Talking with Lisa also made it a little bit clearer to Kaeya that he was the instigator of his and Diluc’s sour relationship. Diluc had one way of dealing with things and Kaeya’s way was clashing with the redheads. The Captain was afraid of being hurt...and so was the one he was hurting. Unlike Diluc who was pushing him away to protect himself from the pain, Kaeya was going out of his way to inflict pain onto the one who he felt had abandoned him. If he could tease and badger the man at any opportunity he would. No wonder Diluc was always on the defensive. Like at the Windblume festival...when he was defending himself when it came to the Ballads of the Breeze contest. A simple question turning it on the querer, making them uncomfortable for asking. Why didn’t Kaeya notice it sooner?
When Diluc said it was time for everyone to leave the Tavern to close up. Kaeya stood up, placed his money on the counter and left without a fight, without a tease, without a backhanded compliment. Just left with a nod and a good night. Surprising the hell out of the Tavern Owner. The next few times were the same and the Winery Owner had backed off on his hen pecking at the Captain’s drinking habits, even giving him a single glass more than usual. Kaeya pretended not to notice but made sure the payment amount was indeed correct.
