Work Text:
Vyncent wakes up before William does.
The day is hazy in his mind. It had been a lazy day - no villains to fight, no heroic duties to attend to. Tide disappeared earlier in the day as well after making a fresh pot of beef stroganoff and setting it in the fridge. A yellow sticky note taped to it that said “Going out! Be back later :) - Tide”
Dakota was out with Ashe, the two deciding early in the morning to spend the day together.
(“So… is it a date?” William asked, twirling the cord of his headphones around his finger. Dakota’s face went as red as his hair, “What?! No way!” He shakes his head and waves his hands in front of him as if trying to emphasize his point.
“Mhm,” William hums, clearly unconvinced.
“It’s true!”
“Sure thing, Dakota. Sure thing.”)
This all left William and Vyncent alone in the Prime Defenders' base.
“I’m sorry I don’t have a grand gesture to do or something,” William said at some point, the two sitting on the ghost boy's bed.
Vyncent rolled his eyes, “I prefer it quiet like this sometimes… it’s a nice break from the
chaos.”
“I guess so,” William shrugged, “I was gonna take a nap but uh… is there anything you’d like to do?”
Vyncent smiles, “A nap sounds perfect.”
He isn’t sure how long the two slept, or at what point he’d rapped a tan arm around William's waist, pulling him closer to his own body. The other hand is interlocked with William’s hand, subconsciously rubbing circles onto it. It’s a cozy feeling. It feels right. He shifts slightly, moving the arm around his waist which lets William stretch out across the bed. He moves and the golden sunlight filtering through the window hits William’s face perfectly.
Vyncent is awestruck.
He studies the pale boy’s face as if he’d never done it before. He counts brown freckles that splatter his cheeks like raindrops. He traces the scars on his face with his eyes like rivers on maps. Vyncent reaches up and rests his free hand on William's face, the natural shape of his hand resting perfectly on his cheek. William smiles in his sleep and sighs as he leans further into Vyncent’s touch, making his admiration for the boy grow even more. Vyncent's hand doesn’t move. He holds the whole universe in his hand - all the stars, moons, planets, and suns right at his fingertips. Every river, ocean, and continent is right in front of him. William is his world. His focus is drawn back to the present as William rests a hand on Vyncent’s. His eyes blink open, blurry but eventually focusing on Vyncent.
Vyncent smiles, “Hi.”
“Hi,” William’s voice is hoarse and gravelly, “How’d you sleep?”
“Just fine,” He responds, “You?”
“I think that was the best nap I’ve had in ages.”
“Really?”
“Yup,” William squeezes Vyncent’s hand.
“I’m glad,” Vyncent responds, shifting the hand resting on William’s face. He combs the boy’s black hair back. His hair is soft in between his fingers. He gives William’s hand a final squeeze as he releases himself from his grasp, making William grumble at the loss of heat. Vyncent sits up and William looks quizically at him.
“Where are you going?”
“C’mere,” Vyncent motions William to sit up. After a slight protest, he does, and Vyncent is yet again cupping William’s face in his hands. William laughs at the unexpected sensation.
“You are so pretty,” Vyncent whispers, “You know that, right?”
William hums, a smile on his face, “I do now.”
“Good,” Vyncent lets his hands drop from his face, “Don’t forget that.”
“I won’t.” he nods, he leans forward, planting a soft kiss on Vyncent’s forehead. The two fade into a comfortable silence as they lay back down on the bed facing each other.
“Were you wanting to get up? We could probably order pizza without Dakota eating it all…” he jokes, “Or tides beef stroganoff in the fridge…”
“No,” William shakes his head, “I’m staying right here with you in my arms.”
“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
“Good.”
