Chapter Text
"Sneaking down the stairs,
being super duper quiet,
not gonna let anybody know,
that I'm up for snacks!"
I whisper sing while sneaking down the stairs towards the kitchen. My older sister, Dolores can definitely hear me anyway, and the entire family is used to me getting food at night, even if tonight is later than normal. (How could they not be, I do it every night!) But... I'm a super-duper super spy and I need to practice my skills somehow!
I finally get to the kitchen and find the leftovers from dinner. I jump onto the counter and start to eat as I hear a noise outside.
A man quietly slips through the door. With a rat on his shoulder. I recognize him from family photos and hazy memories.
"Tio Bruno...?"
He whips around to face me with a look of shock.
"K-knock, kno-knock, knock, knock on wo-wood," He starts muttering, fidgeting and looking around.
"Tio Bruno, do you want to eat with me and maybe tell me about how you've been?" I hesitantly ask.
"Uh, s-sure..." He awkwardly shuffles over to the table.
"Go ahead and sit down, I'll make us up some plates."
"O-okay. Wo-won't someone notice i-if a lot of food is missing?"
"Oh, everyone is used to me eating in the middle of the night. I have a habit of reading all night and then sleeping for most of the morning."
I bring the plates over to the table and sit down across from him.
"Soooo, how's life...?" I ask as I eat a piece of chicken.
"U-um, I live in the walls."
"Oh, I know. Dolores told me. She figured that if she tells me about everything she hears then she won't accidentally blurt it out to anyone else. She tells me all about your telenovelas and now I'm really invested in what will happen next with the forbidden love with the aunt with no memory."
"Right?! I love that one!" He starts to brighten up. We're nearing the end of our meal.
"Mhmm, it's the best! Hey, do you want to do this every night?" I ask him figuring that I had better make sure that he gets at least one balanced meal a day.
"Sure."
"Do you have a bed in the walls?"
"N-no, I just sleep in my chair."
"Do you want to spend the night with me? Sleeping on a chair can't be good for your back, and I don't remember much from before you left but I do remember that we were really close. Like how when I first got my gift I ran right past my parents, down the stairs and jumped at you," I chuckle.
"Yeah, I remember that." He says smiling.
"Or how you spent the first night in my new room with me. Or how I would hide in your room whenever I was in trouble. A habit that I have kept, I hide out in your room a lot."
"You get in trouble a lot."
"Yeah, I do. So, will you sleep in my room?"
"Alright."
~~~
We go to my room. My room has floating levels, one with my bed on it, one with a sitting space on it, one with an orchestra, one with a library, you get it.
We get ready for bed and go to sleep to the everlasting soundtrack that came with my room.
