Your light is gone

Summary:

Please dear god, take away my ability to write for this is the angstiest shit I ever wrote in my entire life

--------------

XD was a god. He was an eternal being. Rarely something ever moved him. Or at least, moved him that much.

Except death.

Especially death of someone he knew.
Someone he cared for.

His flickering light.

Work Text:

XD just wanted to see how Foolish was doing. Nothing much. Just pure curiosity, a layer covering how much he desired to be with the other all of the time. Days on days, to have him as his companion, his pet, his friend, whatever he wanted, so long they'd be together.

However they couldn't, not anymore.

He teleported as usual right in front of his statue. Or at least where it was supposed to be.

The god inhaled the smoke, the ashes lingering in the air, the grim atmosphere.

“Foolish?”

He almost yelled, but tried to keep his panic in check. The dreadful feeling suffocating his chest instead of the dark clouds around him. He moved through the burned buildings, he looked over every exploded chest and statue.

He couldn't find him.

It was quiet. So quiet. Too quiet. Something was wrong. He didn't know what.

XD was just peeking into Bad's dreams to see if he could tamper in them or if the demon already unconsciously did it himself. But then he felt something. Something had stopped him.

It was just a hunch. A one, fear filling hunch. One that he knew he shouldn't ignore.

Finally after what felt like hours of searching, he saw him. Laying on his side, clothes burned slightly and his back to XD. He flew over immediately and turned him so his body was towards XD.

“Darling..?”

His whisper hung in the air. He got no answer.

His hand travelled down to see dry blood right in the middle of the demigod's stomach. His normally almost golden skin seemed now like a very very pale version of the sun, tainted by crimson droplets. He touched the wound and a small trail of blood followed his finger, its smell making him gag.

His second hand travelled up and found its way onto Foolosh' cheek, now staring into his face.

There was more dried blood on his jaw and tiny bits on his eyelashes, somehow making the scene even more obscene and tragic.

“This isn't- No. Foolish. C'mon. Wake up.”

His silent still emerald green eyes created more holes in XD's soul, or what was left of it anyways. Half of it was just violently teared from him.

Something of a pained whimper escaped him and he soon found himself burying his head into the other's hair, denial refusing to move over to wrath.

He didn't recognize Foolish's scent anymore either. It smelled rotten, it smelled of that cursed crimson substance, staining his hands. It didn't smell like him. It didn't smell like fresh wood, salt and oranges.

It smelt of death. Of despair. Of crying out XD's name when a sword pierced his insides. To no avail. Of having a slow and painful death. Of dying alone. Of exhaustion and disappointment.

“Forgive me, Foolish.”

But his body is already cold and he cannot hear XD.

And XD hates every fiber of this world, of this cruel and brutal world, of this worthless server, of everything and everyone.

He will destroy it, piece by piece. He'll take away Dream's ex-friends, he'll take away his freedom, he'll take away all the control he's got left. He's going to give him a cold death, a slow death, but not until he makes sure he had suffered enough beforehand.

He will rip into shreds, burn into ashes, do absolutely every horrible thing he can imagine to the server and marvel in its players despair, in their confusion, in their anger, in their fear.

Gods don't grieve how everyone else does. There are no five stages. It's only three. Or in this case, two.

Denial and-

Wrath. Plain, burning, rage.

Until he finds peace in their screams, until he finds acceptance in other's cries of pain that match the one's inside him.

His light was gone.

He was now one with the darkness, so why keep caring? Why not just take away all of the lights, those not meant for him?

After all. Mortals have a short period of time to grieve, their lifes end. While gods are eternal. And so is their suffering. So is their grief.
