Work Text:

Tommy and Wilbur were flying home from getting supplies in a storm.

It's never a good idea to fly in the rain for it can damage your wings and it's harder to see.

Thunderstorms often result in death for avians.

They knew this but they had been gone for far too long and Phil was getting worried.

Tommy and Wilbur were soaked and cold, trying their hardest to see two feet In front of them. As they flew over what seemed to be a never ending forest.

Wilbur could feel something was off, a gut feeling that something bad was going to happen. He pushed through, keeping a close eye on Tommy.

The rain came down harder and lightning was seen in the distance, slowly inching closer to the two brothers.

The world was dark and cruel, trying to throw them off course, mobs shooting at them from below, rain making them shiver to the core. Unforgiving.

Tommy is tired, Wilbur can tell but they can't stop now, not when they are so close to home. So close to being with their family again.

"Keep up Tommy, we're not far now" Wilbur has to shout to be heard over the pounding rain and earth crumbling thunder.

Tommy starts to fly under Wilbur to get some protection from the rain, he isn't as skilled at flying as his older brother. The weather isn't in his favor either.

At least they're not alone. They have each other.

For as long as Tommy could remember Wilbur was always there for him. When things got bad he was always the person he would go to for help.

When Tommy was learning how to fly Wilbur was the main person teaching him.

Philza thought it would be a good bonding experience for them and he was often busy with other things anyways.

One day while training Tommy didn't land correctly and broke his leg, Wilbur was more panicked than Tommy.

Wilbur was mama birding him for weeks after that bringing him food, not letting Tommy get up for anything till he was better.

Over the years they formed a bond unlike any other, if you had one brother, you had the other.

Another strike of lightning caught the two off guard, crashing through the night sky.

In the far distance Wilbur can see the torches Phil placed around their land.

Home

"Tommy I can see the house" He looks down at his younger brother, Tommy gives him a thumbs up. But, Wilbur still feels off, home is right there, why does he feel bad?

Wilbur feels energy flowing through him and static on his skin. Phil has told him about getting hit with lightning, and this isn't good.

Wilbur then thinks to his brother, Tommy could get hurt if he is too close. If the worst is about to happen, Wilbur would rather only him get injured.

"Tommy dive now!" Voice filled with panic, Tommy looks up and sees Wilbur for just a second before diving down into the trees.

He couldn't see how close the ground was before it was too late.

It wasn't a soft landing, no, it was harsh and jagged. He hit every branch on the way down, twisting every which way, getting cuts and bruises all over.

Then,
The loudest thunder clap of them all.
The night sky was brighter than the sun.
The ground shook under him.

Tommy flinched and went to cover his ears but was met with a pain he had never felt before, he cries out in pain.

Tommy's ears were ringing, His body cold and hurt, and his eyes couldn't focus. He couldn't move his wings, bones would grind against each other and pain traveled through his body.

His head hurt more then it ever had before, as if someone had slammed his head against obsidian a thousand times over.

He saw something fall through the trees, a black figure landing on the ground in a clearing not far from where he sat.

At first Tommy thought it was a mob, that's when Tommy realized, his brother isn't in the sky. The figure lied unmoving in the grass, Tommy prayed to XD that it isn't what he thinks.

Slowly he gets up from where he sat, shaky from rain and pain, Trudging over to what might be his brother.

His heart races the closer he gets, each step being more painful than the last.

He's a few feet away when he realizes, that's Wilbur. Unmoving on the ground, letting the rain beat on his back and wings.

"...wilb-r?" Tommy's voice is barely louder than a whisper, not even a mouse would have heard him.

Tears form at the corner of his eyes as he falls to the ground next to his brother, he placed a shaky hand on Wilbur's back.

His brother is faced away from him, Tommy isn't sure if he's still alive, he tries to look for a pulse, the rain beat and the pounding in Tommy's head making it impossible to find.

The rain has gotten warmer, or that's the tears and blood flowing down Tommy's face. Not that he would notice the difference, he hasn't even noticed he started hyperventilating.

He starts to shake Wilbur, shouting at him to wake up till his voice gives out, it hurts. His head is throbbing, his body is exhausted, and his mind is panicked.

Tommy starts to sob, not yelling anymore, just laying on his brother, crying. Not able to get a single dry breath

He's not gone, he's not gone, he's not gone

He doesn't hear techno and Phil run through the trees to them.

He doesn't hear when his father asks what happened.

He doesn't feel techno pull him off Wilbur.

All he can focus on his that his brother is gone.

He opens his eyes to see Wilbur laying on his back and techno doing everything in his power to save Wilbur.

Tommy is leaned against Phil's chest being held up, he's too unstable to stand alone. Still crying and trying to talk to his brother.

Through the tears, rain, and blood he sees techno hesitantly look up to Phil and shake his head. hes never seen his older brother look this vulnerable.

Tommy can't handle this anymore, his world has fallen apart in seconds.

Wilbur, you can't leave, not yet, there's still so much, so many things that were never said. So many people still need you.

I need you.

different emotions running rampant through Tommy's mind.

Black dots start to fill Tommy's vision. Flying miles then crashing into the ground at frightening speeds does something to ones body.

Before the darkness closes in on him he looks at his brother for what might be the last time, he's laying on his back, large brown wings spread on the wet ground. You could almost say, For that small moment,

he looked peaceful.
