Chapter 4: PROLOGUE

Chapter Text

Here she was again, standing in front of the place where her life began and ended.

She never thought she would return to Mystic Falls after all these years, but here she was, hoping that she would not get into the same vicious and toxic cycle that that city brought to its inhabitants.

It had been ten years since she had left the town.

After her father's death Lizzie was lost, she was in so much pain and so much anger. She couldn't cope with the drama going on around her, she couldn't find the strength in her to forgive Hope Mikaelson for killing her father.

Rationally she knew that Hope was not in her right mind when she did what she did, she had just lost the love of her life and her humanity. But that wouldn't make her feel any better, it wouldn't take away the image of her father unconscious and bleeding on the ground downtown, it wouldn't take away her father's blood from her hands, it wouldn't take away the look of pity and regret on the doctor's face when he told her and her sister that her father hadn't made it.

Lizzie wanted Hope dead, wanted to look into the eyes of the girl she once called her best friend and kill her, make her suffer a slow and agonizing death, make her feel all the pain the redhead had put her through.

Because for most of her life her father had preferred Hope to her and Josie, but when he finally remembered that he had two other daughters and started acting like a father again, Hope took away from her and Josie the opportunity to have a good relationship with him.

Thanks to Hope Mikaelson she can't call her father and tell him that she met the love of her life, someone she loves for who she is, they took away from her the chance to have her father walk her down the aisle on her and her sister's wedding day. Thanks to Hope, her father would never meet his grandchildren.

Lizzie couldn't do like the rest of the super squad and ignore it.

After all, that's what they always do, Josie turned into a witch version of Orphan, killed two students in cold blood and tried to force a fusion on her. So when they pulled her sister out of her delirium caused by dark magic, all they did was say okay, after all that wasn't Josie, that was the bad magic messing with her head.

Except it wasn't.

Then Hope arrives with her toxic relationship and almost kills them all more than once to save her Hobbit boyfriend. Lizzie more than once wondered if Hope really cared about any of them, because she had no problem throwing them in front of cars more than once when it came to Landon.

She could understand, Hope loved Landon, and would do anything for him. She understood the feeling, after all she had a companion, a wife she would love for eternity.

But Lizzie would never, not even in her darkest moments, trade the life of an innocent person, a friend, a member of her family to save the life of another person she loves.

For someone who said that family was always and forever, Hope could be very hypocritical.

So after her father's funeral, Lizzie packed her bags, took all the money she had, which was no small amount, and left. Lizzie wasn't sure where she was going, she just needed to get away.

The thing is, Lizzie decided to deal with her problems at the bottom of a tequila bottle. For a year she wandered the world like a shadow, letting herself fall into the darkness that lay within her.

She had stopped fighting, Lizzie had always known there was something dark inside her, something dangerous, she knew it could be worse than her Uncle Kai, and during that year Lizzie enjoyed not holding back, being free from restrictions, rules and judgments.

But everything changed for her, when she woke up after a late night hugging a redheaded girl with the most beautiful green eyes she had ever seen.

Chapter 5: CHAPTER I: The Beginning;

Chapter Text

Lizzie sighed as she finished another bottle of whiskey.
It was a third of the night.

It had been a week since Hope Mikaelson had killed her father, and since then she hadn't left her room for anything other than going to the bathroom and drinking more alcohol.

She had barely gotten out of bed, she just didn't have the strength for anything. When she returned to school from the hospital, she was covered in tears and her father's blood, she remembers rubbing her arms until they were raw, until all traces of her father's blood had left her body.

And for the rest of the week, she spent crying until her tear tubes ran dry.

And here she was now, drunk, her arms bandaged and completely numb.

She didn't feel anything anymore.

Between crying nonstop and drinking until she passed out, Lizzie at some point stopped feeling everything, she felt empty, as if all the progress she'd made in the last year to be a better person, to have the mental stability she'd always wanted. had been shattered to pieces.

Her sister Josie didn't take long to come out of her grief, they had barely seen each other, the last time was when Josie came to talk to her about her not going to her father's funeral, Josie fought and screamed and Lizzie just stayed silent, she didn't have the heart to go and see as they put her father in a box and buried him seven feet from the ground.

Her mother and MG tried to talk to her several times, but when they saw that Lizzie wasn't going to open her mouth, that she was barely listening to what they had to say, they decided to leave her alone.

She didn't want to hear about how it would hurt less with time, about how her father wouldn't want her to stay that way, about how her father would want them to help Hope turn her humanity back on.

Lizzie scoffed.

She didn't care about Hope, she could go to hell for all she cared about. If Landon were still alive she would kill him just out of revenge, just to make Hope feel the same pain as she did.

But unfortunately, the Hobbit had already kicked off.

Lizzie thinks she's finally broken, and this time she has no fix. All her life she felt like a vase that was broken and glued back together piece by piece every time, but with each fall the vase broke more and more, the pieces got smaller with each fall so there was always a little piece missing here and there that there was no way to glue it back and it was always lost, but now Lizzie was sure this vase couldn't be glued again.

Lizzie had had enough of so many things.

Lizzie couldn't take the pain anymore, for as long as Lizzie remembers she's only known pain and hopelessness. She was sure she'd done something terrible in some past life for the universe to hate her, maybe she'd given in to her dark side and her impulses and now she was paying for her mistakes.

She couldn't take the uncertainty anymore, when would all this end? When would she finally have peace? Her life would be like this now, always one struggle after another, her mental problems, her problems with her parents and sister, the monsters, Hope without humanity.

These were supposed to be the golden years, these were supposed to be the years she would enjoy before her fated death. Since she found out about the fusion she had decided to enjoy life as much as she could for the next six years, she started to take better care of herself, continued with therapy, went back to psychotherapy, went back to taking each of her medication, gave up self-harm and looked for better ways to deal with her anger and her self-punishing instincts whenever she did something wrong, started trying to be a better sister, daughter, and friend

But what was the point now?

Her father had been signed by her best friend, and the worst part was that Hope wasn't the only one to blame, they all had a share in the blame, even if indirectly.

They put so much faith in Hope that they followed her almost blindly, after all, she was the hero, the almighty tribrid, the only one who could defeat Malivore, and the only one who had to make the sacrifice and kill her own boyfriend for the greater good. , after all, that was one life for millions of others.

Even though Lizzie was hating Hope right now, she had to give it to her, she had the guts because if Lizzie had been in her shoes, she would have let Malivore turn the world to ash.

Lizzie just wanted it to be over, just wanted to wallow in her pain in peace, she just wanted to stop pretending, she wanted to fall into the well of darkness that was her soul for the first time and not cares what people thought of her.

But she couldn't do it anyway, she would need to change first.

Lizzie's plan was simple, albeit a bit far-fetched, she had taken all her stuff and all her savings put them in the car, and driven as far away from Mystic Falls as possible, she had put a concealment spell on herself and her car to that neither of them would be tracked in any way, whether magical or not, she turned off her cell phone tracker and drove until she couldn't take it anymore.

Lizzie was staying at a cheap motel, if she can call that joint that cheap after driving nearly two days to Charlottesville, stopping only for gas and groceries at the gas station convenience stores.

She couldn't afford to go on without solving her life once and for all.

She had decided that she would take vampire blood and then take her own life.

The reason behind this decision was simple: Josie.

Lizzie knew it was only a matter of time before she or Josie had to die and become a heretic, and it was only fair that she was, after all, Josie deserved the chance to grow old and have children, to die naturally more than she did.

She can never say I'm selfish again after that she thought Lizzie in resignation as she stepped into the bathtub of the room she was staying in.

Lizzie was at a cheap motel after driving nearly two days to Charlottesville, stopping only for gas and groceries at the gas station convenience stores.

Lizzie sighed as she looked at the vial of vampire blood in her hands, it was what her mother had given her in case there was an emergency.

Come on, Elizabeth, it's now or never, she's done with it, it's going to be one less worry in her life, in her mother's life, in Josie's life, the blonde thought to herself.

(Music: Dark On Me - STARSET)

There's no hate, there's no love
Only dark skies, that hang above
I call your name as I walk alone
Send a signal to guide me home

Lizzie closed her eyes as she took all the blood from the vial.
She took one last breath, her last breath like a living person, before diving into the tub.

light the night up
You're my dark star
And now you're falling away

Lizzie could feel her airways filling up with water with each passing minute, the air gasping, as her brain slowly shut down.

But I found in you, what was lost in me
In a world so cold and empty
I could lie awake, just to watch you breathe
In the dead of night, you went dark on me

Lizzie could see her whole life playing through her mind like a movie, she always thought when people said live your whole life before your eyes before you died was an exaggeration, but here she was, thinking of every single person that she loves, every bit of happiness she had, every mistake, every episode, every monster she faced whether it was the ones that lived in her mind or the ones that Malivore sent.

You're the cause the antidote
The sinking ship, that I couldn't let go
You led my way, then disappear
How could you just walk away and leave me here

She thought of her mother and the comforting hugs she gave.

light the night up
You're my dark star
And now you're falling away

She thought of the pain she felt because her mother was countries away from her.

But I found in you, what was lost in me

She thought of her father, of how he always made up the best bedtime stories for her and Josie and always made them smile.

In a world so cold and empty
I could lie awake
Just to watch you breathe
In the dead of night, you went dark on me

She thought of the pain of her mostly absent father present at the same time, of the pain she felt whenever her father and Hope lived together.

Blinded, I can't do this on my own
You're all I've got to guide me home

She thought of his blood on her hands, of the doctor saying he wasn't coming back.

I could lie awake
Just to watch you breathe
In the dead of night, you went dark on me

And above she thought of Josie.

Your heart and soul.

She thought of all the smiles, hugs, jokes, talking, and fighting.

She thought of her love for her and how she was doing it so that she would have a chance to live and be happy and have everything Lizzie always knew she couldn't have.

dark on me
dark on me
dark on me
dark on me
dark on me

She thought about how she knew her sister would hate her for taking away her option, for not saying goodbye.

And as she took her last breath, as the darkness took over completely, Lizzie felt free for the first time in her life.

I could lie awake
Just to watch you breathe
In the dead of night, you went dark on me
