It’s More Than Just a Dress

Summary:

Butters realises how much he really liked being Marjorine, and how much he really hated being Butters

----

If you're here for the Style tag: That stuff is only later on in the story and it's just a subplot. Sorry!!
Yes, this story is Marjorine x Wendy. It's a rare pair I've been obsessed with and I haven't seen anyone else shipping it :,)

Notes:

This is really impulse. First chapter is kind of slow. It’s all based off of S9 E9 “Marjorine” so it takes place directly after that. I swear chapters 2 and 3 will be more action-packed :]

Chapter 1: Slumber Party

Chapter Text

Butters felt funny.

Well, funny was one way of putting it. He agreed to let Cartman and his friends fake his death, dress him up all lady-like, and steal a future telling device they apparently ended up destroying. He ended up missing around a week of school while his parents, well, recovered. It was his first day back and Butters had certainly earned the strange looks he got from his classmates.

Butters sat down at his desk, Cartman faked a poorly executed gasp, “Oh wowww Butters! We thought you killed yourself!” He exclaimed in an overly animated tone. Kyle rolled his eyes and looked the other way. Butters fiddled with his hands, “Y-Yea, well, uh, I’m back-“

“That’s great, Butters, Cartman. Now shut up and listen-“ Ms Garrison interrupted, seemingly unphased by the return of his dead student. Cartman gave Butters a thumbs up and turned his head forward towards Ms Garrison. Butters continued looking around the class, noticing quite a few annoyed looks from the girls.

The bell rang and class ended, Butters struggled to undo the lock on his locker. From the corner of his eye, he saw Heidi approaching him with a scowl on her face. Butters took a deep breath and turned around.

“Heyyy Heidi-“

“You crashed my slumber party, cried when we called your wig ugly, and stole a folded piece of notebook paper.” Heidi furrowed her brow, “Why?” Her stern tone made Butters freeze. He hated when people talked to him like that. Even though it was usually his dad who spoke to him that way, and even then he deserved it.

“Well- Eric found out you girls could tell the future with a device, and so he sent me on in there to go get it-“

“That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. I’m not allowed to have another sleepover for a month now, thanks a lot.” Heidi huffed and stormed off, leaving Butters wallowing in a sense of guilt. He didn’t mean to ruin the party, really, it was pretty fun.

He enjoyed being Marjorine, he wouldn’t mind doing that again. Marjorine made Butters feel… free? Butters almost wished he hadn’t messed everything up at the sleepover. No, he definitely wished he hadn’t. Heidi wasn’t having any more slumber parties any time soon, and if she was he clearly wasn’t invited, so maybe he could ask one of the other girls?

Butters closed his locker and began walking down the hall. Cartman ran up to him from behind, “Hey, Butters, I saw you talking to Heidi.”

“Yea, she’s pretty angry with me for messin up her party.”

Cartman put a hand on Butter’s shoulder, “You took one for the team, Butters, we were able to destroy the device.”

Butters brushed Cartman’s hand off, “Yea, well, I don’t get why it’s always gotta be me, Eric! Cause now all the girls are mad at me, I think!” He exclaimed. He rarely used a tone with Cartman, typically out of fear. He didn’t want his parents to turn into chilli. Cartman scoffed and smiled,

“They’re just a bunch of dumb chicks, dude, who cares if they’re pissed off?”

“W-Well I care! I don’t want them all to be angry with me, and I don’t want to be used as a scapegoat in your crazy ideas!” Butters shut himself up. Cartman crossed his arms and began to raise his voice,

“Fine, Butters, go play dress up with the girls! You don’t need to be involved in our super cool guy plans!” Cartman muttered something under his breath and left the scene. Apparently Cartman’s voice had attracted a lot of attention, and various students, including many of the girls, watched the argument.

“Oh hamburgers...” Butters muttered to himself. The crowd began to dispearce, leaving just a few bystanders, one of them being Wendy Testaburger. Butters looked away as Wendy approached him. She didn’t sport the same annoyed look at the other girls, her expression had changed to be more neutral.

“I have a lot of questions.”

“I guess that makes sense-“

“We already know you’re Marjorine, but if it was just one of Cartman’s stupid plots, why’d you get so hurt when we…” she paused, “said all those things.”

“Well, uh, I dunno, I guess I liked being Marjorine. I liked the sleepover, too, and hanging out with all you girls.” Butters stammered, Wendy was probably still angry at him for messing everything up, reasonably so. He was angry at himself for the same reason. “I was having lots of fun, I was hoping maybe we could all hang out again sometime-“ That was stupid. A stupid idea. Why would he say that? “-but I get it if you don’t wanna, since I don’t think Heidi likes me anymore.”

Wendy studied Butters, he fiddled with his hands and awaited an answer. “I’m all for second chances, and we were a little mean to you, so this can be my apology.” Wendy half smiled, “Bebe is having a sleepover next week. I can ask her about you.”

“Thanks, Wendy, for being all understanding.” Butters smiled, he knew this wasn’t a definite ‘yes’, but it was way better than a no. Wendy shrugged, “No problem, feel free to dress up as Marjorine again!”

The funny feeling started to go away, replaced by an odd sense of joy.
