Aubrey hid her face in Sunny’s ruffled clothes, trying to shield her eyes from the midday sun. She held him close to her chest, spooning him and nuzzling into his shoulder.
It was nice this way. She loved Sunny and wanted to give him affection, but she was a bit slow to receive it herself, so this was the best solution. Sunny loved the feeling of someone hugging his back and Aubrey was so comfortable clinging to him, it just worked that way for them.
They were hanging out at Sunny’s house that day, not having much to do out on the hottest day of the summer and just preferring to spend time indoors. The two eventually just got comfortable in Sunny’s bed. It wasn’t big enough for the two to be in without touching, but they didn’t mind. They easily slipped into a comfortable cuddling position as if it was something they did often.
With the low sounds of the house and the slightly cloudy sky illuminating the room from the window, Aubrey felt herself slipping into a nap. It was so peaceful: the warmth from Sunny and also the actual sunlight, the comfortable as fuck bed, and the simple quiet that added to everything. Not even the bustling of Faraway was able to reach them in Sunny’s room and it was the best thing ever.
But the one thing that bested all of this, was Sunny himself.
He was like a little ray of hope, his still bandaged face barely having the power to snuff out any of the light he offered to everyone. It was so nice, so comforting, like a nice and warm heater on a cold day. Despite everything that happened, he still had hope. Even after they all found out what happened and everything that went on during those 4 years, it was still like he had hope all around him.
After all of that, she managed to get close to them again. Everyone, Kel, Hero, Basil, it felt like she had healed after everything happened. Closure, peace, something she struggled so hard to find in that damned church.
Her hands felt the soft fabric of his shirt, fidgeting with a little fold as she enjoyed this moment. With her eyes covered, she feels the gentle beating of his heart and listens to the sound. The sound is almost like a lullaby and she presses farther into his back.
Aubrey wants to be closer, her legs tangling with Sunny’s, and she smiles as she feels him recuperate the closeness. Sunny is silent as he scoots closer into her embrace, even gently holding her hand against his chest.
Her face flushes as they settle, the closeness and the warmth between them causing her own heart to beat faster. She loses her relaxation from before, suddenly too awake to slip back into a nap. But, the calm atmosphere and the steady breathing from the other helps to bring her heart beat down. Sleepiness comes back and she steadily slips into a peaceful sleep.
