Work Text:
Cody heard the sound of the front door opening.
“Cody, I'm home!” Obi-Wan called, stretching out each word.
Cody came out of the kitchen, followed by his brother Rex. Cody had expected Obi-Wan home from work a lot earlier, so he'd been wondering where his boyfriend had been the last hour.
Obi-Wan was looking down, riffling through a plastic shopping bag when Cody walked into the living room. “Hey hon, I got you somethi--” Obi-Wan looked up and went silent when he saw Rex behind his boyfriend. “You know what, never mind,” Obi-Wan smiled innocently.
Cody frowned. “What is it?”
“Yeah Obi-Wan, what is it?” Rex asked teasingly.
“Don't worry about it,” Obi-Wan waved them off playfully. “It's nothing.”
“Oh, don't mind me,” Rex smiled sharkily.
Cody rolled his eyes. The bag was clearly from a local grocery store, so he wasn't sure why Obi-Wan was being so squirrelly. “Just tell me.”
Obi-Wan sighed helplessly and pulled out a very nice-looking safety razor in neutral, dark packaging. Cody had an electric razor for his face, it didn't cut the stubble down quite as closely as a safety razor did, but he thought it did a pretty good job.
Cody rubbed his face with his palm, checking on the light stubble and frowned. “What's that for?”
“Just thought you could use a change,” Obi-Wan said evasively, gaze off to the side.
Rex frowned and moved closer to his brother, examining his face. “His shave looks fine to me.”
“It's uh,” Obi-Wan paused awkwardly, “Not for his face.”
Rex turned away and laughed. “Please don't tell me it's for his balls.”
Cody flushed, turning and pushing his brother away from him. “I don't need help with that, thanks.”
“No, it's for his chest,” Obi-Wan cut over Rex's giggles.
Rex froze in confusion. His giggles suddenly stopped, letting a very uncomfortable silence form between them.
“Babe,” Cody scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. Speaking of shaves, his lower neck was due for another pass, it was just starting to get too bristly. “I thought you liked my chest hair.”
“I do,” Obi-Wan responded quickly, with an edge of frantic energy.
“Then why do you want me to shave it?” Cody asked, feeling a little lost.
Rex was turned away from them, but Cody could tell by his brother's bunched shoulders he was listening for the answer.
Obi-Wan's face went from pale to an embarrassed pink in only a few short seconds. “How about... I tell you later.”
Rex peaked over his shoulder, then turned back around. “Oh come on Kenobi, you're not gonna leave me hanging like that, are you?”
“You don't want to know, Rex,” Obi-Wan said assuredly.
Rex just stared at Obi-Wan, waiting for him to continue. And Cody frowned, trying to figure out a reason his boyfriend would suddenly want Cody to shave his chest.
After a few moments, Obi-Wan finally shrugged and then dropped the bag he was holding as well as peeling out of his warm coat... And then he pulled off his sweater vest and pulling up his button-up from the back of his collar.
Cody really hoped Obi-Wan wasn't about to completely strip in front of his brother.
But instead, Obi-Wan turned and showed them his now bare, freckly back.
“Is that... a friction burn?” Rex said, perplexed. “It looks like it kind of hurts.”
Cody felt his neck go hot, realizing exactly how Obi-Wan would have gotten such a burn.
Usually, during their alone time, Obi-Wan topped Cody. But lately, Cody had been really wanting to top, so they'd talked about it and Cody had ended up topping his boyfriend a few nights in a row.
When Cody topped he always liked taking his boyfriend from behind, pressing closely along Obi-Wan's back. They had been pretty close when they'd been at it, he realized, and with his coarser chest-hair, he must have given Obi-Wan a bit of a friction burn. With the multiple nights, it must have gotten worse each time.
“But you never give me a burn when you're topping,” Cody said aloud, not even thinking about his brother right beside him, who was currently staring at Obi-Wan's back.
“Fucking hell, Cody!” Rex jumped. “I so did not want to know that!”
“Oops,” Cody winced, giving his brother an uncomfortable, grimacing smile.
“You asked Rex,” Obi-Wan pulled his shirt back on, his own face red with embarrassment.
“But you could have made something, anything, up!” Rex shouted and stomped away to the front door.
“I'm sorry, Rex!” Cody chased after his brother, trying to grab him by the neck.
But Rex danced just out of reach. “You now owe me, for scaring me! According to the holy brothership rules, you owe me one-hundred times debt, Cody! You must buy me pizza every week for the next year!”
Cody sighed and rolled his eyes at Rex's dramatic outburst. “You've told me all sorts of horrible details about your sex life, back when you were living it wild as a freshman.”
“Yes, but that's different!”
“How?” Cody scowled.
“You're my older brother, you're supposed to protect me, not expose me to your sordid sex life!”
“Sordid?” Cody said with a quiet anger. “How dare you. That relationship you're shaming is with the man I love. The man I'm planning to ask to marry me--”
“Marry?” Obi-Wan asked from where he still stood in the living room, sans coat and sweater, but once again holding the plastic bag containing the razor.
“Oh shit. This is not how I pictured this happening,” Cody rubbed his eyes with his hands in frustration.
Obi-Wan sat down heavily on he sofa, a look of blank shock on his face.
“Obi. Babe,” Cody said quietly, approaching his boyfriend slowly, hands out in front of him like he was approaching a frightened, cornered animal.
He knelt down in front of Obi-Wan, first taking the bag out of his hands, and then taking the pale fingers in his own darker ones. “It's your birthday in a couple weeks. I kind of wanted to wait until then,” Cody said, studying the hands he was holding, not daring to look up into Obi-Wan's face and see rejection. “I wanted to wait until this would be more prepared,” Cody scoffed at himself, “More romantic...
“I know we've only been together for eleven months,” Cody continued. “But it feels right to me. You feel right. And I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
“You do?” Obi-Wan said in a small voice.
Cody couldn't help but look up at the palpable insecurity he could hear in his boyfriend's voice. “Yes, of course.”
The rejection he'd been expecting to see wasn't there at all. Instead, his boyfriend's eyes were wet with tears and face alight with the most beautiful smile he'd ever seen.
“I love you, Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
Obi-Wan took a sobbing breath in and closed his eyes, a tear leaked down his face. “I love you too.”
“So you'll marry me?” Cody asked, a little more confident.
“Of course, you barmy bastard,” Obi-Wan opened his eyes and grinned. “How could you not already know I'm head over heels for you? I'm kind of a sure thing at this point.”
Cody reached up and kissed his adorable boyfriend, excitement and happiness coursing through his body. He was going to marry this man!
Rex stood in the hallway, frozen, staring at the soppy tableau. “This is the worst day of my entire life.”
The couple on the couch froze and then slowly turned towards him.
“You two now owe me infinite debt! And I'm telling this awful, scarring story at your wedding.”
Cody and Obi-Wan looked at each other, then stood as one, and began to approach him slowly.
“What are you doing?” Rex looked between them with narrowed eyes.
“Why Rex, I do believe you are soon to be my brother as well,” Obi-Wan grinned wickedly.
“So?” Rex frowned, suspicious.
“I think that means we have decades of play-wrestling and tickle-fights to make up for. At least, Cody has told me all about the fights the two of you've had and continue to have.” Obi-Wan's grin widened, showing off his eye-teeth.
“What, no!” Rex backed away, suddenly very afraid.
He ran for the front door, screeching as the other two men chased after him.
What awful, horrible brothers. They'll pay for this! Rex thought sulkily to himself as the two men grabbed him and wrestled him to the ground.
