The sky bathed into the prettiest of sunsets in their hut, and Kagome was thankful for small moments. If the feudal era taught her something amidst her brash youth, it was that treasuring the small moments was far more important than the problems of the world.
At times, yes: Kagome would miss the convenience of the konbi, stocking up on her favourite ice drinks and ice creams to cool off in the summer, or the piping hot oden in the winter, and the grasp of knowledge at her fingertips…however, watching her daughter Moroha heaving back and forth in blissful sleep brought meaning to Kagome and Inuyasha’s life.
That showed that fate could bring two very different worlds together, especially as Kagome watched Moroha chasing around her new friends Kin’u and Gyukoto. She would wander sometimes if her “onii-chan” Sesshomaru would be going place to place, to protect children from harm, and if little Rin (not so little as she thought) decided to trek with Kohaku to new lands to defeat a powerful demon. But none of that mattered as she missed her husband Inuyasha.
Recently, Inuyasha and Miroku took it upon themselves to go on a trip of exorcism throughout the region, which left Kagome to watch Moroha. And lately, Moroha did the cutest thing: when she was not around causing energy pulses to Shippou, accidentally clearing his yoki or pulling Gyukoto’s hair—Moroha pointed at random objects giving the inquisitive “un….”
Kagome would explain the object plainly and its purpose; sometimes it could be as innocent as the plants in Jinenji’s garden: “Oh, this is Mizuma; this is a crunchy vegetable…good for the summer.” Or, for worse, if she pointed out a trampled shuga, from a previous visit to clear a house from evils (thankfully minor), Kagome would quickly cover up her daughter’s eyes, and simply mumble:“No, sweetie, this is a picture for the eyes of grown ups only.”
To see Moroha being curious about the world brought Kagome much joy, and she could not help but to comb her daughter’s soft hair with her fingers.
Soon, a thump came over. “Hey! Kagome…I am…” Kagome knew that face too well; his shimmering golden eyes staring in love for his wife, his silvery hair that caught the soft rays of the sun that made him like a walking god, and his smell—like the woods—felt comforting for her. She noticed that he quickly placed his Tessaiga in the corner, hoping its scabbard would protect the family from danger, along with the gifts from their recent extermination trip.
Kagome pressed a finger into her lips. “Oh…” Inuyasha grinned a little, quickly giving Kagome a chaste kiss. “Sorry…”
“Welcome back…” Before long, he saw Moroha’s nose twitching a little, recognizing her father’s smell. She woke up with a small smile, slurring a little.
“Papa…”
Quietly, Inuyasha picked Moroha up, breathing in her aroma that was uniquely hers. “Sorry, Moroha….” He had a big smile on his face, watching Moroha trying to point at the hung bodies of rabbits and peasants.
“Uhnnn.”
Inuyasha glanced at that sight; if she inherited something, it was her dad’s stomach. “These are rabbits and peasants, Moroha, as a gift of thanks from the villagers…” Inuyasha shut his eyes again, trying to recall the reasons. “It is nice when people appreciate us for what we do. Should we have stew tomorrow?”
Moroha blinked a little as she pointed to another item: this time, it was Inuyasha’s ears. Once the feature that people would use to notice that he was different, now, they were a strength. “My ears…huh?” Inuyasha allowed Moroha to touch them. “My girl… some days you will feel that no one will like you… but there are people who love you for who you are, like your mother—a goddess in my eyes—and me, your old man…”
Moroha’s eyes widened with bemusement at the sword leaning in the corner. She quickly sniffed it and she made the same oh sound. “Ah…you are looking at Tessaiga…” Inuyasha glanced at that sword nostalgically. “My gift from your grandpa…he would like your spunk, Moroha…”
“Apparently, he made this sword to protect your grandma… according to Totosai-jii-san.” If there was an improvement, it was that Inuyasha no longer called the old man Ji-ji, but was instead trying his best to be respectful to Totosai, despite his grumpiness. “It is said this sword will slay 1,000 demons at sight…a gift of love to your grandma, and a message that protecting those you love is the most beautiful gift…”
Inuyasha looked at Kagome with a soft gaze as she tried to cover the curve of her breasts with her kosode. He had a dirty thought in mind: once they could settle Moroha, they would definitely be making love by a certain well. And he saw these two as the people he needed to protect. “Someday you will find someone to protect. Guard that person with all of your heart…my girl…” Calmly, he kissed Moroha on the forehead; she was yawning from the long talks.
“I think she woke up just for you…” Kagome grinned a little, allowing Inuyasha to settle Moroha to the mat. “She is indeed your girl, Inuyasha….”
“Perhaps…”
Inuyasha calmly took off his fire rat robe and laid it gently on his daughter, preventing her from shivering in the cold.
Kagome’s eyes glanced at her husband’s body; well, he was indeed handsome in the dusk. “You know, it has been a while since we have some quiet time…” She gave a playful wink to Inuyasha, observing his inquisitive expression. “And Moro-chan is finally asleep; really, it has been ages…”
Inuyasha quickly grabbed Kagome’s hand tightly. “Let us find Kaede-baa-baa and get this over with it, huh?” Kagome smiled again, watching Moroha taking small breaths as she slept in heavenly peace. “The more you linger, the less you…you….”
However, Inuyasha gave a sheepish smile, which made Inuyasha…well…Inuyasha…
Kagome smirked back at him. “…I know….”
Both were happy with this life, after much turmoil, and they hoped that Moroha knew that she was indeed very blessed.

After the last gasp, both Inuyasha and Kagome stared at each other with love, while glimpsing the fireflies floating in the sky. Inuyasha blinked a little to see Kagome, now bare-breasted, trying to catch her breath. She giggled at Inuyasha, who was also flushed from their lovemaking. “It feels nice to be with you, my love…”
Kagome calmly nuzzled at Inuyasha’s bare shoulder, breathing in his scent.
“Yeah…that feels nice…” Inuyasha kissed her bare shoulder quietly. “Moroha is going to change the world, as she changed ours…”
“I agree….”
Both stayed in blissfulness until the stars expired. And both were thankful, that despite Moroha’s perchance for terror, their sweet daughter brought meaning and joy to their lives, and that two different worlds eventually collided into this bubbly little girl.
“All we can do is to show the path for her….”
