Work Text:
Tim wakes with his arm draped over Bernard's chest, chin pressed softly into his shoulder. He smiles, humming to himself as he presses a small kiss to the skin in front of him.
"Morning," he mumbles sleepily to his boyfriend, adjusting himself so that he can lay his head on Bernard's chest comfortably. Bernard's hand comes up to gently play with his hair, and that paired with the soft thudding of his heart helps lull Tim into a vague doze.
They lay there for a while, sun seeping in through the curtains to lay mottled patterns on their skin. Tim becomes fascinated with the splay of light over where his hand meets Bernard's arm, content to just lay there for as long as possible.
The peace is broken by a sudden knocking on the front door of Tim's apartment.
"What the-" Bernard trails off, sleep still clinging to his voice.
The knocking comes again, harder this time.
"Hey Timmy, open up!" It's Dick shouting - and really what did Tim expect? Of all of his family, Dick's the most likely to be awake and functioning before midday. "I left my keys here, which means I also left my keys to everyone's place here. That's a lot of keys that I really need to keep a hold of, Tim!"
Tim groans, pressing his face into Bernard's chest. Bernard chuckles and Tim feels it reverberate through him. It's addicting, but his oldest brother is at the door and not leaving without his keys, so Tim reluctantly pushes himself up. It's made harder as Bernard's hands linger, just as unwilling to let go. He kisses Bernard once, quick but firm, and backs away.
He doesn't bother to tug on any clothes - he's wearing some loose sleep shorts and Dick is just going to have to deal with it. Throwing a cursory glance around the living area, he can't see Dick's damned keys, so he opens the door sharply, empty handed.
"I hate you."
Dick grins, pushing his way in and immediately heading for the couch.
"No you don't," he chirps, lifting up the cushions and peering under the coffee table.
"Yes, I really do."
"No," comes a voice from the bedroom doorway, "you really don't."
Bernard stands there, in a sleep shorts and - ugh - a shirt, smirking as he leans casually against the doorframe.
"Hey, Dick."
"Hey Bernard! Sorry for interrupting the one day a month Timmy lets himself be lazy, but I'm meant to pick up Lian in like, less than an hour, and Roy will kill me if I show up having lost yet another set of keys." He's still searching, ignoring Tim's glare following his every move.
"It's no problem." Tim diverts his glare to Bernard for a moment because yes, actually, it is a problem.
Dick sits back in a crouch, frowning as he scans the room.
"They have to be here. I've already searched everyone else's places-"
"You mean to tell me," Tim interrupts, "that you have harassed the entire family already this morning? Why didn't any of them put a stop to you before you got to me, I'm going to kill them all."
Dick rolls his eyes, jumping up and heading for the kitchen.
"I hope Timmy's treating you right, Bernard! He can really be an asshole sometimes."
Bernard chuckles, following Tim as he stalks after Dick.
"I learnt it from you, asshole."
Dick is opening every cupboard and drawer and Tim is losing his fucking mind .
"No, you learnt it from Jason."
Tim pauses, considering.
"Fair," he concedes, "but Jason learnt it from you."
"Aha!" Dick crows triumphantly, pulling the keys out of - how, why, when - the fridge of all places. "And yeah, you're probably right."
Bernard's looking at the keys, confused. Tim gets it - they bought groceries yesterday, how did they not notice Dick's huge set of keys in there? Dick either doesn't notice or chooses to ignore their confused (Bernard) and infuriated (Tim) looks, rushing back towards the door.
"Anyway, gotta go make sure I'm still the favourite uncle-"
"Wally's the favourite," Tim murmurs out, still half distracted by the keys.
"-so I guess I'll see you guys next week! Love you baby bird, nice seeing you Bernard, bye!"
And with that, Dick's whirlwind presence leaves with a firmly shut door. They stare at the closed door for a moment before Bernard chuckles again, walking over to Tim to wrap his arms around him from behind, resting his chin on Tim's shoulder.
"Man, I love your family."
