Work Text:
It’s been raining all day long but as the night comes, the storm only gets stronger. It’s a torrential downpour outside, forcing everyone to stay indoors and ignore it until it passes. Not Yoongi, though. He’s been watching the rain hit the pavement from his bedroom window, following raindrops as they cascade down the glass in front of him. Seokjin, his boyfriend, only gave him one strange look before returning to his own activities.
It’s not out of character for Yoongi to be so fascinated by something as simple as the rain. He’s fascinated by the entire world and everyone in it. It’s what makes him who he is. And, it’s what made Seokjin fall in love with him. He was skeptical at first, thinking nobody could have such an optimistic outlook on life but Yoongi proved him wrong.
Even when Seokjin thought there was no way they could be soulmates, as Yoongi puts it, the younger never gave up hope. He stuck to what he believed and in the end, it all worked in his favor. Seokjin isn’t one to label his relationship with Yoongi as the two being 'soulmates' but he does know that he never wants to let go of the boy. They’re a pair forever. Nothing will ever change that.
Seokjin has been sitting on the bed, scrolling through his phone as Yoongi watches the rain from the window. All of a sudden, the boy springs up, catching the elder’s attention. “I’ll be right back.”
“Where are you going?”
“Outside.”
Seokjin sits up, eyebrows furrowed. The storm is only getting worse. It’s not supposed to lighten up anytime soon, either. “Yoongi, it’s raining. And, it’s not just a small spring shower that’ll end in a few minutes. It’s a thunderstorm.”
“I know.”
“So, why do you want to go outside?”
Yoongi stands at the end of his bed, looking back at his boyfriend. “Have you never wanted to lay out in the rain? Maybe dance around a bit? Let the rain fall on your skin and just feel what it’s like to be truly alive?”
“I can honestly say that I haven’t.”
“Maybe you should.”
He doesn’t allow Seokjin another word before exiting the bedroom. He walks straight for his front door, hearing his boyfriend racing after him to try and stop him. There’s a reason almost everyone is staying indoors right now. For one, it’s getting late, and two, the storm is loud and booming. Anyone in their right mind would stay inside until it blows over. Not Yoongi, though.
When Seokjin catches up to him, he’s already putting on his shoes, a pair of sandals that he doesn’t mind getting wet. He doesn’t even bother to put on a rain jacket. It looks as if he’s completely content in going outside in his short sleeve shirt and sweatpants. As if the storm itself wasn’t bad enough, it’s also freezing outside.
“Yoongi, you’re going to catch a cold if you go outside wearing that.”
“It’ll be worth it, I think,” he says with a bright smile.
Seokjin sighs, “come on, I don’t want you to get trapped in the storm. You’re just going to be wet and cold.”
“Then, I’ll take a very warm bath after and I can cuddle with you all night long to stay extra cozy.”
“What if I object to cuddling?”
“You won’t.”
“And, how do you know that?”
Yoongi grins, “well, soulmates don’t object to cuddling. Plus, you love me too much to say no.”
Unfortunately for Seokjin, Yoongi is beyond correct. He could never say no to Yoongi. He could try but it would never end well for him. Either Yoongi would begin to pout, which is absolutely adorable but also Seokjin’s least favorite thing. Or, he’d feel bad on his own for saying no to the boy, with or without a pout. Seokjin loves Yoongi far too much to ever not give him what he wants, what will make him happy.
He shakes his head with a small laugh. “You’re really not going to change your mind on this, are you?”
“You can always join me if you want?”
“I think I prefer the warmth of the inside.”
“Suit yourself,” he says, shrugging his shoulders.
Yoongi turns to open his front door, exiting the apartment unit. He walks down the long corridor, coming face-to-face with the glass door that leads to outside. The rain has picked up even more, wind blowing it from side to side. He’s committed to this. There’s no turning back now. If he did, Seokjin would only make fun of him for chickening out. He’d be joking, of course, but Yoongi still doesn’t want to listen to it. He’s determined and he’s not going to turn away from the thing he really wants.
When he opens the door, he’s immediately hit with the cold wind and a mist of rain water. He takes a deep breath, preparing himself for the worst before stepping out into the storm. He purposely positions himself in front of his bedroom window, knowing that it’s exactly where Seokjin will be to keep an eye on him. And, he’s entirely right.
Seokjin already has the blinds pulled up, watching as his carefree boyfriend spins around in the rain. He jumps in every puddle there is, almost like a little kid who has never experienced something like it before. Yoongi has the brightest smile on his face, one that could probably be seen from miles away. The only light shining on him is the few lights that the apartment complex has up around the building.
Yoongi lays down on the sidewalk, arms and legs spread wide as the rain falls down on top of him. For a moment, he’s reminded of how he used to act when he first started talking to Seokjin. He’d do this so often, laying on his floor and acting incredibly dramatic, thinking his world was going to end if the elder didn’t like him back. Which, to be fair, the world definitely might’ve ended if Seokjin didn’t like him back.
His clothes are already soaked, hair sticking to his forehead. He’s still so happy, though. This is all he wanted. Right now, he feels more alive than ever before. From inside, Seokjin opens the bedroom window, calling down to his boyfriend.
“Have you had enough yet?”
“No!” Yoongi shouts back, eyes closed as he continues to lay on the sidewalk.
Seokjin smiles, closing the window back. He changes into more appropriate clothing, covering himself with a raincoat, unlike the younger. He exits their apartment, finding his way to the boy, who is still in the same place as he was when Seokjin last saw him.
“Yoongi, you’re going to get sick!”
He opens his eyes, looking up at his boyfriend. An even bigger smile appears on his face as he rises to his feet. Yoongi gazes at Seokjin, stars in his eyes. He’s never been so in love before. Even just looking at the elder makes his day better. Seokjin may not be willing to ever admit it but Yoongi knows it’s true. The two are soulmates. The universe brought them together and the universe will always keep them together. They’re two halves of one whole.
Yoongi reaches up, cupping Seokjin’s cheek with his cold, wet hand. “It’s you and me forever, right?”
“You and me forever, Yoongi.”
He stands on his tip-toes, leaning forward to connect their lips. As they kiss, Yoongi pushes the jacket's hood off of Seokjin’s head, letting the rain fall on him, too. He runs his fingers through his now wet hair, feeling Seokjin’s arms wrap around his torso to pull him closer. Seokjin just barely lifts him off the ground, savoring the sweet kiss.
Yoongi will never grow tired of kissing Seokjin. Every kiss is just as magical as the first. Every kiss reminds him of that night and the stars and how his moon showed him the prettiest constellations. Even when they pull apart, Yoongi can’t help himself. He goes back in for one more kiss and another after that. ‘One more’ will never be enough.
“Dance with me?”
“Only if you promise to come back inside after.”
He pecks the elder’s lips, “promise.”
Seokjin smiles, grabbing his boyfriend’s hand, and leading him out into the empty area of the parking lot. He twirls the boy around, dancing freely with him. Yoongi laughs so much that his cheeks begin to hurt from how much he’s smiling. They must look like complete idiots to anyone watching but to them, this is bliss. This is pure joy. They’re like little kids in love, doing everything that makes them happy.
Yoongi even convinces Seokjin to lay down with him for a minute, just to experience what he did before. Seokjin doesn’t want to admit it, as he doesn’t with most things, but Yoongi was right. Right now, he feels the most alive that he ever has. And, it’s not because of the rain, like it was with Yoongi. It’s because he’s with the younger, at his side, completely and utterly happy.
Being truly alive is something like this. Being happy and being with the one person that makes him feel like making it to the next day. It’s him and Yoongi forever. That’s their promise to each other.
Seokjin turns his head on the pavement, gazing at his boyfriend. Yoongi still has his eyes closed, enjoying the feeling so the elder squeezes his hand to get his attention.
“Hm?” he asks.
“I love you.”
Yoongi smiles. He’s so endeared. “I love you, too. So much.”
“You and me forever, right?”
“You and me forever, Seokjinnie.”
After another minute or so, the two finally head back inside. They drip water all the way back to Yoongi’s apartment door, going straight for the bathroom once they enter the unit. Like he said he would, Yoongi takes a warm bath to bring feeling back to his body. Seokjin only towel dries his head and the few wet parts of his body, as his raincoat kept him mostly dry while outside.
That night, as the storm grows even more, Yoongi remains in Seokjin’s arms, holding him close for warmth. Seokjin just couldn’t say no to him. And, when they wake up the next morning, the storm has passed. Outside, the world is calm and everything is finally quiet.
Just as Seokjin predicted, Yoongi wakes up with a cold. He’s all kinds of sniffly but so is Seokjin. Maybe he caught it from the storm or maybe he caught it from Yoongi after being so close to him all night. Either way, neither boy seems to care too much.
After all, it means getting to spend just a little extra time in bed, curled up next to their soulmate.
