spilled secrets he’d kept locked deep inside himself, feeling like an even bigger idiot than he had seconds ago. At this point, Kageyama was just hoping that Oikawa would leave him alone after this, at least allowing him to wallow in his own despair or maybe even throw him over.
He could hear the wooden floor creak as Oikawa shifted around him before the sound of fabric tearing filled the room and almost immediately, the tension around his ankles and wrists was gone, vanishing in an instant as Kageyama opened his eyes, eyelashes still hanging with tears, as he looked up; wide-eyed as he brought his arms close to him subconsciously, attempting to rub the ache out.
Mid-rub however, as he was still processing the prior events in misery, despair filling his being at every sentence which replayed in his mind like a film causing the young prince to cringe each time, feeling as if he were about to be sent on another crying spiral, Kageyama was tugged up onto his feet, grunting, only to be slammed against the pole which held him captive a few minutes prior.
"Wha-"
Kageyama’s eyes widened as lips crashed against his own, feeling hands wrap around his wrists causing Kageyama to struggle slightly against Oikawa's hold but the pirate was too strong to even budge.
As he came to the realization of the situation, Kageyama couldn’t help but melt in Oikawa’s arms, falling into the embrace as he’d done many months ago in his own bed. All while his brain set off fireworks, the warmth filling every end of his body as if it were a continuous stream to be polluted.
Guess he hadn’t gotten the answer he’d assumed after all. Not that Kageyama minded. He liked this one much better. And from the way Oikawa’s tongue was exploring his inner walls, so did his beloved pirate.
Oikawa's hands let go of his wrists and settled gently on his waist, pinkies occasionally venturing underneath the hem of Kageyama's pants. Deciding to just let go, Kageyama wrapped his arms tight around Oikawa’s neck, lacing his fingers through the familiar messy mop of hair. When they pulled away from each other after what felt like an eternity, a thin string of saliva connecting their lips, Kageyama brought a hand to Oikawa’s cheek, his thumb caressing the small scar underneath the pirate’s eye. A hand covered his own and Oikawa snuggled his cheek against Kageyama’s soft palm.
“I love you too, princess.”
