Hyungie can we hang out today?
From: taehyungie hyungie hyung
I’m sorry Koo I’m hanging out with Hyejin again today, maybe tomorrow
Jungkook sighed. That’s the same thing he had said yesterday, and the day before, and the day before. It had become an endless cycle. Taehyung has been hanging out with Hyejin for weeks. Jungkook has barely seen him and they’re the ones that live together, not Hyejin and Taehyung.
Jungkook can’t even remember the last time they had a date or even shared a kiss. He just missed Taehyung, but Taehyung obviously doesn’t feel the same. If he did he would’ve been spending all of his time with Jungkook, his boyfriend, and not Hyejin, a friend.
It was 2 hours later at 7:00 pm when Taehyung and Hyejin entered their house. Taehyung and Jungkook’s home. The home where they’ve lived for 3 years and shared all of their memories. The two come in laughing, Hyejin wearing Taehyung’s hoodie. Jungkook, who had jumped up at the sound of the door opening, was excited to finally see Taehyung. He frowned upon seeing them. That was the hoodie that Jungkook had gifted Taehyung on their one-year anniversary almost exactly 3 years ago. Had Taehyung given it to Hyejin?
That night had been special to both of them. It was the night they first said “I love you.” out loud. Both of them knew that even if, later on down the line, they broke up that they would both cherish that memory. Jungkook is confused about why Hyejin has that hoodie when that piece of clothing is part of such an important memory.
“Hey koo, what’d you do today?” Taehyung asks, walking past the younger. “Well, you would know if you were home,” Jungkook mumbled. “What was that Koo?” Taehyung questioned, pausing his quiet conversation with Hyejin. Jungkook had the tv on all day but didn’t watch it. He stared at the wall, random thoughts flying through his head. Thoughts about him and Taehyung, about their future, about what the fuck was going with Taehyung, and so many more things. He obviously couldn’t share that information so he decided on saying, “Ah it was nothing hyung, I just watched tv all day, nothing special” Jungkook leaned in to kiss Taehyung. Except Taehyung pulled away and grabbed Hyejin’s arm, pulling her towards the couch.
Normally Taehyung would never, even, think of doing that. Ever. He would always give Jungkook kisses no matter what. For God’s sake, the man even kissed him when he was sick no matter how many times Jungkook told him not to do that. Of course, that was normal Taehyung. He’s changed in the past two weeks.
Jungkook looked at Taehyung, hurt evident in his eyes. Has he really become that unimportant to Taehyung? No, he couldn’t be, Taehyung still loved him, right? They’d been together for 4 years, if Taehyung didn’t love him anymore he would’ve said something. He would’ve mentioned it if he was unhappy. He always did.
There were times when Taehyung was unhappy with something and he would always tell Jungkook. Times when he was concerned, disgusted, happy, sad… really any emotion he had. He told Jungkook all of that. They shared their thoughts and right now Taehyung wasn’t doing that. That is what was really hurting Jungkook.
As those thoughts ran around his head he couldn't help but lower his head, not wanting to make eye contact with Taehyung. He walked down the hall and past the living room. As he walked he couldn't help but look up from the floor and gaze at all of the pictures hanging on the walls. There was a large variety of pictures, some by themselves, some with their hyungs, and some with family. In all of the pictures, they were together, every single one of them. They both hated being apart, but they were apart now and Taehyung seemed to be enjoying it.
He finally reached their door and turned the knob. He walked into his and Taehyung’s room. Walking towards the bed he began to think about what had happened this past week. He sat down before allowing himself to go deeper into a spiral of thoughts. Taehyung has done nothing but ignore him. He talks to Hyejin 24/7. And when he got home after hanging out with Hyejin all day, he'd get a phone call with her and he would talk in a hushed voice as if he didn’t want Jungkook to hear what he was saying. This was odd as the couple would always share everything with each other. Important things, weird things, stupid things, it had never mattered.
The only thing they’ve done together recently is sleep. Taehyung will come home when Jungkook is already asleep and be gone by the time he wakes up. Before breakfast and after dinner. They don’t have meals together, they don’t watch tv together, they don’t just lay in bed for hours together anymore. These may seem like small things but they were things that Jungkook had gotten used to. There were too many things changing too suddenly, and most importantly without any said or reasonable explanation. Jungkook hated it.
He can’t help but think that this is the way that they will end. Because if that’s not what this is leading up to then what is it leading up to? Taehyung obviously wants to be with Hyejin, that seems to be the reason he’s spending so much time with her. It all starts to make sense to Jungkook. “Hyejin is prettier, smarter, funnier, she’s just better than me,” he mumbles quietly as he lets himself fall back onto the mattress.
His eyes began to water before he got off the bed, and headed to the closet. He made up his mind and grabbed some clothes and put them in a backpack. He won’t be gone long, he knows that. Just enough time to let Taehyung have his time with Hyejin because he’s obviously in the way of them. He sighs and leaves the room, walking back to the living room and seeing Taehyung and Hyejin still just laughing together. “I’m gonna go to Yoongi Hyung’s for a while, I don’t know when I’ll be back,” he announces. “Okay, have fun,” Taehyung waves him off, continuing his conversation with Hyejin, barely acknowledging that he had left.
Tears were in Jungkook’s eyes as he walked out of the house to his car. Taehyung has never ignored him. Ever. This is just another reason that he thinks Taehyung is going to leave him. He looks back to their house one more time, hoping Taehyung would be at the door waving, or making his way to kiss him goodbye. He had been hopeful that Taehyung would come out and stop him from leaving, but he didn't. He texts Yoongi, telling him that he’s coming over, and leaves Taehyung inside the house Hyejin. Hopefully for the last time. He wants to come back, but he just doesn’t know if he’ll be able to.
Is this really how they’d end? With no communication between them? With such a sad ending? Jungkook knows they need to talk but Taehyung doesn’t seem interested in doing that with anyone other than Hyejin.
There were so many things going wrong with them right now and Jungkook couldn’t help thinking that it was his fault. His fault that Taehyung is distant, his fault that Taehyung doesn’t want him, his fault that Taehyung is days away from breaking up with him…
As soon as he gets to Yoongi’s house the elder is waiting outside for him, his arms open. Jungkook runs, longing for the feeling of comfort he'd been missing. Almost instantly letting out the tears he had been holding in since he started driving. “I just don’t understand hyung, why doesn’t he love me anymore?” he practically screams. Yoongi rocks him back and forth, a frown on his face, “I’m sure he still loves you, Kook. Let’s go inside okay?”
Yoongi brings Jungkook to the couch, Jungkook laying his head on Yoongi’s lap. “You wanna talk about it, Kook?” The man in question simply shakes his head. “I just don’t know why he’s so adamant about ignoring me. We haven’t spent time together all week because all he does is spend time with Hyejin,” Jungkook explains. “Do you think he wants to leave me? Is that why he hangs out with Hyejin so often? Maybe he’s just trying to make me get the hint so he doesn’t have to break up with me and I’ll be the one breaking up with him.”
Suddenly Yoongi’s phone rings, “It’s Taehyung.” Jungkook sits up, looking at Yoongi with a surprised face. “You should answer it, hyung.” Yoongi gets up from the couch, walks into the hallway, and picks up the call.
“You absolute fucking idiot, Jungkook is worried sick. He’s crying on my couch thinking that you’re going to break up with him. What the fuck are you doing?” Yoongi, being absolutely reasonably pissed, whisper yelled to Taehyung. “Okay, look hyung I know how bad this looks to Jungkook but I had to get him away from the house, you know that.”
“Yes Taehyung, but I also know that you’re being a fucking dumbass because the man that loves you will with his whole entire heart thinks you’re gonna break-” Yoongi gets cut off by Taehyung, “I know he thinks I’m gonna break up with him, you already said that hyung, but I’m not and that’s what matters.”
“Don’t fucking cut me off you brat, just because you’re planning this big surprise for Jungkook doesn’t mean you can just leave him in the dark, don’t just ignore him. This is affecting him in a bigger way than you know.”
“Okay now that’s just rude hyung,” Taehyung responds with a pout. “And anyway, it’s not just a big surprise it’s so much more than that.”
“Whatever,” Yoongi says, pausing. “Just please, fix it, and do that soon. I can’t stand seeing him this sad, if you saw him right now you would want to run up to him and give him the biggest fucking hug in the world and if that’s not what you do tomorrow I will fucking murder you. And just so you know, that’s a promise, not a threat,” then he hangs up before Taehyung could say anything in response.
Yoongi walks back to the living room, seeing that Jungkook is now sleeping on the couch. His eyes were red and puffy, drying tear streaks running down his face. Yoongi sighed. What was Taehyung thinking? Yoongi picked up Jungkook, struggling a bit because wow Jungkook works out a lot more than one would think. He brought him down the hall to the guest bedroom, laying him down gently. “If he ever hurts you, I’ll be here for you. Always.” He gently whispers to the sleeping Junkook. He brings his fingers to his lips, then rests them on Jungkook’s temple, gently to not disturb his sleep.
The man had loved Jungkook since he first saw him, he was walking into SNU looking so lost. His doe eyes were wide and constantly looking around. Yoongi was instantly endeared by the sight of him and decided to walk up to him. He asked if he needed help with anything.
Since then, they continued to talk and soon after became the best of friends. They did everything together. Yoongi’s feelings of endearment grew into something bigger than he thought they would become. And he wasn’t dumb, he knew he had a crush on the younger, but he didn’t want to, nor could he bring himself to do anything about it. He didn’t want to risk their friendship, so he stayed quiet and kept every emotion to himself. Even if it was hurting him in the long run.
An estimated year later, Jungkook had introduced him to Taehyung, his other best friend. And of course, Yoongi knew that Jungkook had other friends but other best friends? He thought he was the only one.
From then on they started hanging out as a group of three. It was rare to see them in a pair. Everyone on campus knew about the three, and how they always seemed to be hanging out as a trio. 3 months later, the day Yoongi was going to confess, he texted Jungkook to meet him by the door next to the music department after his last class which ended at 4. However, that morning when he was walking in, he saw Jungkook and Taehyung kissing. He stopped walking, absolutely shocked. As soon as he got back to his senses he walked back to his dorm, locking himself in his room.
He liked Jungkook for a year and a half, and on the exact day that he was going to confess, Taehyung just so happened to do it. What are the odds of that? Was the world against him getting together with Jungkook? Was he not meant to be with him? Was that it?
He didn’t come out of his room for the whole week. He got texts from both Taehyung and Jungkook but he didn’t answer any. Every time he thought about what had happened he felt sick.
His stomach tightened at the image of Taehyung’s lips connecting with Junkooks, the same lips he’d hoped to kiss later that day…His vision would blur when he remembered himself running to his room, running to escape the scene… His breathing became irregular when he wondered if either of them noticed he’d seen them kiss. Were they even public, did they plan on going public? Was he in lo- no. He didn’t let his thoughts venture that deep into the memory. He refused to remember the pain he’d felt. He didn't know how he was possibly going to face Jungkook.
Just then he heard a knock on his door. He reluctantly got out of his bed, rubbing his eyes. He opens the door, seeing Jungkook with his big bunny smile standing there. “Hey hyung! You didn’t answer any of my or Taehyungie’s texts so I thought I would come over and see how you were,” he takes a break to look at Yoongi’s appearance. “I haven’t seen you in a whole week and when I do you look like absolute shit. What’s wrong?” he asks, letting himself into Yoongi’s dorm, like he always did. However this time it hurt Yoongi to see his, most likely taken, crush so comfortable in his dorm.
Yoongi sighs, “I don’t really wanna talk about it, Kook.”
Jungkook seemed surprised but immediately his eyes softened and he nodded subconsciously. “Well that’s okay hyung, we can just watch a movie or something!”
“Where’s Taehyung?”
“Oh, he’s at class right now. I thought we could have some one-on-one time since we don’t do that much anymore.” They sat on the couch, turned on the tv, and watched Bambi. Well at least Jungkook watches it, Yoongi is looking at Jungkook the whole time. Thinking of what would have been, and what could have…if he had not hesitated as much as he did. He fought tears most of the time but Jungkook’s mere presence was enough to help keep him calm.
Eventually, Jungkook left, allowing Yoongi to wallow in self-pity again, to a much bigger degree now.
The next week Jungkook and Taehyung officially tell Yoongi that they were dating and Yoongi pretends to be surprised even though he had known for two weeks already, though it hadn't been as if he or they intended him to find out, they hadn't even pieced together he found out.
After that incident, Yoongi would act like everything was okay, slowly growing apart from them. Not too much that it would be obvious but enough to where he wasn’t constantly hanging out with them, his excuse being along the lines of “you guys need to spend time together”, “go on a date”, and “you don’t need me to have fun.”
Now 4 years later, he hasn’t said a word about his feelings to anyone, he still tries to stay out of their way, and every time he sees them together, a tiny piece of his heart breaks. He’s getting sick and tired of holding all of it in. Maybe if he had done something sooner to help himself, then maybe, just maybe he wouldn’t be in this mess. Maybe if he had moved, or truly taken time away from the both of them, he wouldn’t still be heartbroken after all these years.
He walked down the hall towards his bedroom, collapsing on the bed. He never wanted to be a part of Taehyung’s plan. He knew it was going to hurt Jungkook, so why would he want to be a part of it?
He went to sleep, knowing what awaited him tomorrow, he knew he had to be prepared, but he didn’t think he ever would be.
The next day Jungkook woke up exhausted. He opened his phone to the camera and saw how red his face was. It was obvious that he had been crying. He closed his phone, slowly getting up and out of the bed. He made his way to the kitchen, the smell of sausage wafting in his nose. He sat down at the table after getting some food. The two didn’t talk, Yoongi staring off into space and Jungkook just looking down at his plate.
Jungkook didn’t know how to act, he was used to eating alone at this point. Without Taehyung being at the house it was lonely. He had no one to talk to so he would always stare at the food he made for the both of them. He had hoped that Taehyung would come back to him at least long enough so they could eat a meal together. He would wait for it to get cold then pack it all up, keeping it as leftovers that he would probably never eat.
Now that he had someone to eat with, it almost felt wrong. It felt like his whole routine was off. But in a way, it felt so much better. Being alone wasn’t something that Jungkook enjoyed. He loved people’s attention on him, he loved being able to talk to people, and it made him feel extremely lonely when he didn’t have that. Sitting here with Yoongi, his best friend of five years, made him so happy. He realized that he really wasn’t alone and that made him feel great.
He was happy for the first time in two weeks just by being able to sit at a table and have a meal with someone. That truly showed how much Taehyung had been neglecting him. Jungkook had never felt lonely throughout his whole time with Taehyung. He felt happy, sad, excited, so many different emotions, but never lonely.
Taehyung made it a point to never ignore Jungkook when they would argue, he would either work it out straight away or just sit next to Jungkook, doing something unrelated to him. He always made sure that they were together when they fought, he didn’t want things to get out of hand so he never left his side when things were like that. He knew Jungkook and he knew how insecure he could be so quickly. This is why Jungkook is genuinely concerned about what is happening. Taehyung would never even think to leave him alone for that long. It makes him question everything about the two.
“Hyung, I think I should break it off with Taehyung,” Jungkook says out of nowhere, still looking down at his plate. Yoongi, shocked, turns his head towards Jungkook, mouth ajar.
“You wanna do what now?” his mind refused to believe what he just heard. Out of shock, or instinct to defend his heart, he didn't know.
“I mean just think about it, hyung. He always spends time with Hyejin, he ignores me, he obviously doesn’t want to be with me anymore, so I’ll just do the favor and break up with him.”
“Okay, Kook, I really need you to think about this. You guys have been together for 4 years. Sure, you guys have had arguments, but you always work through them. Don’t make any rash decisions, talk to him. Please. I want you to be happy and I know you’re the happiest when you’re with him.”
And Jungkook being the emotional person he is, stands up throwing himself across Yoongi, hugging the absolute shit out of him, “You’re right hyung, I’ll talk to him.”
From: koo
Tae? Can we talk? It’s really important
From: taehyungie hyungie hyung
Um sure Koo, come to the house in an hour, no earlier than that
From: koo
Ok?
Jungkook isn’t quite sure why he isn’t allowed to go home before an hour has passed. It’s his home too and Taehyung is kicking him out of it. His mind immediately began to jump the gun of what he could be doing but he shook his head and excused himself from the table.
In the meantime, he decided to freshen himself up. He took a shower, changed into what he wanted to wear, got into the restroom, and brushed his teeth. About 20 minutes before he leaves, Yoongi knocks on the door, telling him that he has to go somewhere, but that Jungkook is allowed to stay for as long as he needs before he goes back to his house.
As Jungkook leaves the house, he can’t help but think of all the things that could go wrong. What if they break up, what if Taehyung told him he doesn’t love him anymore? There are so many what-ifs going through his head while he’s driving that he doesn’t see the light turn red.
It felt as if everything slowed. Jungkook distinctly heard a loud honk. While the car’s horn was blasting in the background his hands tightened on the steering wheel subconsciously. He had just gotten over the initial startle when he heard the impact of two cars crashing. It overbeared the honk and he noticed it sounded oddly close. Closer than he thought it should be.
That was until he noticed that the car being crashed was his. Pieces of glass were flying. The car was halfway into the passenger side by the time the airbags began to expand. The scratchy texture of the nylon fabric scraped at his face as his head was slammed into the headrest.
The airbag kept most of the glass from hitting his face but his right arm was left open wide to the small shards flying everywhere. He felt the other car stop pushing his car but he felt that his car had hit something else, causing his body to be jostled more and his left arm to be partially crushed.
Something seemed to have punched him in the ribs but he couldn't put a finger on it. His legs were hurting but he couldn't seem to focus enough to pinpoint the sensation or gauge this injury either.
His mind began to grow fuzzier. His sight became hazy. The last thing he seemed to register was a nearing siren as he thought, ‘And I left early to get to the house on time..’
Taehyung is nervously waiting at their house. It’s 30 minutes past when Jungkook was supposed to be there. He had thought that Jungkook would want to be there as soon as it had been an hour. Yoongi, along with Jimin, Jin, Hobi, and Joon were all there waiting for him. They helped Taehyung decorate the whole front room just to make this day special for Jungkook. Taehyung thought that it would’ve been a good idea to propose to Jungkook on their 4th anniversary. Hyejin had helped him a lot with it as well, it was the reason they had been spending so much time together. Taehyung felt bad about leaving Jungkook alone but he wanted to get the ring and everything ready by their anniversary and to be able to do that he had to get up crazy early and get back home crazy late.
Yoongi confirmed that Jungkook had left 20 minutes before the arranged time, so it had been 50 minutes which is very unusual. The drive from Yoongi to Taehyung’s house was 20 minutes, 25 with traffic. Jimin texted Jungkook asking him what he was up to, nothing suspicious, but he never answered.
All of a sudden Taehyung’s phone rings. “It’s the hospital…” he says, surprised. He has no clue as to why they would be calling him. He answers, eyebrows furrowed. His face suddenly drops, his body becomes numb. His phone falls to the floor, but he couldn’t care enough to pick it up and check for cracks. “He’s in the hospital.”
Everyone looks at Taehyung, not believing what he just said. What had happened to him? He was perfectly fine before, so what happened? It would make sense as to why Jungkook hadn't come, but still. How unlikely is it that something would've happened on this exact day, their anniversary, the day Taehyung wanted to propose?
They all got up, the realization that there is actually something wrong with Jungkook hitting them. “I’ll drive,” Jin mindlessly says, grabbing his keys off the coffee table. Taehyung silently picked up his phone in a daze. He shoved it into his pocket and made a beeline to the car.
They’re all quiet during the drive. Either staring out the window or off into space. No one had expected this to happen. They all thought that it would be a good day, everyone would be happy. Everyone would be celebrating Taehyung and Jungkook’s engagement, but that wouldn’t happen now. At least not today.
They got to the hospital, all rushing out of the car, Taehyung practically running. When they get to the front desk they ask for Jungkook’s room number only to find out that they aren’t allowed to go in yet. The receptionist asks, concerned if they want her to call in the doctor who was looking at Jungkook’s health. “YES,” Taehyung screams, then realizing how loud that was murmurs another, much quieter yes. He just wanted to know if the person he loved most was going to be okay.
He knows he hasn’t been treating him the best lately and that was something he needed to apologize for. He was going to do that today during his big ‘Will you marry me’ speech but he didn’t get to do that. There were so many things that he wanted to tell Jungkook today. So many things that he didn’t get to tell him and might not be able to tell him. Like the way his eyes shine when they’re together and it makes it look like there are thousands of stars held captive in them. The way he loves when his eyes smile before his big bunny smile comes out. That he loves the way he’s so open with him, he doesn’t hold anything back and if something were to bug him he would immediately tell Taehyung so that he can stop it. There are so many things he loves about Jungkook and now he is afraid that he won’t ever be able to tell him. Absolutely terrified.
The doctor comes out, walking up to them. “Who here is Taehyung? The one we called?” And after Taehyung raises his hand slightly the doctor continues, “We called the first person on his emergency contacts, is it right to assume you two are very close or trusting of each other?”
“Yes sir, I’m his boyfriend, have been for 4 years.”
“Okay, so there are a few things we would like to talk about. The first being that he lost quite a bit of blood, there were a lot of glass shards in him from the car crash, luckily we removed all of them and stitched up a few of the fairly deep wounds. He also fractured a rib, but I assure you that he will be good in no time. He is doing perfectly fine right now as far as we know. We did an MRI to check for any brain damage that could cause amnesia or anything of the sort and he appears to be fine. Of course, we have to wait for him to wake up before we can fully be assured and make sure everything is perfect but he will be fine. Are there any questions about Mr. Jeon’s health?”
Everyone shakes their head and the doctor walks away. Everyone is still trying to piece everything together. They are all thankful that nothing fatal happened to Jungkook, Taehyung especially. He felt like he could finally breathe. He had been holding his breath this whole time just hoping that Jungkook was okay. Taehyung reaches for his phone in his pocket, feeling the box that the ring was in. He must have forgotten to put it down in his state of shock. He realizes that he wants to propose to Jungkook as soon as possible now. If another accident like this happens, one that doesn’t allow Jungkook to survive, he has no clue what he would do.
Suddenly he doesn’t care about any big plans to propose, he doesn’t care about the weeks he took to plan anything, the effort he put into it. He wants to go into that hospital room, sit down next to his bed, hold his hand, and ask him to marry him. He knows Jungkook doesn't need anything big. They’ve talked about it before, Jungkook doesn’t care how he gets proposed to as long as it’s to someone he loves and cares about, and Taehyung knows that’s him.
“You guys can come in now, we don’t know when he’ll wake up but he might be able to hear you.” Taehyung had never gotten up from a chair that fast before in his life. The chair faintly scraped the floor. The others decided to wait a bit and let them have some space, especially after the scare Taehyung was given. Everyone also knew that Taehyung would want some time alone with Jungkook.
He walks down the hall, following the doctor that showed him to Jungkook’s room, bowing at him before he leaves. He sucks in a breath and opens the door, his heart immediately freezing. His eyes get teary as he sees all of the IVs in his arms and the machines hooked up to him. The sight of his lover so pale, and lifeless looking surrounded by so many machines monitoring him, was absolutely killing him inside. Nothing had ever hurt him more. He hated this feeling. He never wanted to consider living in a world where he didn’t have Jungkook.
He sat by his side, as he gently grabbed his hand. It was cold, an unfamiliar feeling to Taehyung. He wishes Jungkook would wake up so he could apologize for everything. Maybe if he made Jungkook wait a little longer or let him come sooner then maybe he wouldn't be in the hospital.
The others come in a few minutes later, taking in the state that Jungkook is in. It’s so unusual. The youngest is usually bouncing off the walls, screaming even when you are two inches away from him. He’s always so full of energy and makes everyone around him happy. It’s strange seeing him like this, quiet and unmoving.
They leave after sitting there for an hour, none of them moved or talked. They could see it getting darker outside, so they had telepathically decided it was time to leave. When Jin was dropping everyone off it was just as quiet as before. The only time anyone said something was when they were getting out of the car, mumbling a bye. Before Taehyung got out, the last stop before Jin went to his house, he held Taehyung’s hand. “I know how hard this is for you, trust me, but I also know that he will be ok. The doctor knows he will. Sure we don’t know when he’ll wake up. It could be a few hours, days, or even weeks, but he will wake up, trust me.”
“Thank you hyung,” he said, hugging Jin before getting out of the car.
As soon as he stepped into his house the tears came falling. He held everything in for way too long. The thought of him almost losing Jungkook made him want to explode but he didn’t want to worry his friends so he stayed calm, pretending like he was fine.
At least as fine as he could be, considering he'd just seen his lover’s body looking dead. He walked into the living room, seeing all the decorations he had set up. He ignored them for the time being, slowly walking down the hall towards his room. He would have to go to bed for the second day in a row without Jungkook. He hated it. He missed being able to be next to him and feel his warmth. It helped him go to sleep knowing that when he would wake up in the morning Jungkook would be right next to him. He didn’t want to think about how long he would have to wait for that.
A week. Taehyung waited a week. He went to the hospital every day, always bringing the ring with him so that if Jungkook did wake up then he could finally ask him. Sometimes one of the hyungs would come. They would make sure Taehyung ate and had someone to talk to. They all knew how much pain he had been going through that whole entire week. When Jungkook finally woke up, only Taehyung was in the room at the time. The elder had been holding his hand and Jungkook squeezed it, gaining his attention. He looked at Jungkook and his breath hitched. His eyes watered. “I’m so sorry my love,” he whispered.
“It’s okay Taehyungie.”
“No, it’s not. I left you alone. I can’t even imagine all the bad things going through your head. Please know that I would never leave you, ever. That thought would never even cross my mind. I want to be with you for as long as you’ll let me have and be with you. I will never be the one to push you away and I can only hope you never want to push me away. ”
Jungkook chose to ignore a part of his confession and chose to get the answer to the question that had been running through his head nonstop, “Why did you do it hyung? Why were you with Hyejin?”
“I was planning a surprise for you.” Taehyung bowed his head, seemingly in shame, he took a soft breath before continuing and lifting his head to make eye contact again, “For our anniversary. I’m so sorry, I got so wrapped up in trying to get everything perfect I didn’t realize how badly I was neglecting you. I’m really, really sorry.”
“It’s fine hyung, I know you didn’t mean it. And I’m sorry that I didn’t make it to your surprise.”
“Okay, first of all, stop saying it’s fine, what I did to you will never be fine, but I will make it up to you. I promise I will find a way to show you how sorry I am. Second of all, don’t you dare apologize for not being there. The surprise is still waiting for you back at the house, so you didn’t miss anything. It would just be a late anniversary gift. And honestly fuck the whole surprise. I don’t need to have some big celebration to tell you how much I love you. Third of all, the surprise is a surprise and that should be the least of your worries right now. Now, how are you feeling? I should probably go get a doctor so they can check on you. Actually, never mind, I don't want anyone to see you right now. You’re in a vulnerable state so-”
“HYUNG”
“What?”
“You were rambling, you only ramble when you have to tell me something. So what is it?”
“Sigh-”
“You did not just verbally sigh” the younger tried to stifle a giggle as he smiled.
“Jungkook shut up!”
“OH, YOU DID NOT JUST CALL ME JUNGKOOK. Don’t talk to me,” Jungkook huffs.
“Babe! Just listen to me okay? No interrupting,” Jungkook nods his head so Taehyung continues. “Okay so I’ve been thinking about how to do this for the longest time, I wanted everything to be perfect but I realized that it’ll always be perfect because I’m doing it with you. You make everything around you shine so brightly and I love you for that. I love so many different things about you. I’m not just gonna sit here and list them all because that would take me years and each second I spend with you I think of another reason why I love you. Jungkook, you are absolutely perfect. And I know nothing is perfect, but you are my perfect person and I would like to believe that I am yours. I know things have been crazy lately but that’s just the way we are. We will always be crazy, that’s something I never want to change for us. I want us to always be in this crazy life together, always together. And if you aren’t absolutely appalled with the idea, would you like to spend it with me as well? Will you marry me?” He finally asks, pulling the box out of his pocket.
“KIM MOTHERFUCKING TAEHYUNG I HATE YOU. YOU’RE A FUCKING IDIOT.”
