Work Text:
Danny sits on the window sill leading out to the empty city street. The cold city wind swept through the neighborhood. Danny breathes, inhale, exhale, inhale. His eyes stuck shut, letting the cold air flow through his body.
It’s silent, too silent. Danny was used to this though, it was peaceful, quiet. He had taken a break from that whole ‘SuperHero’ thing despite his best efforts to keep going at it. He was sick, and Mr. Fury would never let an ill hero out on the job. Though he had been feeling much better, Danny decided to stay a bit longer. In all honesty, he quite enjoyed the peacefulness of this isolation. Of course, he still saw the others in the small times he went to school since he started being less ill.
Still, the loneliness was getting to him, and he couldn’t wait to return to S.H.I.E.L.D in two days. In the fogginess of his thoughts, Danny almost did not hear the rustling noise coming from his roof.
Danny opens his eyes, looking down at the asphalt street. The rustling sound continued. Quickly, Danny reached out the window, climbing out onto the roof. It took him a moment to piece together the shapes he was seeing.
There stood the one and only, Spider-Man. To any normal citizen, this would’ve been impressive or mind-blowing, but to Danny, this was ordinary.
“Peter?” Danny says, still trying to figure out exactly what was going on. Danny steps closer to Peter.
“Danny!” Peter says in his joyous tone. He quickly steps closer to Danny, putting his arms out.
Danny smiles, stepping closer to Peter and taking him in an embrace. Danny could feel Peter’s breathing, and most importantly, his heartbeat. It beat faster than usual, yet his breathing was calm and steady.
Peter was the first to release Danny from the hug, “It’s nice to see you friend.” Danny says, taking a moment to look at Peter in his spider-costume. “You didn’t have to come see me in this silly costume too.”
Peters laughs, taking a small jab at Danny’s shoulder. “Don’t be mistaken Danny, Spiderman's costume is way cooler than Iron Fist’s green spandex.”
Danny smiles, Peter was right. Iron Fist’s costume was lame. Peter sighs, “Truth is,” he starts, taking his mask off. His face is covered in small and thick cuts, Danny would’ve never been able to tell from the outside. There was no wear or tear in his mask. Danny gasped, reaching his hand out and placing it on the side of Peter’s face.
Honestly, Peter himself was stunning, at least to Danny he was. His eyes were gentle and soft and shined that light blue Danny loved. His hair’s soft and perfectly framed his face in a way that made him look more handsome. Danny brushed his finger over one of the cuts, it was not as deep or harsh as the other. The cuts themselves already stopped bleeding but some were still open and pounding.
Peter’s heart continued to beat increasingly fast, he was nervous with Danny so close to his face. Danny was perfect. It was almost like he was created by the hand of God himself. He was fitted, and even though he was still slightly sick he managed to look completely perfect. His hair was a beautiful shade of gold and dripped down to the top of his shoulders. His eyes shine like emeralds. He has no scratches, no visible sign of wear or damage. His skin is soft and smooth and Peter couldn’t help but want to kiss it.
“Come inside, I will help you.” Danny says, letting go of Peter's face and walking closer to the edge of the roof. He slowly climbs down and goes back into his bedroom landing on his bed. He sits and waits for Peter.
Peter fumbled with his thoughts, he didn’t think Danny would actually let him inside his home. Which, maybe he should’ve seen it coming speaking from the fact they are friends. Peter puts his own hand on his face, feeling the spots Danny last touched. He smiles then follows Danny inside his room, landing next to Danny on the bed. Danny laughs as Peter lands on his face through the window.
“You know, for the all-mighty ultimate wall climber I thought you’d be better than that.” He laughs. Peter scoffs, rolling around to sit back up.
“I didn’t know your window was so far down.” Peter says, lifting himself out of Danny’s bed.
Danny smiles, “Quickly, let’s go to the bathroom that's where medkit is…” Danny grabs Peter by the wrist, pulling him along with him. They shuffle through Danny’s door and into the hallway. The hallway’s walls are covered in light blue floral wallpaper. Pictures of Danny and his family hang on the walls. The bathroom door is the only door open on the floor, a warm light dims from inside the room making it noticeable.
Danny walks through the door, Peter pulls behind him. Flicking on the light, Peter is flashed by the bright shining light. Inside the bathroom, the walls are warm, covered in hues of orange and yellow.
“Sit down-” Danny says, right as Peter gets the idea to sit on the toilet seat. He sits and waits patiently. Danny digs through his cabinet until he finds the bottle of hydrogen peroxide. He pulls it out alongside a bag of cotton balls.
Peter sits on the seat, waiting and watching Danny. Danny approaches Peter, crouching down once more in front of him. Danny pours a small amount of hydrogen peroxide on the cotton ball.
“This’ll sting, but I’m sure it’ll feel like nothing to you,” Danny says with a gentle smile. He dabs the swab against one of Peter’s wounds.
Peter flinches, it sure stung like a bitch. Danny continued to dab at the spots, each time Peter had to make a sound. Danny chose to ignore it, he couldn’t stand to hear his close friend in pain. Danny stopped to look at Peter for a moment, he totally forgot about the bandaids.
“Give me a second,” Danny says, standing up and walking back towards the cabinet. Peter sat, once again watching Danny dig through the cabinet. Honestly, it was quite strange. Danny was always this attentive and caring, but he didn’t know he would be so gentle towards him in particular. He’s seen it with Sam who often got himself injured, and with Ava who always got cut up in between fights. Peter never really looked out for help like the others did. For sure, he was a solo act.
He didn't need assistance from someone, he didn't need help. He was fine by himself… he is fine by himself. Honestly, he didn’t even come to see Danny for this purpose. He didn’t expect him to help him like this. He just came because Mr. Fury told him to check up on Danny. Why him? Peter didn’t know.
Peter didn’t know a lot of things, he didn’t know why cat's meow and dogs bark, he didn’t know how the city streets of New York were so dirty, and he didn't know why he felt so nervous when Danny was close to him. Back on the roof, Peter didn’t know why he took his mask off. He could’ve just seen Danny, then left, but he took the initiative to show him. Why? Peter. Did. Not. Know.
In the time Peter was spacing out in his own thoughts. Danny is already back holding a medical kit filled with different types of bandages and gauzes. Danny grabs a gauze, putting it up to Peter’s face then cutting it to fit one of the more bigger cuts on his face. Danny places and tapes it onto his face. Then the rest of the cuts are covered in normal standard bandaids.
During this procedure, Peter couldn’t stop looking at Danny. He really was something else. He was so focused and gentle on Peter’s cuts, something Peter frankly has never experienced. As a kid, when Peter got injured he was insistent to Aunt May and Uncle Ben that he never needed help.
He was independent, strong, and awesome— oh?
Danny stopped, once again resting his hand on Peter’s face. He strums against Peter’s cheek with his thumb.
“You have a lot more scars than I thought.” Danny says, trailing his finger down the side of Peter’s face, tracking a larger scar that stretched from the tip of Peter’s eye to the corner of his mouth. Danny stopped his finger at Peter’s lip.
Peter looked at Danny, something about the way Danny was so close to him incited Peter. He reached out, placing his own hand on the side of Danny’s face.
“Peter, what are you-” And in that moment, Peter leaned in, kissing Danny. Danny did not fight the kiss, instead leaning into it himself. They both stood up, deepening the kiss. Danny let go of Peter’s face, instead dropping his arms to stretch around Peter’s neck. Danny stepped back, and so did Peter. Danny’s body bumped into the porcelain sink, his arms still wrapped around Peter’s neck. Peter let go of Danny’s face, instead wrapping his arms around Danny’s waist, and resting his hands on the sink they were pressed against. Their bodies pressed against each other. Danny could feel Peter’s heartbeat against his.
Peter’s heartbeat fast, he was nervous… scared. He didn’t know why he did this, or why he even took the first move. He dived in face first to something once again, and this time he didn’t regret it.
Danny released himself from the kiss, taking a moment just to look at Peter.
“Why did you do that?” Danny asked, “I mean, I didn’t not like it.. I just don’t understand.”
“I don’t understand either.”
“Do you like me?”
“I’m not sure.”
Danny blankly stared at Peter. “What?” he asked. “What do you mean?”
“What I mean is, I don’t know if I like you.” Peter said ashamedly, “It was like, a spur of the moment thing… I guess.”
“So you don’t like me?” Danny said, stepping away from Peter, resting his body against the shut bathroom door. He crossed his arms, staring Peter down.
“No it’s not like that.. Because I do like you Danny. I really do. I just don't get it..” Peter said. He put his palms in his face, rubbing at his face. He could feel the bandages and gauzes placed by Danny.
“You know Peter, different flowers match different eyes.” Danny says, stepping closer to Peter.
Peter lets go of his face, raising one of his eyebrows at Danny. “What is that meant to mean?”
“It means I like you. I really like you.” Danny said, “It’s… strange. I can’t piece together why I like you but I can’t not like you.” Danny grabs onto Peter’s arm which now stood at his side.
Peter couldn’t stand to look at Danny, he looked down at Danny’s hand. Danny’s own hand was covered in scars and bruises. Peter didn’t notice this before. Maybe he was caught up to much in Danny’s face.
To be fair, Danny’s face had no scars, bruises or any sort of damages, but his hands. Danny tightened his grip.
“Peter, please tell me you feel the same.” he says. After a moment of silence, Danny lets Peter go. He turns around and opens the bathroom door before stepping out. He then shuts the door on Peter.
Peter stands, staring at the bathroom door inside Danny’s house. He felt like a fool. He turns back around to face himself in the mirror. Danny’s mirror had an elaborate frame. It looked like lace made out of metal, flowers and even small molded butterflies covered the mirror. At the top of the mirror was a heart.
Peter reaches his hand out to touch the mirror. He thought for a moment. He liked Danny. He really loved Danny. Not only as a friend, but he wished they were something more, and he probably just ruined that opportunity. Peter took a deep sigh. Time to jump into something head first with no plan once more.
Peter opened the door, stepping out into the hallway. He looks around for a moment before seeing Danny’s door shut at the end of the hallway. He rests his hand against the door before taking a small knock on the door.
Danny was waiting for Peter on the other side of the door, he knew he’d come. He turns around unlocking the door and letting Peter in.
They stand there awkwardly in Danny’s room for a few seconds.
“I like you.” Peter says.
“Are you sure?”
“I’m sure.”
“How sure?”
“100 percent.”
Danny crosses his arms.
“110 percent.”
Danny smiles, opening his arms out, then taking Peter in a hug, this time filled with more love then the last. Peter’s eyes widened. Honestly, he didn’t expect Danny to respect like this. Speaking that a few minutes ago he did just turn him down, and a few minutes before that they kissed… quite intimately. Peter wraps his arms around Danny, stuffing his face into Danny’s shoulder. This time, Peter could feel Danny’s heart beating. It beat fast, he was nervous, scared almost.
Peter starts stepping backwards, while still holding onto Danny.
“What are you- woah!” Danny and Peter both fall onto Danny’s bed. Peter pinning Danny down, holding his hands tightly. Danny smiles while looking up at Peter. Once again the two boys lean into each other, their lips meeting on a soft kiss.
