Sasha parked the car outside of the supermarket. Anne had decided that they could bake a cake for their anniversary. Something about baking with her partners felt interesting and fun, so she commanded Sasha to drive them to get their needed ingredients.
Marcy was the first one to get out of the car, they never baked anything as a child, so the idea of doing that with Anne and Sasha made them extremely happy. They made their excitement pretty noticeable by the way they kept clinging on Sasha’s arm in order to get him to walk faster towards the shop. Anne simply laughed at them, feeling warm about how happy she felt too.
“Okay loves, don’t get distracted, which one of you had the shopping list again?,” Anne said, as they walked through the door.
Sasha put her hand inside her jacket’s pocket, taking out a rather crumpled piece of paper. The note was passed to Marcy, who started to eagerly read it out loud.
“Considering you already had a lot of things at home,” They began, “We mainly need some premade frosting, because none of us are patient enough to make it, food coloring– we need food coloring because the cake needs some pretty colors aaand – Lord Sasha your handwriting is horrible, some strawberries, yup, strawberries, because they are yours and Sasha’s favorites” Marcy said, passing the note to Anne.
Anne nodded, reading the list just in case Marcy forgot anything; which of course they didn’t. Then, she grabbed a shopping basket and she handed it to Sasha. The blonde held the basket with his left hand while his right one was intertwined with Marcy’s.
At some point, while they were picking out which they believed was the freshest pack of strawberries, Marcy walked away as something caught their eye. They returned a few minutes later, dropping some cereal and a suspicious looking box that Sasha chose to ignore.
Soon enough, they were back in the car and Sasha drove them all back home. Sasha managed to catch Marcy’s cereal as Anne grabbed the grocery bag. Anne then saw how Marcy quickly ran past her as they started complaining about wanting to keep the cereal for breakfast and personal gaming snacks.
“It’s not my fault your weird taste rubbed off on me and now I crave this brand of cereal as well Mars,” Sasha said as she dodged Marcy and kept the box of cereal out of their reach, “You don’t let us drink your energy drinks already, let me have some of these at least.”
“That’s because I need the energy drinks to do my gaming marathons,” Marcy replied, getting tired of jumping and changing their tactic. They started tickling the blonde instead, getting him to drop the box to the floor. Now Marcy looked more annoyed than before and started scolding Sasha, who had started laughing at Marcy’s misfortune.
Anne left the remaining ingredients on the kitchen counter as her partners kept arguing. She started taking everything out of the bag but stopped as she found something she didn’t recall buying.
“Mar-Mar…” She said, knowing who had put that inside of the bag.
Said teenager turned on their heels. Marcy’s eyes were set on the tiny plastic box on Anne’s hands. They started smiling as they approached Anne.
“I thought they would look cute, they’re edible flowers, violets to be exact, I love them and their meaning you know–” Marcy started their rumbling but shortly after they were interrupted by Sasha.
“There’s no way you’re putting literal plants on our cake,” He said, grabbing the flowers from Anne’s hands and watching them closely.
“Sash, I already said they are edible,” Marcy said with a scoff.
“I don’t care, I’m not a rabbit,” The blonde replied, making Anne laugh. The brunette grabbed the box of flowers from Sasha’s hands and handed it back to Marcy.
“Sash come on, we’ll make the frosting pink if you want, let Marcy put the flowers, you don’t have to eat them if you don’t want to,” Anne said, back-hugging Sasha and leaving a kiss on his shoulder.
“Anne, we were already going to make the frosting pink either way,” Marcy said as they set everything they bought on the other side of the counter.
“Who’s side are you on dude, I’m trying to help you here,” The Thai girl said incredulously, gaining a wheeze from Sasha as she turned around to plant a quick kiss to her girlfriend’s lips.
“Anyway, we should start baking if we want to eat the cake for dessert,” He said, freeing himself from Anne’s arms and going to get all the different bowls and utensils needed.
Marcy grabbed a phone from the kitchen counter, not caring about who it was from, and started looking up for cake recipes. Anne, who was getting milk and eggs from the fridge, saw it and snatched the phone from her partner’s hands. Marcy just looked at her, confusion being prominent in their eyes.
“I’ve been helping my parents in the restaurant and at home for years, there’s no need for a recipe Mar-Mar,” She said, kissing their cheek and walking to where Sasha had put everything they needed.
“Are you sure about this, Anne?” They said, moving their arms since they now didn’t know what to do.
“Yeah, I also helped my grandma countless times at making cookies, I’m basically an expert,” Sasha joined the conversation. He was handing Anne some of the dry ingredients as the girl was starting to mix them.
“See, you have nothing to worry about, why don’t you prepare the oven darling?” Anne suggested with her back turned, focused on how much flour her guts were telling her to use.
Marcy moved from where they had been standing and walked towards the oven. It was pretty different to the one they had at home. Not that they ever used it, considering their parents rarely let them hang around in the kitchen.
The black haired teen tried to remember all the asmr cooking videos they liked watching whenever they couldn’t sleep, finally being capable of turning the oven on. Content with their actions, they walked back to the same spot they were before, jumping and sitting on the counter.
At the same time as Marcy did all that, Anne and Sasha had accomplished mixing all of the ingredients, only getting a few eggshells into the mixture, but quickly taking them out. Now they only needed to fill one of the molds with the batter. It had taken Anne embarrassingly more time than what she had expected to get the baking paper to stay still at the end of the mold, she only had to make sure she didn’t spill any of the batter out.
Therefore, she needed to concentrate on the task. But of course, how can you concentrate with Marcy and Sasha in the same room?
“Oh No! We forgot to buy the food coloring!” Marcy yelled, jumping from the counter and looking around frantically. Sasha, who had been watching Anne fighting with the baking paper, turned around to stare at Marcy instead.
“No we did not, it’s in the bag Mars,” She said, her voice coming off in a reassuring way as if to try getting the black haired teen to stop pacing anxiously around the kitchen. He walked to where the bag was, still filled with the strawberries and frosting. He looked and looked, the food coloring was nowhere inside the bag. Marcy only sighed more deeply at the scene in front of them.
“Oh no,” They whined in an overexaggerated way, “The cake will be ugly,”
“We still have frosting–”
“The cake will be plain and boring ”
“Marcy”
“Because you don’t want to put beautiful flowers in it, and it will look plain and boring,”
“Oh c’mon now, I’ll let you put your nerd plants in there if that’s what you want,” Sasha exclaimed, lifting his arms and moving them in an equally exaggerated way.
The stupid conversation Anne’s partners were having made her drop some of the batter to the mold, which was dangerously close to the edge of the counter. The mold, with some extra weight now, was unbalanced and fell to the ground. Anne groaned and turned to her lovers.
“Babes, why don’t you both simply go buy some food coloring,” So you stop bickering around and I can actually finish this cake .
“Meh too lazy,”
“Yeah I don’t actually care that much to be honest,”
Anne grabbed some of the batter that had fallen on the counter minutes ago and threw it at them, gaining whines and complaints from both her partners.
“I’m not going to fall for your stupid games Boonchuy, I won’t fight back,” Marcy said in a solemn voice, easily removing the batter from their clothes.
“Oh, but I will,” Sasha repiled, getting the batter off of his face and throwing it back at Anne. Marcy hid behind the fridge as their partners kept going on at their battle, laughs and screams filling the Boonchuy’s kitchen. Since Marcy was standing closest to the oven, they were the first one to catch on to the smell that was coming from it.
“Uhm, the oven smells funky,” They said, knowing that if the house burnt down it was mostly their fault.
Anne stopped on her tracks and ran to the oven, opening it as a big cloud of smoke came out of it. She started coughing as she walked to the garden’s door that was connected to the kitchen, opening it in order to get all the smoke out.
“Why did that even happen, I’ve never seen that much smoke come out of an oven before,” Sasha commented as she fanned the smoke out of her face with her hands.
“It’s a pretty old oven, what can I say,” Anne said, readjusting the buttons that Marcy had previously moved to turn the cake into dust, to say the least. She chose not to mention anything since she saw how her partner looked more embarrassed than anything.
“No shit, but we'll still be able to bake in it right?” Sasha answered and he put his hands on his hips. Anne rolled her eyes at the comment and let out a small huff.
“It’s not that old, you idiot,” She laughed as Sasha made a face.
“Sorry sorry, I didn’t mean it like that– argh let’s just put the damn cake in it already,” He finished, turning to where Anne had been putting the batter into the mold.
And then he saw that said mold was still on the floor.
“We might have to clean that up first,” Anne said from behind Sasha and she heard a soft ‘ no shit ’ from the blonde.
Marcy got closer to both of them, getting the food coloring out of one of their pockets and leaving it on the counter next to the batter.
Sasha turned to them, signaling at Marcy through her eyes to get them to explain themselves. Marcy shrugged their shoulders.
“What?, I wanted to decorate the cake my way, and I got what I wanted, you already agreed Sash,” They said with a grin. Sasha acted offended but laughed nonetheless, getting a kiss from Marcy as an apology.
The batter and mold from the floor was quickly cleaned and Anne even managed to pour the rest of the batter without spilling anything.
With the cake now inside of the oven, the three lovers stood in the middle of the kitchen, the two older ones staring at the cake from the outside of the oven, as if the action would make the cake bake faster.
“What do we do now?,” The black haired one asked.
“You help me clean everything, that’s what,” the brunette answered.
Sasha moved away from the oven, whispering ‘okay’ as he made his way to the second floor.
“I need to go to the bathroom real quick,” He said. But Anne knew better, she quickly walked to where the blonde was, before Sasha could even leave the room and scooped him up.
“No you don’t, you always do the same trick in order to get away with cleaning the dishes,” Anne moved to the living room, dropping Sasha on the sofa and lying flat over her. Marcy watched the scene from the kitchen counter that was facing the living room.
Good thing the Boonchuy’s kitchen was connected with the living room. No walls were going to stop Marcy from watching their partners as they lazily rested by the counter.
Sasha groaned from under Anne. The Thai girl had her head on the blonde’s chest, therefore, part of her hair rested over Sasha’s face. Sasha moved the curls away from her, unconsciously playing with them as he did so, until a thought struck through his mind.
“How did you even manage to lift me up like that, dude?”
“You’re saying that as if you were taller than me or something,” Anne replied with a soft laugh.
“Well, he is a bit taller than you, Anna-Banana,” Marcy added.
“Seriously Mars, you’re pissing me off today,” Anne said, smiling, and threw a pillow at her partner. Marcy laughed and tried avoiding said pillow. They grabbed it from the floor, ready to shoot.
“They prefer me over you, Annie, not so shocking really, I’m pretty awesome,” Sasha joked.
Her laugh was cut by the same pillow Anne threw at Marcy, this time, the pillow hit Sasha right on her face. Blue and hazel eyes turned to Marcy, surprise all over them.
“You little ratte ,” Sasha said. She used all the strength she had to get free from Anne’s grasp and made her way to a now screaming Marcy. Anne readjusted herself on the sofa, enjoying the way her partners ran around like little kids.
Frog , she loved them so much.
Sasha had catched Marcy and was now twirling around with them between her arms. The black haired teen was a mess of giggles as they tried escaping from their partners embrace.
Anne took out her phone and took a few pictures of them. She was so focused on choosing which pics turned out good, that she missed when Sasha had stopped spinning around with Marcy. The blonde seemed distressed and Marcy looked at him with a questioning stare. His eyes were pointing at the oven, and Marcy didn’t have to think twice about it.
“Anne, the oven smells funky, again ,” They said.
The brunette dropped the phone on the sofa and ran to the oven for a second time that day.
“I’m afraid you won’t be able to use those flowers as a decoration today, Mar-mar,” Anne said, taking out a pretty burnt looking cake off the oven.
Marcy let out a sad whine as Sasha wheezed next to them.
“Let’s just call for a pizza or something like that,” The blonde suggested, leaving a peck to Marcy’s lips, “You can decorate it with flowers,”.
Anne sighed, laughing quietly as she thought about how messy her everyday life was next to them. She should’ve known better than to believe she could accomplish baking something with her partners.
At the end of the day, she enjoyed having them by her side. And as she ate pizza with them on her sofa, she knew that that day wasn’t a complete mess after all.
