Chapter Text

Saiki has always had his powers to rely on, for everything really. From avoiding his usual daily annoyances to staying perfectly average in his exams. From getting himself out of sticky situations to ridding himself of things that would hinder the daily lives of normal humans such as colds. He had always thought that this would include inherent clumsiness as well.

Saiki would have never thought to label himself as clumsy. Not when he could hear peoples’ thoughts, where they were, and where they were going. Not when he could use telekinesis to move obstacles in his way or even his x-ray vision to see hazards out of his direct line of sight. However, his power of telepathy was significantly hindered when he puts on his Germanium ring. It was always such a hindrance, especially when he was surrounded by his erratic and unpredictable ‘friendship group’. He hated being caught off guard and being startled above most things. He was used to hearing everyone around him, within his 200-meter range anyhow, everyone except Nendo that was. He wasn’t used to people walking up behind him when he couldn’t hear them. Though he did appreciate the small reprieve he got from the peace and quiet which surrounded him.

However, a new game had been released the previous day, one which was based on one of his favourite T.V. series and, despite it being extremely popular, Saiki just had to buy and play it. Much to his chagrin, however, his mother had decided to drop his 5-year-old neighbour, Yuuta, on him so he had been unable to leave the house to purchase said game. So, in order to keep the content of the game a secret, he had had to employ his Germanium ring.

Saiki hated spoilers. The Plots of movies are shown through peoples’ thoughts or the excited spirals of those who had stayed up for hours, or even days, on end to finish the entire game in order to brag about their achievements to their friends. Kaidou came to mind in that instance. The younger boy had almost spoilt another game he had been dying to play the other month.

He hated spoilers and was determined this time to make it from his house to the store to buy the game in order to complete it before someone could have a chance to spoil it for him. He had been so determined to make it through the journey without hearing anything about the new game that he had slipped the Germanium ring on his finger without a moment’s hesitation. A sigh escapes his lips at the silence which befalls him. A few bumps and bruises, along with being startled a couple of times were nothing in comparison to completing this game without having to be subjected to spoilers and plot exposures.

Saiki sighs once again when he enjoys the silence for another moment as the cool metal settles like a weight on his finger as if reminding him that this reprieve was not a permanent thing. Not that Saiki would particularly wish it to be. He ties his shoes, makes his way down the stairs, and walks out of the house, calling a quick goodbye to his mother; his father had already left for work that morning. Saiki allows a tiny smile to tug at the corners of his lips as he walks down the streets in silence, even the animals were quiet.

It was so silent. So peaceful, that Saiki allows himself to completely relax, only having to pay just enough attention so he doesn’t walk into anyone like he had done when he had decided to test his new ring out by going to the cinema. He was so lost in the tranquillity of the day that he didn’t notice the large crowd of girls whispering in small groups as they snap rapidly on their camera phones, their attention focused solely on something, or rather someone further down the road.

Saiki decides to ignore the tittering of the females gossiping around him as he heads down the street, unknowingly walking towards the sight which had intrigued all those around him. He walks through the throngs of people, eyes partially closed as he shoves his hands deep into his pockets. So lost within his own thoughts for the first time in a while, Saiki doesn’t notice the familiar head of deep blue hair ducking out of the limousine parked along the outside of the very store he is heading towards.

The appearance of this person causes a chain of events so unpredictable, so embarrassing to an all-powerful Psychic like Saiki that he wishes for the first time in his life that his Nanana power worked on himself. Normal human drawbacks shouldn’t even occur to him, not when he still had all of his other powers, they shouldn’t have affected him as they did his counterparts and yet, somehow, he found himself the victim of the ever-present enemy, clumsiness.

The very first indication Saiki received of what was about to transpire around him was the varying screams of delight coming from the growing groups of women when they begin to catch sight of this very popular, highly recognisable idol. The screams which quickly break Saiki out of his thoughts, soon turn into shrieked words that almost shatter Saiki’s eardrums as he continues to walk past.

“Oh my gosh!”

“It’s really him!”

“Tooru Megumi!”

“I can’t believe I am actually this close to him!”

“He is a God among us!”

“He is so handsome!”

Saiki pauses, eyes widening behind his green-tinted glasses when he lifts his gaze up to meet the shocked expression of Makoto Teruhashi, the idol staring back at him in return. Probably coming up with obscure scenarios of me stalking him in order to get to Teruhashi. Saiki rolls his eyes at the thought. Though, what surprises him most at the moment is that he cannot sense any of the other’s previously held contempt for him as they gaze at each other. Saiki reaches his hands up, fingers gripping his Germanium ring in order to slip it off his finger, he had a feeling he is going to need his telepathy for this conversation. Before he has a chance to slide the ring free the screams behind him rise in volume and an unexpected force crashes into his back throwing him forward. His hand falls away from the ring.

Trying his hardest to fight his way out of the waves of shrieking fans attempting to make it Tooru Mugami, Saiki trips over his own feet causing him to stumble further into the bustling crowd. His momentary loss of balance that only results in him becoming more jostled around by the erratic fans and he feels his patience wearing thin. Desperate to break free of the violent movements, Saiki tries to think of a way to get himself free without hurting any of the screeching girls surrounding him. He once again tries to force his way out of the crowd knowing that there were way too many people around him to be able to teleport himself out of there without raising suspicion.

About to resign himself to being thrown around like a ragdoll, despite his multiple powers, for an indefinite amount of time, Saiki is startled when the crowd comes to a screeching halt. The loss of momentum and movement from behind him throws Saiki forward, past the throngs of people as he attempts to regain his balance but before he is able, he feels himself falling into a solid object.

Trying to regain his footing, Saiki stumbles only startling when a pair of warm hands wrap around his arms steadying him on his feet. Saiki glances up, eyes widening once more when he catches Makoto’s gaze. His cheeks flush a little when he realises that the solid object, he had flown into was, in fact, Teruhashi’s popular idol older brother’s chest. Warmth spreads through his frame from where the large hands are still gripping his arms. Before he can thank the older boy for catching him a low grumbling from behind him pulls Saiki from his stuttering thoughts. It seemed the reason for the sudden halt to the screaming fangirls charge was due to their path being blocked by a line of bodyguards.

“Who does he think he is, clinging to Tooru like that?”

“Stupid four-eyes thinks he is so special.”

“Why didn’t I think of that, Tooru would be hugging me instead!”

“I wonder if they know each other?”

“Are you alright, Saiki?”

Makoto’s query pulls Saiki out of his observations, smiling down at the young teenager in his arms. Though the strangely nice behaviour coming from the idol, who would normally be threatening him to stay as far away from ‘his Kokomi’ as possible, has Saiki drawing away from the warm embrace of the idol. Slipping his ring off his finger slowly, Saiki winces at the onslaught of thoughts assaulting his mind; a gesture which Makoto takes as evidence of injury from the stampede. He gestures for one of his bodyguards to bring over a bottle of water which he hands over to Saiki without a word.

“So, Saiki, what brings you all the way down here?”

I was trying to buy the game which came out yesterday.

Saiki responds honestly, he doesn’t see any reason to lie about his intentions. It wasn’t like Makoto was going to somehow link that to Teruhashi. At least he hoped he didn’t.

“Oh? The one based on that really popular T.V. series?”

‘I can’t believe that Saiki likes that series. I wonder if it has anything to do with me being the star of the show. He did go to see that one I was in at the movie theatre. No, Makoto what are you thinking. Stop thinking like this, you already have Kokomi. But there is something intriguing about this unoriginal teenager. He has never fawned over Kokomi, not when I have seen him anyhow. Nor did he fawn over me when he recognised me as Tooru Mugami.’

Saiki rolls his eyes inwardly at the thoughts coming from the idol. It wasn’t like he didn’t like Makoto, even though he was subjected to his highly inappropriate thoughts about his own sister whenever he saw him. Tooru Mugami was actually one of his favourite actors. He did feel slightly pleased that Teruhashi’s brother was finally coming to see that he wasn’t like the rest of his simple-minded classmates who would stutter out an ‘Oh Wow’ whenever Teruhashi walked past. He nods in response to the other's question.

‘This is the perfect opportunity. I can offer him a copy of the game for free as an apology for him being caught up in my fans' antics, of course.’

“How about I give you a signed copy of the game as an apology for today?”

‘Oh no, that didn’t sound sincere at all. I hope Saiki doesn’t think I am just trying to get rid of him, or worse bribe him into not talking about the incident today. He probably won’t accept it now. Maybe I should offer to take him out for something to eat after the signing? Not as a date though. No, I have my Kokomi. No matter how cute he looked in my arms, I didn’t know someone this ordinary could look so attractive to me.’

Saiki rolls his eyes at the frantic thoughts, a small smirk stretching across his lips as he meets the other’s flushed expression.

That is very thoughtful of you, thank you, Makoto.

‘Oh wow, that smile is so cute. I would do anything to get him to smile like that at me some more. I really don’t want him to leave after he gets the game though. Maybe I could invite him to do something with me after all.’

“Don’t mention it, Saiki. Anything for a fan as cute as you.”

Makoto smiles, directing a wink down at Saiki, the pair choosing to ignore the gaggle of fans frantically screaming for Tooru Mugami’s attention. Saiki’s cheeks flush faintly at the obvious flirtation.

‘Why did I say that to him? What was I thinking? I winked at him. Why did I do this? Could I possibly like this average guy more than I thought? Maybe this is the reason why Kokomi likes Saiki as much as she does. He is the only person I have met that doesn’t fawn all over me for being an actor or for being famous at all. He treats me like a normal person and doesn’t put up with my weird behaviour as everyone else does. It is rather an attractive quality now that I think about it, but I doubt he would ever believe me if I told him I liked him.’

Saiki can feel his cheeks flushing even more at the other’s thoughts. He allows another smile to form on his lips. Usually, when he finds out that someone has developed, or is developing feelings for him, he would feel uncomfortable and do everything within his power to alter their feelings for him or simply make them dislike him. Though, this time, the thought of Makoto possibly liking him in such a way doesn’t disgust him, nor does it make him feel uneasy. No, it merely brings a warmth to his chest.

Thank you, Makoto. Are you free after your signing?

‘Oh my gosh, is he asking what I think he is asking me? Please let this be true.’

“I have some free time this afternoon. What did you have in mind?”

Would you possibly like to go to a café afterward, as a thank you for the game and for helping me out earlier?

“It’s a date!”

The words fly out of his mouth before he can think about them causing a bright red blush to rise up his cheeks, spreading out across his ears as he ducks his head away from Saiki’s gaze. He really hadn’t meant to say that out loud, or with such enthusiasm.

‘No, why did I have to say that to him. He probably thinks I am such a creep now. I mean he probably thinks I still like Kokomi, but I think I never truly liked her in that way, I mean she is my little sister. I think I just wanted to stop her from leaving home and growing up so fast. I think I might be able to get over this behaviour and Kokomi if I had Saiki by my side.’

‘Well, how am I supposed to say no to that logic? Yare Yare, Mendokusai.’

It’s a date.

Saiki returns with another small smile shaping his lips as he glances up at Makoto who is grinning down at him in return. Makoto quickly signs a limited-edition version of the game for Saiki, handing it over with a slow brush of his fingers. Saiki’s cheeks flush slightly as he leans forward to place a soft kiss on Makoto’s cheek in thanks, smile widening when he sees Makoto’s phone number written on a piece of paper taped to the front of the case.

Thank you again, Makoto. I will see you in a few hours.

“See you later Saiki, text me so I have your number as well and I will message you as soon as I am finished.”

I will.

Saiki turns to leave, game clenched tightly in his hands before he turns to face Makoto once more.

And Makoto, call me Kusuo.

With that Saiki walks off down the street eyes glued to the signed game in his hands, ‘guess it is time for me to get a cell phone.’
