Summary
In the days following the party fiasco, Edith found it impossible to focus on much of anything. Day and night, she found herself in a hypnotized state, playing back the night of the party over and over: the way Stella had stuck up for her and revealed her upper-crust genius; the way she folded Edith’s kerchief so delicately one might think it were made of glass; all the ways in which Stella touched her throughout the evening – and all the ways in which she didn’t.
Edith wanted to be touched again.
