His Prince

Summary:

Peek-a-boo with Fluffy Bunny isn't the only children's book Papyrus likes.

Since I wrote this before I realised Flowey's age, please consider this an AU where he's an adult.

Notes:

Hey Deredere!
Remember when we talked about Papyrus liking princes from his books? Well I wrote this and it's finally time to post it!

Work Text:

Before they’d found Fluffy Bunny, he’d had other books. For a long while, his favourite had been a book of fairy tales.

Sans had read all of them to him multiple times, but the best had been the last one, The Frog Prince. About a princess and a prince breaking a curse and getting married.

“DOES THE UNDERGROUND HAVE A PRINCE?” He’d asked after Sans finished it for the third time.

Sans smirked at him. “nah paps, but if i find one i’ll be sure to ask him out for you”

He’d laughed, and tried to play it off as a joke, but still… maybe one day he could marry a prince.

~*~

A few years later, he met Flowey, his new best friend.

And Flowey was great!

Well, he was rude about Sans, but still, he was nice to him.

They did puzzles together and made spaghetti.

And he told Flowey about his dreams, about how he wanted to capture a human and join the royal guard so everyone would love him.

Flowey giggled and winked at him. “I already love you Papyrus.”

He was joking, right?

Right?

It had to be a joke.

There was no way Flowey would love him like that, right?

~*~

“I’m the prince.” Flowey told him one day. And he smiled.

“NYEH HEH! I HAD NO IDEA I WAS FRIENDS WITH ROYALTY!”

His friend looked a bit annoyed at that. “I’m serious Papyrus. I was the prince, before I died.”

“I KNOW, FLOWEY. BUT IT DOESN’T MATTER WHO YOU WERE, THE GREAT PAPYRUS WILL ALWAYS BE YOUR FRIEND!”

And that’s what they were.

Friends.

Best friends.

Just friends.

Yet still, part of him wondered if he really could marry a prince like he’d once dreamed.

A few days later, he met a human, and everyone went to the Surface, but he couldn’t find Flowey among them.

~*~

They’d been hanging out so much recently, and Flowey didn’t seem to like anyone else here.

But they had so much fun together!

Maybe it was time to give his dream one last shot.

“HEY FLOWEY?”

His friend looked up at him, a puzzled expression on his face “Yeah Papyrus?”

He stroked Flowey’s petals, that always seemed to soothe the little flower. “I LOVE YOU.”

He’d expected it, but it didn’t make the shock on Flowey’s face hurt any less.

~*~

He’d kissed Flowey so many times now, and he hadn’t changed back into the prince of monsters.

But that didn’t matter.

He was already Papyrus’ prince.
