Work Text:

Yelena limped into her and Kate’s apartment, wincing and holding her side.

Kate jumped up from where she was sitting on the couch and ran over to her, clearly worried.

“Yelena! What’s wrong, where are you hurt?”

Yelena grimaced before answering.

“He nicked me in the side. Got my leg, too.”

Kate helped her sit down at the table and got their first aid kit from the bathroom.

She started wrapping Yelena’s leg, muttering something under her breath as she did so.

“What was that?” Yelena asked.

Kate looked slightly guilty that she’d been heard.

“Nothing. It’s just…why do you have to get yourself injured almost every single night, Lena? Every time you go out, I worry that you’re going to get really hurt, too hurt for me to help you.”

Yelena smiled softly.

“I’m sorry, дорогая. Believe me, I don’t want to get injured, but it comes with this line of work.”

Kate scowled (cutely, in Yelena’s opinion).

“Where do you even go every night? As far as I know, we don’t have that much crime around here.”

Yelena smirked.

“And who do you think makes that happen?”

Kate laughed despite her annoyance.

“Guess I should have known that the fearsome Yelena was single-handedly keeping the streets of New York safe.”

“Actually, I’m not the only one,” Yelena said. “ I’ve seen a couple other people helping “keep the peace” while I’m out there.”

“Really?” Kate said, now intrigued.

“Yeah there’s this dude who swings through the air in this red and blue onesie. Kind of embarrassing, if you ask me. But he does help with a lot of robberies and muggings.”

“That’s Spider-Man. He’s awesome. He’s kind of a big deal around here, too.”

Yelena scoffed. “Spider-Man? What, does he have 6 extra legs and pincers that I didn’t see?”

Kate laughed. “No, he’s just a normal guy, as far as we know. He can stick to walls, though. And he can shoot webs out of his arms.”

Yelena smiled and then shifted in her seat as Kate wiped at her side with an antiseptic wipe.

“Are you nearly finished?”

Kate smiled apologetically. “ Sorry. Yeah, I’m almost done, just gotta wrap this up.”

She quickly wrapped a bandage around Yelena’s waist, making sure all of the wound was covered.

She then stood up and gave Yelena a quick kiss before packing up the med kit and going to put it back in the bathroom.

Yelena stayed at the table, smiling softly to herself as she thought fondly of her girlfriend.

Sure, they had their fights, but the fights never lasted long.

And at the end of the day, they always ended up next to each other, both confident in their love for the other.

Kate came back from the bathroom and helped Yelena stand up from her position at the table.

They walked over to the couch and sat down, Kate leaning her head on Yelena’s shoulder.

“I’m sorry I got mad at you,” Kate said.

“No, Kate, it’s alright. You have every right to be mad at me. I know I am not around all the time, and technically I don’t have to be out there. I just can’t stay inactive while there’s so much I could be doing to help. I’m sorry that I am not with you as much as I could be.”

Kate smiled and put her arms around Yelena, being careful to not touch her wound. “I forgive you. I’m not mad anymore anyways. I’m just glad that I get to be here, with you.”

Yelena smiled. “Me too.”
