Yeah, no.

Summary:

He’s absolutely fuming. His husband looks extremely uncomfortable, nearly grimacing, as a woman laughs shrilly waving a hand about in the air. It seems like every second that goes by she manages to get closer and closer. Rapidly closing the space between the two of them.

Work Text:

George flips on his blinker, checking over his shoulder as he switches lanes. His hands grip the steering wheel fairly light as he taps it with his index finger.

He really hopes Dream checked his phone so there’s no mix up but knowing his husband he’s not fully confident. It’s like the goofball forgets he even has the thing. How he fails to live like that is beyond George. If he didn’t check his messages nothing would get done.

The original plan was to have Dream leave early from work to pick up Tommy due to George having a meeting scheduled during the usual pick up time for kindergarten. However the meeting ended up getting moved to another date entirely.

A frown twitches at George’s lip as he flips down the car visor to keep the sun out of his eyes. It’s an ever growing problem that he really should bring up to his boss at this point. His kid comes over his company.

“George are you even listening to me?”

George jolts as the voice echoes filtering through the car. Right, he completely forgot he’s on the phone with Sapnap.

George smiles sheepishly, “Uh, yeah.”

George can picture Sapnap crossing his arms grumpily, “Liar.”

A small graces George’s lips in amusement as Sapnap plows through his slight irritation much more focused on the topic they had been discussing, “So like I said, when’s the little man’s party?”

George sighs to himself. Honestly Tommy’s birthday party is the last thing on his mind today between the chaos of the week as a whole. Not to mention his birthday is like, “Sap, his birthday is an entire month away.”

Sapnap tsks over the line, “I will not have you ruining my nephew’s birthday by being lazy Georgie.”

George rolls his eyes as he comes to a stop at a red light, “Don’t be such a drama queen Sap. I have a general plan.”

“Oh?”

Well he does. For the most part, “I’ll invite the group and Tommy’s friends.”

Sapnap perks up, “I get to meet the menace Dream goes on about?”

A fond irritation swirls to life in George’s chest. The kid has been growing on Dream lately but Dream occasionally still complains about the bomb tea parties, “For the last time Tubbo’s not a menace. He’s,” George waves a hand in the air, “rambunctious.”

Sapnap laughs over the phone, “Still can’t wait.”

George hums as he makes a turn almost at the school, “I’m more interested to see how it goes between him and Ranboo. They’ve yet to meet.”

Sapnap ponders the premise, “You think it’s a good idea for the first time to be at the party?”

This has been something George has been considering. It might be overwhelming between the group, cough Quackity, and the introduction to a new person for Ranboo overall. The kid’s on the quiet side, “Actually I’ve been thinking of inviting them over before hand.”

Sapnap hums over the line as George finally pulls into the school parking lot, “Yeah I’d second that.”

George laughs lowly to himself, “I appreciate the oh so wise wisdom.”

Sapnap’s tone is entirely indignant, “Hey! You know I am absolutely invaluable.”

George smiles fondly as warmth spreads in his chest. It’s true. They’ve been friends for ages. Sapnap is essentially family at this point. Tommy absolutely adores him, giving him the honorary title, ‘Unc Sap’. George is pretty sure he can pronounce the word uncle at this point but Unc just kind of stuck.

“Yeah yeah, don’t let it go to your head.”

Sapnap huffs, “Whatever pipsqueak.”

George rolls his eyes as he pulls into a parking space doing his absolute best to be in between the lines. He hates parking, “We’re literally the same height. If anything I’ve got like a good two inches on you.”

Sapnap won’t have it, “George baby, you are simply hundred percent incorrect.”

George twists his key hearing the motor to the car go silent, “You will not gaslight me into this.”

Sapnap gasps dramatically over the line as it transfers over from the car’s speakers to George’s phone, “I cannot believe you’d accuse me of such a thing.”

George shuts the door to his car and pushes the button on his key fob effectively locking the car. He starts to walk through the parking lot only to be met with. He groans.

“What’s wrong?”

George would have hope it was someone else’s if not for the license plate being a dead give away, “Just some miscommunication.”

Well, it’s not the end of the world. It just means he gets to see his family a little earlier than intended. And Dream took off early for no reason. Ugh. His boss isn’t exactly flexible with these type of things so it’s not ideal.

Sapnap says something but George doesn’t hear the words. They’re muffled. Unimportant. Meaningless compared to the scene playing out in George’s vision.

George’s previous easy going smile twists into a deep frown bordering on a gradual scowl, “I’ll call you back Sap.” Without warning George hangs up and with more force than necessary shoves his phone into his pocket.

He’s absolutely fuming. On the steps outside of the school stands his husband holding his child’s hand. His husband looking extremely uncomfortable, nearly grimacing, as a woman laughs shrilly waving a hand about in the air. It seems like every second that goes by she manages to get closer and closer. Rapidly closing the space between the two of them. Dream stands somewhat frozen looking like he wants to be anywhere but there.

It’s when she reaches forward to place a hand on Dream’s bicep that George absolutely loses his shit.

George walks forward faster than he ever has. Storming with a vengeance towards them. His feet slam so hard against the concrete a slapping noise emits. By a passerby glance it appears painful but George is way passed caring.

As he turns sharply to march his way up the stairs, face a deep angry scarlet red with steam practically bursting from his ears in the imitation of an angered bull, George makes his way to the utter audacity of the damn bitch trying to feel up his husband.

At the noise, Tommy who had been frowning while not completely understanding the situation but still feeling upset since his Daddy seems upset, turns around. Eyes beaming as they land on his Papa. He manages to squirm out of Dream’s grip, scampering down the remainder of the stairs as he bursts forward making a beeline for George.

It isn’t lost on George how Dream turns around, catching George’s eyes, with a notable immediate relief flowing through his body.

In that moment George’s anger is put on hold as he leans down so Tommy can run into his arms for a strong hug. George kisses the top of his head as he pulls him up so he sits at his hip happily. Normally George discourages picking up Tommy these days as he’s growing up to be a big boy but honestly if his hands aren’t occupied he might end up slapping the woman across the face.

George’s strides are confident, purposeful. He finally catches the woman’s gaze. A flash of uncertainty flickers through her eyes as she takes in George’s sickening sweet smile as he approaches Dream. She falters, hand falling away from where it had been resting unwelcome on Dream’s arm.

She’s lucky Dream is too nice to openly shove her off. George knows Dream isn’t used to dealing with these kind of things but George is. And he’s down right pissed.

He doesn’t blame Dream in the slightest for freezing. How can he when his husband looked like he was going to turn green?

Dream’s voice is breathless as George approaches, “Georgie.”

It gets a genuine smile out of George. He’s happy to come to the rescue.

He completely ignores the woman as he tugs Dream’s collar. Dream’s eyes widen as George pulls him in for a passionate kiss staking his claim. This should get the message through pretty clear.

George doesn’t let it go on too long knowing Tommy is bound to get frustrated by the scene but that doesn’t stop him from melting against Dream.

Once he pulls away Dream is breathing heavily, face flushed as he stares at George dazed. Having been transported in a world solely reserved for him and George.

George slips a possessive hand around Dream’s waist ushering him closer against his body. Interestingly enough Tommy stays silent most likely sensing his Papa’s wrath.

George’s smile could make even the strongest fall to their knees. It’s sickening. Promising brutality should anyone dare to go against it. To go against him. George’s voice mirrors the smile, sickeningly sweet, “Who’s this darling?”

The woman, who George notices has a loose hold on her kid, opens her mouth to introduce herself.

Too bad Dream doesn’t give her the chance. He finds a newfound confidence with George by his side, “No one.”

The woman’s jaw drops. But apparently she’s dumber than she looks. Her jaw closes, tightening, “I’m Sam,” she looks George up and down with disgust, “and you are?”

George hums as his eyes float to the child holding her hand, “Someone that thinks you should really be paying more attention to your kid than my husband.” George adjusts Tommy to make a point, shaking his head, “I mean honestly. It’s a parking lot for God’s sake.”

She’s absolutely aghast. Tension lines her form as her mouth morphs into a deep anger filled frown, “That’s none of your business.”

George shrugs nonchalantly, leaning against Dream, “Listen bitch, if you ever bother my husband again, ever touch him again, I’m reporting you.”

She reels back as if slapped. Something George would definitely do if there weren’t children in their presence.

Dream smiles good naturedly as the woman stares at the pair unsure how to proceed, “Well I think we should be going.”

George smirks, feeling triumphant as Dream’s hand finds his own, the two of them leaving the woman to fester in her pool of anger as they leave.

For the first time in a while Tommy speaks up, “Papa?”

George hums, an ease washing over him as the ordeal is finally over. Tommy whispers against him, “You said a bad word.”

George blinks coming to a full stop, pulling Dream along with him who attempts and fails to choke back his wheezing laughter. He…he guesses he did. He totally called that woman a bitch.

George’s scowl returns. Well she is.

He closes his eyes, shaking off the lingering agitation to focus on Tommy, “You are so right baby. I’m sorry.”

Tommy breaks out into a smile, “S’ okay.”

Dream ruffles Tommy’s hair with his freehand, “Just don’t repeat it, okay?”

Tommy nods dutifully taking the words very seriously. It makes George hug Tommy tighter against him. What did they do to deserve this absolute angel?

Well, a smile twitches at George’s lips, most of the time.

Dream’s voice is somewhat quiet as George approaches his car, pulling out his keys to unlock it, “Would you really report her?”

George raises his gaze, tilting his head up to meet Dream’s eyes. He frowns at his husband’s hesitance, “Of course Dreamy. She was harassing you.”

Dream sighs as if taking in the gravity of the ordeal for the first time, “I guess she was.”

George frowns as he pauses putting Tommy in his car seat, “Are you okay honey?”

Dream raises his gaze to find George’s. A genuine smiling gracing his lips as comfort envelopes him, “With you by my side? Always.”

A grin grows on Dream’s face, “My little savior.”

Dream’s grin only grows as a thought races through his mind. He won’t say it in front of Tommy but damn that was hot. Jealous, angry George is something he could get used to.

A smile twitches at George’s face, “Anytime.”

Truly, anytime. George is more than ready to come to his husband’s side. To fight anyone and everyone that makes him uncomfortable. George won’t stand for it. Won’t stand to see such a scene play out. He loves Dream with everything that he is. Will protect him no matter what arises. Will always protect his family.

George buckles Tommy up, tugging on the straps making sure they’re secure. Once positive, he turns around, a smile playing at his lips as he has the urge to pull Dream into another kiss, “I’ll see you at home?”

They did in fact accidentally mix up pickup. As if reading George’s thoughts Dream leans down to place a gentle kiss on George’s lips, “Drive safe love.”

George wishes he could pull Dream back down but hey, there’s always time for that at home, “You too.”

With a last squeeze to Dream’s waist, Dream slips away heading to his car. Looking forward to cuddling with George on the couch and watching Tommy play with his toys on the carpet. At peace once again.
