Chapter Text
Philip Hamilton favorite person in the world had always been his aunt Angelica. She had been the one taking him to taekwondo lessons and taking them with him. She had been his best friend and an all time ally until he turned ten. That dreaded year she moved from New York to London to marry that guy she dated. She married him and divorced some three months later, but stayed. Her best friend had died that year, leaving behind a devastated husband and a ten years old daughter. The girl who also happened to be Angelica’s goddaughter. So when he was introduced to Theodosia Prevost he decided he hated her.
They met at summer camp, she was dropped off by her second dad Aaron Burr whom his father called a 'two-faced asshole'. Back then, Philip never got why the girl lived in England with her 'father' when Aaron Burr in New York was also her father. He got the whole story later on thanks to a scathing article on 'Aaron Burr shitty way of leading his life'. His daughter living in another country used as proof he would not make a good vice-president. Which was all bullshit, Philip quite liked Aaron Burr, but he hated his daughter.
Anyway, when he met Theodosia Prevost, she was actually not that mean of a kid, but he had decided he hated her, so he hated her. And sure, telling her her father did not want her that was why she was dropped off to camp was not a good way to introduce yourself. However, what Philip did not expect was for the girl to hold enough sass in her to make his father silent. Because she did tell Alexander Hamilton, to 'shut up for once, because they were children and nobody gave a damn about wine taxation'. At ELEVE?. It made Philip hate her even more after camp when his father actually gushed about her with Angelica.
But going back to his first meeting with Theodosia it went something like : "I see that neither of your fathers want you… that’s why they dropped you at a camp the whole summer." He had said, trying to sound mature and as much of an asshole as he could. She had given him a blank stare before replying : "Well, it seems that your parents don’t like you either, because you are here too." Philip had been about to answer but she had walked to another girl she knew, ignoring hm.
Summer camp went on with Philip antagonizing his mortal enemy which did not seem to care about him. She beat him at tree climbing, and her team’s wooden cabane had been cozier than his. She lost at smores making and even burned her cheek with the wooden stick. But, unlike other kids that cried when they burned themselves, she had cheered and yelled ‘cool, a battle scar !’
Three weeks in, everything changed: Philip had been taunting her and was making fun of her for not wanting to swim in the lake. She had stayed far away from the lake until he (and three of his friends) had grabbed her, walked to the bridge and thrown her into the lake. That time while they dragged her, she had been screaming, asking for help even begged to be saved. At eleven, Philip had not given a damn about her cries and had thrown her in the water. She had screamed to whole time, their camp advisor running to them but it was too late. Theodosia ended up in the lake. She swam to the edge and Philip was about to taunt her when she punched him straight in the face. And Philip, ten years later, could tell you something Theodosia Prevost could pack a mean punch. She had punched him in the face and as he fell on his ass, pummeled him until she was physically taken off from him. She was taken off from camp, Aaron Burr taking her back home.
Later Philip learned that Theodosia used to go to the lake with her mother before her death and hated swimming since. He would have apologized if he knew, but five years later it felt too late. Philip Hamilton did not like Theodosia Prevost the slightest, and he wanted to take his revenge on her for the punch. So, when he got back home, he announced to his mother he was going to marry her so he could make her life miserable. His mother had been perplexed, but his father, his one true ally, had taken him shopping for a ring to give to her next year at camp. He had chosen the ugliest ring he could find, the ring was made of stone beads, all differently colored. The ugliest ring he had ever seen.
The next year, he had a plan : he would make her fall for him, marry her and make her life miserable. He was ready, the ring in his pocket in a pretty box. However Theodosia never showed up. From what he heard, she was at a camp for gifted kids in France.
It took nine years for him to meet Theodosia again.
