Work Text:

It's been three months since Geralt said he needed his help. Jaskier has gone from smuggling elves to travelling with the worst trio he has ever met. No-–that's too harsh, he has met Valdo Marx after all. But Yennefer, Geralt, and Princess Cirilla do make admirable competition for the other bard. Separately they're all... frankly they're all a force to be reckoned with even individually but they aren't nearly as annoying as they are combined.

The worst part–thus far, he doesn’t want to discount future incidents–has been running into Yennefer’s ex. Isaac–no, Iskel? Istredd? It’s probably Istredd but Jaskier resolves to just not address the man by name. A fair decision, in his own opinion, given that names are what’s caused their current predicament.

Said predicament is the two terrifying men arguing over what to call Yennefer as the witch herself stands between them looking exhausted. The argument is escalating with concerning speed. Especially since Jaskier is not a part of it, he’s quite offended by that actually, he loves a good argument.

“Yenna,” probably-Istredd insists, fingertips crackling with power.

“Yen,” Geralt argues, hand on the pommel of one of his swords.

The woman in question has her head tilted towards the sky.

Now, normally, Jaskier is certain they could just ride this out. But they’re just close enough to a pub for the raised voices to have garnered enough attention for a small, agitated crowd to form. Not that the gathering seems to be bothering the others. As the sole human of this little group, however, Jaskier is concerned enough for all of them. He’s stuck between the growing crowd and three terrifyingly powerful beings–four if one was to count Ciri, standing off to the side looking decidedly more amused than she needs to be.

What to do when stuck between a rock and a hard place? Well, if it worked well enough last time. Striding to the witch and wrapping an arm around her he declares, “my wife!”

“What,” maybe-Istredd and Geralt growl at the same time. Horrifying. They’re worse when they agree on something.

No one died. Ultimately Jaskier would consider that a success! (By gods his standards had fallen.) He had also learned that the scary ex–not Geralt the other one–was, in fact, called Istredd. So, points to him for getting that right. But they did still receive a mostly polite request that they leave town. Which was fine. If they'd stayed long enough for Yennefer's ex to find them they'd probably stayed too long.

Yennefer refused to clarify to the other two whether she and Jaskier were actually married and the bard himself had no intention of clearing that up. Geralt deserved a bit of irritation. As a treat.
