Take a Break

Summary:

Sam and Ponk notice more and more every day how hard Foolish works himself so when they get a chance to get him to take a break you better bet they're going to take it.

Work Text:

Sam walked through the doorway of his shared bedroom. Ponk, the smallest of the three, was still half-asleep in bed even though it was already noon.

"Hey Ponkie," Sam sat on the bed next to him "You planning to stay in bed all day?" He joked.

"See anything else to do?" Ponk sat up "Where's Foolish? I haven't seen him all morning."

"He woke up earlier than usual this morning to work on the statue." Sam sighed "If he keeps working himself as hard as he does it'll be the death of him."

"You used to be the same way," Ponk pointed out "Used to be as stubborn too," he mumbled under his breath, loud enough for just the two to hear.

"Hey!" Sam said playfully.

Ponk snickered at this "But I do agree," he yawned "He hasn't taken a break for some time now,"

"Yeah, well I'm gonna stop by Puffy's to pick up the kids," Sam kissed the top of Ponks head and got up "I doubt it but if Foolish takes a break while I'm gone tell 'em I love him, ok?"

"Mhmm."

°°°

Sam walked down the wooden, stopping when he saw two tiny figures a ways ahead of him approaching him.

A smile appeared on his face as started moving again only faster this time.

"Sammy!" They yelled out, jumping into their stepfather's arms.

Sam lifted them with a grunt, "how's my favorite children in the whole wide, huh?"

"Good!" Fin hugged his neck.

"Guess who we got to see today!" Jr. Bounced excitingly.

"We got to see Micheal!" Finley spoiled. "Hey! I wanted to tell him!" "You snooze you lose!" The kids argued.

"Ok you two, that's enough," Puffy walked up to three.

Sam put Fin and Jr. Down. "You two go wait by the portal, ok?"

Foolish Jr. turned to Finley said, "last one there is a rotten egg!" And started running away.

"Hey! Not far!" Fin chased after him.

Sam chuckled a bit at this.

"They're adorable," Puffy said, shaking her head.

"Yeah, thanks for watching them by the way,"

"Oh please, I'm their grandpa, I'd watch them anytime. Anyways, I gotta get home."

"Right, bye puffy."

"Bye Sam."

°°°

The kids ran into the house. Immediately running up to their stepdad.

"Hey, kiddos,"

"Hey papa," "hi papa!"

"Where's dada?"

"He's out working, as always." Ponk hugged the little ones.

Sam leaned his trident against the wall and walked over to the three.

"Can we go see him?" Jr. Asked the adults.

"Of course, Jr, he is your father." Sam ruffled the young boy's hair.

The two kids immediately ran out the door to go see their father.

He hadn't taken a break since he woke up earlier that morning.

"Dada!" The little girl ran up to her father who was currently working on another statue of one of the old gods. It was hard to tell which at the moment.

"Kiddos! I thought you were staying with your grandfather this weekend." He whipped the sweat off of his forehead.

"We did," Fin tilted her head in confusion.

"It's Monday dad." Jr. Shared the same confusion as his sister.

"Oh, guess I've been working so hard I lost track of time." He laughed it off and hugged his kids.

"Hm, whatcha building? Is it another one of 'em gods?" Finley asked curiously, walking up to the tall wall of brick.

"Well, not exactly."

"Then who is it?" Foolish Jr. Stood next to his sister.

"Ever heard the story of Icarus?" Foolish leaned against the bricks.

"Uh-huh," Jr said as Fin simply shook her head no.

"Hey, you three, foods on the table," Sam yelled out walking over.

"Aww, but dad was gonna tell us a story!" Jr. Slumped over.

"Well, he can tell you as soon as he comes inside." Sam eyed Foolish "Now, go eat your dinner before it gets cold."

"Ok," "Alright, Sammy"

The kids walked away and Sam turned back to Foolish, an expecting look on his face.

"They still don't call you dad yet?" Foolish asked, not making eye contact.

"Don't," Sam said sternly, causing Foolish to jump a bit "don't change the subject, I mean. You need to come inside."

Foolish groaned, "Sam, the sun's still in the sky and still have so much work to do!"

"Foolish you need to stop working yourself do hard!"

"Yeah, your one to talk" Foolish turned his back on Sam, facing the statue, and stared at the ground.

Sam sighed, walking over to beside his taller lover. He laid his head on his arm and put his hand on the other's back.

"Look, we know how important these statues are to you, we know. But please, just come inside for tonight. You're constantly working, Ponk and I miss you and so do the kids. I can't remember the last time I woke up with both of the people I love laying with me in the bed." Sam spoke softly.

There was a quick silence.

"Ok," The taller one finally spoke, "I'll go in, I'll... Take a break."

"Good," Sam grabbed his hand and started leading him to the house. "You've got a bedtime story to tell."

Foolish laughed as he let the other lead the way.

°°°

Sam turned a bit in his bed, slowly waking up. Some extra weight had been on the bed than he was used to.

"What the, -" he was cut off by a hand over his mouth.

"Shhhh," Ponk let out, sleepily "Foosh," Ponk took his hand off of Sam's mouth and pointed at their other lover who was asleep, peacefully, in between the two.

"Oh," Sam whispered and cuddled closer to him under the covers, followed by Ponk doing the same.
