   Summary

   They went on driving into the now almost-total obscurity, the drizzling rain light but relentless. The Allegro's windshield wipers were badly worn out; what rainwater they could not clear off, they made up for with an annoying squeeing noise.

   They eventually made it to the concrete tower block beckoning squat safety. The lift was out of order, so they climbed to the sixth floor, the Earl's laboured breathing echoing in the grubby stairwell. Once there, Klaus automatically gave him precedence at the locked door; when the Earl just stared blankly at it, Klaus blinked, and took out his toolkit. Jimmying the door was not hard, even if his hands trembled ever so slightly. Fatigue, thought Klaus. It'd been a long day.
