Work Text:
When Minho wakes up, there is light shining into the bedroom. Groaning, he untangles his limbs from the bedsheets to shield his eyes from the sun. In doing so, he manages to roll across the entirety of their huge bed and discovers that it is — unfortunately — already Hyunjin-less this morning.
Minho carefully peeks from behind his hands to look at the alarm clock on his nightstand. The display reads 10 o’clock in bright neon digits. Not that early, generally speaking, but definitely way too early for a Sunday morning. Nevertheless, there is really no use in lazing around in bed alone, when he could be spending time with Hyunjin.
Both of them have been swamped with work lately and Minho has been missing Hyunjin, despite the fact that they live together. So until both of their work schedules let up Minho will soak up every second they spend together, especially on the weekends, damnit!
Groaning once more, Minho peels himself out of bed. While he is determined to spend as much time as possible with Hyunjin, he still needs his coffee to wake up, so on bare feet he starts heading for the kitchen.
On the way there he gets distracted by the sound of running water from the bathroom. Immediately, he stops in his tracks. He was expecting Hyunjin to be in the kitchen making breakfast, maybe in the living room, curled up on the couch, drawing, but definitely not this.
Looks like a temporary change of plans for him. A shower sounds pretty fantastic. He can always get his coffee later.
Carefully, he opens the bathroom door.
Hyunjin has his back turned to the door and is currently testing the shower’s temperature.
Minho clears his throat.
"When I woke up just then I was alone," he complains by way of greeting.
Hyunjin startles and tuns around. When he sees Minho standing in the doorframe, he smiles.
"Good morning to you too, honey."
Minho grumbles, but he can’t help but break out in a smile as well.
"Good morning, baby."
Hyunjin walks over and kisses Minho on the forehead.
"I was going to crawl back in bed and bring you coffee after I was done here. You woke up earlier than I expected. Want to shower with me instead?" he offers.
"I do. That’s why I came in here, I actually kind of could use the shower."
"That’s perfect then."
Quickly, Minho takes off his boxers.
"Now give me a kiss so we can get to it and stop wasting the hot water," he says.
Hyunjin laughs and presses a kiss to his lips.
"I love you," he says, while stepping in the shower.
Minho follows him.
"I love you too."
He couldn’t fight the smile that’s on his face now, even if he tried.
Usually, Minho is quite grumpy after getting up, not in the mood for smiles or jokes yet. He’s definitely not what would be considered a morning person.
Not with Hyunjin, though. Hyunjin makes him want to be happy at any hour of the day.
Minho’s train of thought is interrupted by Hyunjin reaching for the shampoo. They’re honestly lucky their shower is pretty big, given the fact that they really like showering together. It’s not huge, of course, they’re not rich enough to afford that, but it’s at least big enough to accompany two people without it being a hazard.
Hyunjin squirts some of the shampoo onto his hands.
"Want me to wash your hair?" he asks.
Instead of answering, Minho turns around and tilts his head back. When Hyunjin starts massaging the shampoo into his scalp, he closes his eyes and sighs. He might just fall back asleep standing up right here.
The heat of the shower combined with the feeling of Hyunjin’s hands gently scratching at his head feel amazing. If Minho were a cat, he’d start purring right now.
Well, if he actually were a cat he’d probably hate the water and be trying to escape the shower more likely. But that’s not the point.
"Okay, you can rinse off now," Hyunjin says, once he deems Minho’s scalp properly cleaned.
Minho turns around and tilts his head under the stream of the shower head. When there is no more shampoo in his hair, he holds out his hand for Hyunjin to hand him the shampoo bottle.
"Your turn," he says.
They started using the same shampoo not long after they first moved in together. Specifically, Minho started using Hyunjin’s shampoo.
Hyunjin is very particular about what he uses in his hair, which makes sense, given that it is kind of long and very bleached, so he really has to look after it.
To Minho, it doesn’t really matter. He will use about anything, as long as it cleans his scalp, so he started using Hyunjin’s shampoo because it smelled like him. That was multiple years ago at this point and Hyunjin hasn’t changed his shampoo since. By now, the light fruity smell has become very familiar to Minho.
Hyunjin has gone to get his roots touched up recently, so Minho is careful as he cards his hands through Hyunjin’s hair and starts massaging the shampoo in. Hyunjin is taller than him, so Minho’s hands have to reach a bit to get the top of his head. Of course, ever the helpful fiancé, Hyunjin bends his knees to make himself smaller.
"Very funny," Minho deadpans. "I’m not even that much shorter than you."
Hyunjin chuckles. "I know honey. I’m just joking."
"I think you’ve been spending too much time with my friends. Their jokes are starting to rub off on you."
Once Minho is done, he brings his hands down.
"Okay, there you go, you can wash the shampoo out now, baby," he says.
Hyunjin complies and meanwhile Minho leans over to grab the conditioner.
That’s another thing — Minho has never really bothered with conditioner. His hair is short enough and doesn’t get a lot of damage, because he doesn’t really do anything with it.
With Hyunjin it’s a different story though, his hair would probably snap off from all the bleach without proper care.
So of course the sight of the conditioner bottle in the shower has become familiar to Minho, he’s become accustomed to massaging the conditioner into the ends of Hyunjin’s hair when they shower together. At this point he knows exactly what the right amount of conditioner is.
All these big and little things that have changed in Minho’s life since Hyunjin and him started dating, moved in together, got engaged make Minho’s heart soar every time he thinks about them. He never got the analogy about the butterflies in your stomach, always thought it was stupid, cheesy, an exaggeration — until he fell in love with Hyunjin. Suddenly it all made sense.
Once Minho deems Hyunjin’s hair thoroughly conditioned he grabs the body wash, squirting some onto Hyunjin’s as well as his own hand.
"What do you want to do today?" Hyunjin asks while they are both scrubbing themselves down.
"I don’t know. This week was so busy at work, I’m pretty tired," Minho answers.
"How about we just curl up on the couch and watch TV all day?"
"Sounds perfect."
Hyunjin steps under the spray of the shower head to wash off and starts humming a little tune — it sounds like the new ITZY song, they’ve been playing that nonstop.
Minho doesn’t try to hide the fond smile that creeps onto his face.
Hyunjin’s always been a singing in the shower kind of person. They’ve made it their little game for Minho to guess the song every time he walks by and hears Hyunjin singing, muffled by the sound of the shower.
"That’s 'LOCO'," Minho says.
Hyunjin hums in agreement. "Yes it is, you got that fast."
"I know you very well, after all."
"That’s true. You know," Hyunjin says, as he steps aside to let Minho wash the soap off his body. "I really like this shower. We’re not elbowing each other in the stomach all the time like we were in our old apartment. But when we have our own house one day I want a huge shower. Big enough that we can both fit under the shower head at the same time."
The butterflies in Minho’s stomach do a little dance. When they have their own house. Together.
"That sounds fantastic," he says.
He turns off the water and Hyunjin hands him a towel.
Once they have dried off and put on clothes, they get to brushing their teeth.
Fresh breath, Minho turns to face Hyunjin.
"Okay, now that we’re not suffering from morning breath any more, I want lots of kisses," he requests.
"Yes sir," Hyunjin says, grinning.
And then he kisses Minho.
He uses his hand to tilt up Minho’s head and presses their lips together.
"I love you," Minho says when they break apart.
"I love you too."
Before Hyunjin can lean in for another kiss, Minho yawns.
"I need coffee," he says, rubbing his eyes.
"Don’t worry, I already made some," Hyunjin says.
And if that doesn’t sound fantastic.
"Come on then Hyunjinie, what are you waiting for," he singsongs, already moving towards the door.
When he turns to look back, Hyunjin is smiling at him.
"Okay, let’s go have coffee then," he says.
