Chapter Text
“There’s the face I’ve been waiting all week to see!”
Tim rolls his eyes as Kon’s face comes into view once their connection settles. “I know you have plenty of pictures of me Kon, look at those if you’re that desperate.” Tim teases him, a smirk playing on his lips.
Kon playfully pouts at him. “They don’t beat the real thing though! Plus I can’t hear pictures, I want to listen to your voice as much as I want to see your face.”
“How poetic Kon.” Tim muses.
“You could at least pretend to be excited to see me too y’know. There wasn’t even a ‘Kon, my most amazing boyfriend, how have you been, I’ve missed you so much!”
Tim sends Kon an unimpressed look at the high-pitched tone of voice he used to impersonate him. “I don’t talk like that. Or sound like that!”
“Whatever dude, just saying you could be nicer to me after not speaking to each other for nearly two weeks.”
Tim sighs then, feeling slightly guilty for his behaviour and because it’s mostly been his fault they haven’t been able to speak until now. “Sorry Kon,” he apologises before continuing, “anyway hi, I have missed you and I’m sorry it’s just been so busy here and by the time I get home I’m exhausted. I practically collapse on my bed the moment I walk into my bedroom.”
Kon’s expression softens, losing the playful edge he had been showing moments ago. “Hey, don’t worry about it. It’s not entirely your fault, it’s just our schedules haven’t aligned until now. I hope you’re resting, and I mean properly resting, in between work and everything else. You still look tired.”
Running a hand over his face Tim throws his head back dramatically as he groans. “It’s been non-stop for days. People expecting things of me and I’m running around like a headless chicken making sure everyone is doing their jobs so I can do my mine!” He sits back up right and frowns into the camera to show Kon how he’s feeling.
Kon, the bastard, laughs. “What did you expect taking on a big project like that while you work practically fulltime too?”
“You’re right, what was I expecting? Why did I think it was a good idea to create a social foundation to help at risk teenagers on the streets on Gotham.”
“Because you care about people and want to help in any way you can. How is it going by the way, will it be ready soon?”
“There are still things to be figured out, like budgets and rota systems and things like that. It’s slowly getting there though, thanks for asking.”
Tim smiles at Kon, feeling appreciative towards his boyfriend who’s taken an interest in his projects when he doesn’t have to. Tim likes to talk about his work and Kon never seems to tire from hearing speak about it, it’s one of the many things he loves about him.
“Enough about me.” Tim declares, he straightens up in his seat and looks at Kon through the camera. “How are you? How have things been on the farm and with Ma and Pa?”
Kon shrugs nonchalantly. “Well I’m no way near as busy as you are but things are good. Ma and Pa are alright. The farms good, we’ve nearly harvested everything now, I’ve been to several different farmers markets to sell produce and whatnot. But yeah, a day at a time kind of thing.”
Tim frowns as Kon talks. He’s glad to hear things are alright but his boyfriend sounds kind of distant and bland as he speaks, like he’s grown bored in what he’s doing on a regular basis.
“Are you okay Kon?” Tim asks feeling a little concerned.
Kon raises an eyebrow at the emphasis of the question. “Yeah I’m fine, why?”
“You just seem a little… off, that’s all. You know you can talk to me right? I know I’m not there but you can always message me whenever you need to, I’ll always do my best to answer straight away.”
“I know Tim and you know I greatly appreciate that.” Kon smiles at him. “In fact there is something I want to tell you, I’ve been thinking about it for a while and even Ma has mentioned it once or twice now.”
When he doesn’t elaborate Tim gently nudges him, wanting him to open up. “What is it?”
“Ma’s been saying that I’ve been rather gloomy since we got back from our trip. Despite being home now for nearly six weeks, she says I haven’t really been the same since returning. She’s suggested that I try and do something more with my time than just farming, despite how insistent I am that I’m happy with the farm work she’s been encouraging me to enrol in some online courses. To start maybe looking at getting a degree or qualification in something.”
Tim perks up at that. “Really? I think that’s a great idea, it’ll give you other things to think about and change up your day.”
On his screen, Kon looks unsure. Not accepting that Tim tries his best to reassure his boyfriend. “Kon it’ll be okay. You can look into different things, see what options there are to choose from, there’s no rush for you to make a decision.”
“Well that’s the thing, I may have already decided on something…”
“Oh?”
“Yeah. I’m looking into journalism actually. Cliché, I know because of my dad, but while he does the news and stuff I was thinking about going into sport. I used to play football back in school so I could try and go down that road. There’s a course I found which I like the look of and at the end if you perform well there’s a chance of getting an internship.”
“That's amazing Kon! If you like the look of it and if there could be a job at the end of it, I say go for it.” Tim wants the best for Kon and if his boyfriend wants to do this then he’s going to support him the entire way.
Kon gives him a little grin, looking more confident than before. “Thank you. I haven’t decided yet but once I do I’ll let you know.”
“Please do. How exciting!”
“Yeah sure,” Kon deadpans with a shake on his head. He blinks at Tim through their screens. “So outside of work what’s been going on?”
Tim thinks about this for a moment, trying to decide on what to catch Kon up on first as it’s been a few weeks since they last properly spoke to one another. He grins almost manically after choosing something. “You’ll never believe what happened to Damian last week…”
