Work Text:

the very first time izuku saw katsuki’s smile, his stunning, beautiful, adorable smile, he was sure that his heart skipped a beat.

it wasn’t like the little satisfied smirks the blonde would give when they were kids, no. this was a full on smile - teeth showing and eyes gleaming - this was a real, sincere smile. a true smile.

-

it was a friday afternoon and the boys had decided to go on a two and a half hour training spree, for no reason other than the fact that they were bored.

they both ended up extremely tired from the gruesome training of the day and had decided to go out and get food, katsuki insisted that it would be his treat, and who was izuku to decline something like that?

“wow kacchan! taking me out to dinner, huh?” izuku smiled, bumping into katsuki while they walked

“shut the fuck up deku, you’re lucky i’m even paying,” katsuki grumbled and izuku laughed

“what’s so funny!?!”

“i’m sorry kacchan, it’s hard to explain,” izuku said, but the gleam in his eyes and the small smile on his face suggested that he knew exactly how to explain it.

“what the hell is that supposed to mean!?!”

and izuku just laughed to himself, the pair continuing their walk down the street to the restaurant.

it was the same restaurant they always went to when they went out just the two of them. they liked it there, the food had tasted the same as it has when they were kids. it was nostalgic, and they liked that.

they’d walk in and sit, at the same table by the window they always did. they didn’t mind, they liked it that way, ordering the same food they always did, sitting at the same table they always did. they were the same people they always were, and they liked that. they liked it a lot.

the only thing that did change though, were the conversations. but, much like today, they almost always had something to do with all might.

-

“did you see him?!?” izuku exclaimed, “he was like boom! pow! boom!” the teen was using his arms to express himself. and katsuki took note of how his eyes lit up, and how he always had a certain glow about him whenever he talked about anything that interested him.

instead of replying. he’d nod his head and eat his pasta before looking back up at izuku to let him know it was okay to continue.

“i don’t know kacchan, it’s just, i never thought i’d meet him in real life. he’s just so cool!!! and amazing!!” it was like izuku couldn’t ever contain his excitement. and as much as he didn’t wanna admit it, katsuki loved seeing him like that.

he wouldn’t trade izuku’s smile and bright eyes for the world. he knew then in that moment that he wouldn’t, for he loved them too much.

he looked up, mesmerized by the boy’s voice, and flashed izuku with maybe the prettiest smile he had ever seen in his life.

in the moment it left izuku speechless, and blushing in his bed later that night.

-

the second time katsuki “smiled”, well, it wasn’t something that izuku would normally classify as a smile. but since it was katsuki he figured he could let it slide.

the pair was at the park close to their childhood homes. as they had both decided to visit their parents on the same day they figured it wouldn’t hurt to go visit the park.

“remember when we used to play heroes at this park?” katsuki chuckled lightly

izuku noticed he had a different, more solemn look about him but instead of saying anything he smiled softly and nodded his head.

they sat on the swings and rocked back and forth in silence.

“how’s inko?” katsuki asked and izuku smiled

“she doing well,” he said confidently, “she misses you”

it was true, katsuki hadn’t gone to see her in forever.

“let’s go to your house then, i mean we have all day” katsuki hoisted himself off the old swing and grabbed izuku’s hand, pulling him along.

“i guess we can,” izuku replied, rolling his eyes with mock sarcasm.

-

the pair walked side by side, izuku “accidentally” bumping into katsuki

“what the hell?!?” katsuki snapped and izuku laughed

“what nerd!? you can’t fucking walk straight?”

izuku broke down laughing, he couldn’t contain himself anymore. he thought the look on katsuki’s face was priceless.

he grabbed the blonde’s arm and walked whilst holding onto it.

“you can help me kacchan!” izuku looked up at katsuki and started laughing again. it was probably one of izuku’s worst attempts at trying to cover up the fact that he wanted to hold katsuki’s hand. but it was working, and for that, he didn’t mind.

the whole encounter left katsuki’s face red, from anger or from blush? izuku didn’t and never would know.

but, it was safe to say izuku continued holding katsuki’s arm for the duration of their walk.

-

when they got to izuku’s house inko came rushing to the front door, overjoyed.

she looked at katsuki and started smiling. izuku took that as his cue to head out, as the interaction was never his to watch.

“katsuki!! you’ve grown so much!”

“how’s the hero course treating you?”

“how’s izuku been acting, has he been getting into trouble lately?”

“what about you? have you been getting into trouble lately?”

“and why haven’t you come to see me! i missed you like i missed my own son.”

then she went in to give katsuki a hug, just as izuku was coming out of the kitchen with three cups of tea in his hands.

“i’ve got te-”

the teen looked up to see katsuki hugging inko with a soft, contented half-smile on his face.

and then he dropped the tea.

-

the third time izuku witnessed katsuki’s smile, he was blown away

it was saturday and everyone had gone away for the weekend, everyone expect him and katsuki.

but, katsuki had been holed up in his room since friday afternoon and izuku was sooooo bored.

he decided that it would be best to force katsuki out of his room by banging on the door until the blonde got annoyed and opened it.

it was a crazy idea, sure, but at that point izuku was getting desperate. he would’ve done anything to see katsuki.

“please kacchannnnn, come out of your roommm”

and an hour later

“kacchannnnn come onnnn”

another hour

“kacchan,” izuku was sniffling, trying to give off the effect he was crying, “please just come out already”

this went on for three more hours until the next time izuku went to bang on the door katsuki opened it.

“kacchan!! you’re out!” izuku smiled sweetly at him.

“deku, what the fuck do you want”

“do you wanna go somewhere with me? it’s so boring being here all by myself,” izuku pleaded and katuski seemed to be considering something in his head.

it took him a second to answer, “i suppose we could go see that new movie that came out”

“kacchan are you suggesting a trip to the mall right now?”

“shut the hell up deku, and give me a second to get dressed”

the teen nodded his head as katsuki shut his room door and as soon as it clicked shut izuku was rushing down the hallway to his room.

what was he gonna wear?

was it a date?

of course it wasn’t a date, if it was a date kacchan would’ve said that.

right?

-

about twenty minutes later, izuku was sitting on the common room couch when katsuki walked out.

“come on deku!” he yelled, already at the door.

“wha- kacchan the movie doesn’t start for another hour!!”

but izuku found himself wandering to the door anyway.

the door was left halfway open, and when izuku walked out he found katsuki already halfway down the path.

“come on deku, we’re gonna miss the fucking train”

so, izuku shut the door and started running. not only to catch up with katsuki, but to catch the train as well.

-

they made it on the train just barely, they had gotten lucky and there was a line of people getting on before they got there.

they sat, knee to knee, pinkies touching on the side of them. but neither of them moved, the sway of the train making izuku lean onto katsuki or vice versa. but neither of them minded, it wasn’t like anyone from school could see them. they were fine.

if anyone did see them though, they would tell a simply story. the train was packed and there was no where else for them to sit.

but katsuki and izuku both knew even if the train wasn’t packed, they wouldn’t have had it any other way.

-

they got the the mall about twenty minutes before the previews started.

“kacchannnnnnn why did we come so early” izuku whined

if they had taken the train that came thirty minutes later they wouldn’t have to watch the previews - izuku hates them - but when izuku decided to go with katsuki he had already known the consequences.

because that’s how katsuki was and always had been. every single time the pair went to see a movie katsuki was early. he loved the previews - he always had and he always will.

izuku never knew why katuski liked them so much, but he wouldn’t trade it for the world.

-

surprisingly, the pair did not go to the movie straight away as katsuki started walking a different direction than the theater.

“wha- kacchan? where are we going”

“shut up nerd, and come on”

so izuku stopped talking and sped up his pace a little more to match katsuki’s.

they walked for a while, finally reaching the little stand in the furthest corner of the mall. and izuku’s reaction was priceless.

“kacchan..”

“deku”

“is this- are you- how didn’t i- how did you-“ it was like the teen couldn’t get out the words he wanted to. it was like he didn’t know what words to use. and for someone like izuku, that didn’t happen often.

katsuki just smiled to himself as he watched izuku struggle to find his wording.

he grabbed izuku’s arm and dragged him up to the little stand which sold all kinds of outdated all might merch. ranging from plushies, to little name cards, to even full on figurines. the stand had it all.

“kacchan!!!!” izuku’s eyes were wide with excitement as he pulled katsuki along, this time not really hiding the fact that he wanted to hold katsuki’s hand.

izuku would stop at all different spots of the stand, picking up something to show to katsuki from time to time.

they were having so much fun, both looking at and purchasing different pieces of merch. until izuku checked the time and his face dropped.

“kacchan, we missed like, half of the movie.”

“damn it,” katsuki paused, “well, i guess there’s nothing we can do about that.”

izuku nodded and the pair continued to shop, not leaving until their bags were full and their pockets were damn near empty.

-

“so kacchan, what should we do now?”

“well nerd, it’s just about time for dinner, so we should start heading back to the dorms.”

“okay,” izuku nodded, his mood seeming to drop a little, “but at least now we have all this cool merch!!” and just like that he was smiling again.

the pair walked to the dorms, both bumping into each other a little bit as they walked. conversing about just what they were going to eat for dinner that night.

“well kacchan,” izuku smiled, “you know what i reallllly want?”

“what would that be?”

“some katsudon.”

“deku you know that takes too long to cook,” katsuki rolled his eyes.

and izuku knew katuski was going to say that, and he knew katsuki was gonna make it anyway. because that’s how he was and always had been.

so, izuku tried to play it off. he tried to act like he didn’t know katsuki better than he knew himself.

“oh, okay then, i guess we can have something else then?”

“yep, i guess so,” a small smile played at katsuki’s lips as the pair walked side by side.

-

when they got to the dorms, katsuki immediately took off to the kitchen, ordering izuku to stay in his room for what he was cooking was a “surprise”.

“fine kacchan,” izuku just laughed and ran up the stairs.

he had planned on watching an old all might documentary while katsuki cooked the “surprise”, which he knew was going to be katsudon.

50 minutes into the documentary when katsuki called him downstairs.

“deku! get the fuck down here!”

“you’re such a lovely person, kacchan!!” izuku yelled right back at katsuki, smiling as he made his way downstairs.

when he got there, he was greeted with the smell and sight of two bowls of katsudon. both across from eachother on the huge table.

they both sat down in their respective seats and izuku thanked katsuki for the meal before they both started eating.

-

“kacchan that was so good!” izuku couldn’t stop smiling as he finished his food.

katsuki just grumbled a small “thanks” and started making his way to his room.

“wait! kacchan!” izuku called out before he disappeared.

“what”

“i was just wondering, if maybe you wanted to,” izuku trailed off.

“deku spit it the fuck out.”

“sorry kacchan, do you wanna watch a movie with me. just because we didn’t get to see the one at the mall,” he was rambling.

but katsuki just stared at the teen in adoration. it was then he realized that he liked izuku. he liked him a lot.

katsuki got closer and closer to izuku as he continued talking about the movie and the all might stand and then the dinner. it was like he didn’t even notice katsuki had moved.

until katsuki grabbed izuku’s face in his hands, that’s what shut him up immediately.

“kacchan,” his voice was barely a whisper.

“can i-“

izuku cut him off with a nod

katsuki leaned in and kissed izuku.

one peck turned into two

which turned into three and four

until the blonde got tired and pulled away, smiling bigger than he ever had before.

and it blew izuku away, he was blushing so hard.

“yes izuku, we can watch the movie.”
