Work Text:
Scully's weekend has been cut short again when she received a call from the hospital needing her help for a crucial operation, of course she feels guilty and sad about cutting off her weekend with her favourite boys but Mulder reassured her that they'll be fine and that she should just take a day off after the surgery and maybe they could go out for a picnic at the park.
Off she went, leaving Mulder with a sound kiss on the lips and a promise of a very special surprise for being understanding, and kisses all over William's face as well.
So it's 9 am on a Sunday, Mulder and his three year old son, William are left to their own devices. He thinks about going out for a walk but quickly realises it's too early for that.
Instead he heads to the playroom where he knows where his son would be.
"Hey buddy!"
William looks up from the alien spacecraft he's playing with. Scully was a little worried to let William play with it at first but Mulder reassured her that it's safe and; "they're grey, Scully. they're the right aliens Willy should play with," he said with a childlike grin on his face that his son has inherited.
"Daddy, play!" William perks up after hearing his father and raises both of his arms to him while opening and closing his palm.
Mulder quickly sits beside William, picking him up and transferring him to his lap.
"Wow you got a lot of aliens there, baby."
William nods with a toothless smile.
"What colour is this, Willy?" he asks, wiggling a little alien wearing a cowboy hat.
"Gwey" William answers, grabbing the alien back from Mulder and putting it on its designated horse. Mulder chuckles at the oddness of it. An alien with a cowboy hat, riding a horse.
"You wanna go watch TV and eat popcorn?"
William jumps at the mention of TV and popcorn, that the top of his head almost hits Mulder's chin. It shouldn't surprise him that William would love popcorn and TV because he's a Mulder junior after all.

Returning from the kitchen with a bowl of buttered popcorn, he sees his son holding a tape. One which he remembers Scully buying, four colourful aliens adorning the cover of the tape. According to her, William grabbed it while they were shopping and the kid had thrown a major tantrum when she told him they couldn't buy it, so really she had no choice. Mulder just shrugged and fought back the smile that threatened to escape his lips.
"Tubbies, Daddy please," William calls, shoving the tape on Mulder's face; breaking him off from his trance.
"Okay, they look weird Willy but we will watch it as long as you won't tell Mama we had buttered popcorn, okay?"
William just ignores him, choosing to start on munching his favourite snack. Mulder thinks about introducing him to sunflower seeds but Scully would probably throw him and his fishes out.
Popping the CD onto the DVD he makes his way back to the couch where his son has sprawled out and is already dancing along to the theme song of the tape.
"Four tubbies, Daddy look!" he exclaims, seeing the four weird looking colourful aliens.
Mulder's winces a little at his son's obvious amusement to the creatures on screen. They really should start an X file about these weird colour looking aliens
"Good job Will, they're four indeed!" he praises.
Half way through the tape, the popcorn is all consumed and they both reposition themselves with Will on top of Mulder—who's sprawled out on the couch— sucking on his pacifier.
"Daddy, change please," he requests, pointing at the TV.
Mulder didn't really think he'd be hooked up to this silly show with these silly looking colour aliens but he finds himself humming along to the theme song of it.
"In a minute baby."
"No, Daddy change please. Stitch please." He whines tapping Mulder cheeks with his pacifier.
"Hang on Willy, look they're climbing through the mountains yeah?" he chirps excitedly, willing his child to let him watch the show.
The two continue to banter. Mulder, convincing William to continue to watch the show, and William, wanting his dear father to put on the small blue monster instead. In the end of course William wins.
With a heavy sigh he stands and pops the Stitch show, returning to the floor crossing his arms with a big pout on his lips.
William, unaware of his father's sulking, is beside him jumping and giggling while copying how Stitch walks.
"What's going on here? Scully interrupts, seeing an excited William and a not so amused Mulder.
She went straight back home, after discovering that her help was no longer needed when the assigned doctor of the operation decided to show up.
Upon hearing the matriarch of the household, both boys look surprised but very excited to see her home.
"Mama! Stitch!" William runs straight to Scully's waiting arms, who didn't waste any time to pick him up and kiss him for all he's worth.
"Yeah? Are you watching movies with Daddy? Why is daddy pouting then?" She asks, tickling her son's belly.
William doesn't answer but instead, wiggles to be put down so he can continue watching the show.
"What's wrong Mulder?" she asks, sitting down beside him on the couch and pressing a kiss to his lips.
"We were having a boys' time watching Teletubbies, Scully. And I like it but he started whining for that stitch monster to be put on instead"
"I thought you said they're and I quote 'not very educational because their colours are obviously wrong' " Scully replies with a smirk on her face, while playing with Mulder's hair.
"Yeah I know but they're fun! We were watching it until he started demanding it to be changed to that one— that's traumatising Scully! look at his face," he replies with a whine.
"Aww poor big baby," she teases, obviously enjoying the scenario.
"Wiley, come here to Mama, baby."
"Do you think we could put the Tubbies back? Because Daddy seems to like it and remember, sharing is good right?"
William seems to contemplate the request with a deep thought. Turning to his father who's snuggling to Scully's side.
"Daddy? like Tubbies?" He asks, climbing into Mulder's lap and burrowing into the warmth of his neck.
"Yeah I do, baby." Mulder replies while caressing William back and dropping gentle kisses to his head.
Scully almost melts at the scene playing in front of her. The family she always wanted is right there in front of her and she'll be damned if anyone would ever attempt to take it away from her.
Dreams really do come true after all, all thanks to Mulder's miracle sperm. She chuckles at her last though.
"Mama play Tubbies please." William requests, not moving from his comfortable position on Mulder's lap.
She can practically see Mulder's eyes turn into hearts, as she gets up and puts on the Teletubbies.
All three of them cuddled on the couch watching colourful aliens. Safe, sound, happy, and content. Life could not get better than this.
