Work Text:
explosion upon explosion reverberated from miles away. the earth that they called home was shattering under the harsh scrutiny of bombs made by the humans that were supposed to cherish it. but in the end, does it truly matter? once the main show starts, and the opening act fades, none of the population will be left.
but who needed to worry about those thoughts? surely not the seemingly peaceful couple, adorned in their finest clothes, sitting on beach chairs, ocean breeze mussing their hair, drinking expensive champagne. there was no reason to make a fuss over their impending doom. there was nothing they could do to stop it. why should they spend their last hours breaking down and panicking over what could have been, when they have the present to make theirs?
many bottles had been emptied as they waited, and yet they still had plenty more to go through. the brighter of the couple stared lovingly out into the horizon. the glowing haze that their final sunset flashed on his face, making him look angelic. his silver hair refracted the light, giving him a sort of halo.
his partner, a stoic man, stared at him. he seemed rude and uncaring, but deep in his eyes shone an unwithering adoration for the man next to him. if minsoo got to spend their finally waking hours on this earth staring at the sunset, then dongho is definitely allowed to stare at his own sun.
but then minsoo stood, albeit wobbly. the many glasses of expensive champagne, that is far to pricy for them to drink in their normal lives, had taken an effect on his motor skills. he got three steps towards the water when he fell, producing a fit of giggles from himself. his stoic partner gave a curt, but fond smile. minsoo’s giggling ceased during dongho’s observing, but the dongho couldn’t be bothered to care. if the government has the audacity to end life as they know it, then dongho sure as hell gets a free pass to appreciate his husband in the last hour he has.
but they didn’t get an hour. not even a minute. the button, that was scheduled to be pushed at nightfall, had been hit. their fate decided for them.
so dongho let go of his dignity and crawled through the sand in his once pristine suit. he swept his lover’s face into his hands. and he kissed him.
