Work Text:
Violet looked up at the stars that she had once thought were pretty, now seeming to mock and laugh at her, as if saying “oh, look, we’re still here, and she isn’t.”
Violet sighed, tearing her eyes away from the sky, instead turning her gaze to the empty space before her. Echoes of laughter ringed through her ears.
“Holy shit.”
A soft chuckle, “That’s romantic.”
“I mean, holy shit .”
Violet stared at the ledge, remembering the feel of it under her hands as she’d inched closer to the girl that set her heart on fire time and time again. She remembered the warmness of her hand as she rested her own on top of it, making a silent pact.
Violet took a step toward the ledge, and another, and anoth―
“Hey, don’t do it please!” Wide-eyed, and with a flutter of hope, Violet turned; she recognised that voice.
Holding her arms and steering her away from the ledge was Clementine. Her Clementine. Violet had seen her fall―saw as she flailed and disappeared into the fog below. “H-how― . . .” Clementine moved a hand to lift Violet’s chin, making her look into her eyes. “I thought you died!” Violet broke down into sobs, burying her head in Clementine’s neck. “. . . I thought you died . . .”
“Vi . . . I’m here now, you don’t need to cry.” Violet lifted her head to look into Clementine’s warm eyes. The blonde raised a hand to her face, gently tracing her jaw. “You’re real.”
Clementine chuckled softly, tears brimming in her own eyes. “I am.”
“Clem . . . I’m so sorry.”
“You don’t have to apologise. I’m just glad I stopped you in time.” Clementine smiled faintly.
“Clem,” Violet said firmly. Clementine’s eyes flicked down to hers. “Don’t ever do that again.”
Clementine wrapped her arms around Violet, “I promise.”
