Chapter 1: Chenford

Chapter Text

Tim phone buzzed as he walked out of the Station to his truck and glanced at the caller ID, he frowned seeing Tamara's name. He could count on one hand the number of times she had called him, texted frequently but calling was not her style.

He answered on the third buzz, “Tam’ everything okay?”

“Tim,” Tamara's voice was soft almost a whisper like she was trying to make sure no one overhead the call.

The hair on the back of his neck rose as he reached his truck, “What’s wrong, are you hurt, are you safe?” His questions came out rapid fire as he climbed in to the cab.

If someone so much as touched a hair on his girl’s head he would make sure they never, NEVER did it again.

“I’m fine Sargent Zaddy.” She told him easing some of his tension with the stupid but endearing nickname. “It’s Lucy.”

With that sentence the tension ratcheted back up and his pulse throbbed in his ears.

“What happened?” He snapped out.

“Lucy did trail prep today…with Chris and…,” She trailed off.

Tim was confused, she was dating the idiot ADA, he should not be the one doing her trial prep it was a conflict.

He shook his head, “ What happened?”

“That asshole was making coffee in the break room, Lucy and I were talking and then….then he….”

“Tamara,  please just tell me, sweetheart.” Tim could tell she was upset her voice still soft but full of anger and sadness.

Tamara sighed, “He started humming, humming that fucking song Tim.”

No, no, no she could not be talking about the song he though she was because that would be vile. The song echoed in Tim’s mind for a second and a wave of nausea hit him.

“What song?” He asked but in his gut he knew.

“The one Lucy sang in the barrel,” the girl choked out on a sniffle.

Tim was going to gut the son of a bitch, why would he hum that fucking song.

Tamara continued, “he said it was stuck in his head from watching the video and apologized but Tim how could he….get THAT song stuck in his head.”

“I don’t know but I’m going to find the fuck out.”

“Tim, you can’t do anything to him!”

She was right of course but that didn’t mean he couldn’t have a conversation, a very angry conversation with the man.

Look at the clock he noted that the ADA was probably still in the office and turned the truck over and headed in the direction of the offices.

“Just going to have a conversation with him no blood shed,” hopefully, if he could keep himself  in check.

“Lucy need you, Tim and so do I so you can’t land yourself in jail.”

Tim’s heart fluttered, his girls needed him and as much as he may want to hurt the ADA, he wouldn’t for them.

“I promise, I will not end up in jail.”

“There is one more thing,” Tamara said.

Tim closed his eyes for a second and sighed feeling like the other shoe was about to drop. “What is it?”

“She wanted to watch the video and he let her.”

He almost swerved in to on coming traffic but righted the truck. “Is she okay?”

“I don’t know she went in to her room when we came home and hasn’t come out.”

Tim pulled off the street in to the offices and killed his truck and thought for a second.

“Knock on her door tell her, I have to pull overtime and need someone to look after Kojo. Let yourselves in and let her cuddle with our dog it will help, there’s cash in the jar in the kitchen, you know the one. Order food and ill be home in a little bit.” If they were in his house it would make him feel better and Lucy could have the dog on his damn couch he didn’t care at this moment.

“What if she says no.”

“She won’t,” he replied confidently, he knew Lucy far to well.

“Okay, but really don’t kill him, please.” She said before ending the call.

Tim got out of the truck and made his way in to the office, taking the stairs quickly.

The office was mostly empty and he cursed under his breath making his way to Sanford’s office happy-ish to see the light on through the mostly closed door.

Tim pushed the door open without knocking and Sanford looked up at his in surprise.

“Officer Bradford?” he questioned.

Tim gritted his teeth, “It’s Sargent.”

Chris looked flustered for a second before nodding, “Sorry Sargent, what can I do for you?”

This guy had to be an idiot if he didn’t know why he was there.

Tim stepped forward and stopped in front of the desk. “You don’t know why I’m here,” Tim asked with a raised eyebrow.

Chris visibly swallowed, “I made a mistake.”

Tim silenced the man, slamming his hand down on the desk and leaning towards him. “A mistake is forgetting your fucking keys, not humming a fucking song that Lucy sang when she was dying.”

“Sargent I’m aware and I have apologized to Lucy for my…insensitivity.”

Tim had never wanted to hurt anyone like this since Caleb but the ADA now second on that list.

“Insensitivity?” he scoffed.

“Lucy almost died, hell she did, I literally had to breathe life back in to her,” he paused. “Yet that song that horrible song gets stuck in your thick head.”

The only time he had heard that song after the barrel he had been physically sick, yet this asshole could hum it.

“Look Sargent, this is between Lucy and I and she understands it was an accident.” Chis said as if it would end the conversation.

Tim shook his head, “It hurt my girls so it’s not just between you and Lucy.”

“Your girls?” The ADA looked at him with a glare. “Last I checked I was dating Lucy and as for Tamara isn’t she a little young.” Chris looked smug and Tim wanted to hit him.

“Not for long,” Tim muttered too low for the ADA  to hear.

“If you ever imply that I would touch Tamara in a sexual way, I will not continue being as nice as I am.” The idea of him being intimate with Tamara in any way made him feel ill, hell anyone being with Tamara made him ill, she was just a kid….well not really but she was his girl.

“Regardless, it’s between me and Lucy.”

“Yeah tell Lucy that and see her response,” he sneered.

“What is that suppose to mean, that she’ll take your side? You’re just her coworker.”

Tim laughed, “you are temporary, Lucy, Tamara and me we're family.”

Chris glared again, “I think you should leave Sargent.”

Part of him wanted to stay to yell and rail a bit more but then he remembered one thing, his girl were in his home by now.

Tim shot him a smirk, “yeah I probably should, my girl’s are waiting on me to come home.”

“Lucy isn’t your girl and her home isn’t yours!” this time Chris yelled stepping around his desk to get in the Sargent’s face.

He didn’t let to get to him, he realized in that second he was truly right, Chris was temporary. Lucy may be dating the guy but in the end she was truly family and she wouldn’t leave him, Tamara or Kojo.

“Oh she is, she and Tamara are currently cuddled up on my couch in MY house with our dog.” Without looking back Tim walked away not letting the man get another word in.
