Ladybug stood on a rooftop assessing the latest akumatized victim. From what she could gather from a safe distance, it seemed to be yet another person who’d been upset by the morning rush traffic. Vowing to crush anything that got in their way, the akuma — a giant red, yellow, and green creature — proceeded to stomp on everything in their way.
Ladybug sighed, massaging her temples. Was Shadow Moth starting to get desperate? Probably. (The answer was yes. He was getting desperate.)
“Hey, bugaboo!” Chat Noir singsonged as he landed beside her.
In spite of her, a smile appeared on Ladybug’s face. “Hey, Kitty.” Chat Noir was grinning widely, as though he had planned something mischievous. Alarms rang in her mind as she wondered what sort of horrible pun he was planning to make based on the akuma. To her surprise, he simply asked a question.
“Do you know what today is?” He was grinning even wider.
Her mind stumbled over an imaginary calendar. Was it some sort of holiday? A birthday? An anniversary? What day of the week was it? Before she could guess, Chat Noir answered for her.
“It’s two’s day!” He spread his arms wide and wiggled his hands as though he was saying “ta-da!”
Meanwhile, Ladybug was confused. So, it was Tuesday? She frowned, “Ok… what’s so special about Tuesday?”
“No, not Tuesday, two’s day,” Chat emphasized. “Ya know, because it’s February 22nd, 2022?”
The gears in her head were slowly starting to work until it clicked. “Oooohhhh,” she nodded. “I get it now.” It was a pun on the date. Which meant she was right about him making a horrible pun.
In the distance, something crashed and people screamed. “Uh, I guess we should go,” Chat Noir said, scratching his neck with a weak smile.
Ladybug blinked, realizing he must’ve been disappointed in her reaction. Internally groaning as she thought through the list of jokes her dad had made in previous years, she picked one to cheer her partner up. “Yeah, we better go before the akuma drives everyone crazy.”
Chat Noir blinked, then laughed. “Did you just pun, m’lady?”
She shrugged with a smile and flicked his bell, “Maybe I did.” Ladybug delighted in the blush the spread under his mask. “Now, let’s go!” As Ladybug swung toward the akuma, Chat Noir vaulting from rooftop to rooftop behind her, she grinned. She was always happy to cheer her partner up, just like she always did for her.
