Chapter Text
Cover thing I made for Wattpad
“We are worker drones,” the voice said. The video scene cuts to an image of several of these humanoid robots called worker drones standing in rows seeming to await for some kind of orders. These worker drones were short at least compared human standard, they all wore a thick grey hard hat, had a work coat, and held a pickaxe on their backs. These worker drones seemed indistinguishable from each other since they all wore the same clothes and had the same eye colour.
“Autonomous robots working for their interstellar company, JC Jenson, in spaaaaaaace!!!” the narration continued. In the accompanying scene, all the worker drones were all lined up in rows for a certain mining ore for their parent company JC Jension, in spaaaaaaace!!!!
The planet these worker drones seem to inhabit were littered with skyscrapers and industrial factories, which is presumably where they work. The planet which has been lazily named copper-9 was a snowy, dark, and miserable place, not really a place where tourism could flourish. Kind of the opposite really.
“Yeah and we were probably all mistreated by our human overlords in the name of company profits” the voice spoke again. The scene shifts to a large factory with all the worker drones carrying several containers of materials to whatever their destination was.
To the side of all the worker drones were humans wearing hazmat suits used to protect themselves from the smell of burnt copper no doubt. Each human seemed to have several different roles, some were managing the worker drone line, some were upstairs observing, and some were taking photos of the back broken drones.
“But it’s not like we robots would revolt and kill all the humans, mostly because they somehow managed to do it themselves…” the voice continued. We are shown a video screen glowing a dangerous dark red displaying the words ‘!!Warning!! Planet core collapse’. Two humans in front of the video screen staring at it. They both turn to face each other and shrug unsure of what to do. In the background several other humans can be seen running around and panicking. It's probably a human thing they do.
The scene shifts once more and zooms out to show a beautiful wide shot of the planet copper-9. In this wide shot we get to see two other celestial bodies, both of which are assumed to be the moons of copper-9. They both are a bright white and grey colour. One of the moons features a ring system around it similar to those of a ballerina’s skirt, the ring system being absent from the smaller moon. The stars lit up the dark vastness of space providing a sense of comfort on the dark nights on copper-9.
But just before we could appreciate the shot of copper-9, a massive explosion thousands of times stronger than the tsar bomba could be seen from space causing a massive planet wide shockwave that rocks and shakes the entire planet.
In the next scene we are shown the surface of what remains of copper-9’s human civilization. It's even more snowy-er now, nearly at blizzard levels of snowy-ness. Some of the skyscrapers shown in the previous scenes have been destroyed, either by having been tipped over or completely obliterated. Most if not all of biological life on copper-9 has completely been wiped out by the massive explosion.
We can see a little snowflake gliding slowly towards the ground. It twists and twirls in the air until it gracefully lands on the frozen skeleton of a dead human who was killed from the planet wide explosion. The human skeleton was posed in a manner in which one could assume was trying to shield themselves from the explosion of the planet but to no avail.
In the same scene, a worker drone rises from the snow with their hand on their head. The same worker drone sees the human skeleton, and instead of recoiling at the sight of one of their dead overlords, they instead poke the human skeleton with their finger, causing the skeleton to fall onto the ground which shatters instantly. Nearby a worker drone sees the skeleton shatter, they look up at the other worker, and give a thumbs of approval.
“With human and basically biological life wiped out from our beloved planet, we found it pretty easy to pick up from where they left off” said the voice.
The scene brings us back to the factory, but instead of worker drones being used for free labour, it shows the factory being empty. Two worker drones stood inside the observation room, presumably to take over the human settlement.
“We finally had a future, all to ourselves” the voice said happily. The scene cuts to a separate room from the factory. The room features one large window, and a sign on top of said window that read ‘Welcome to our nursery’ with a colourful rainbow text format. In the same room were two worker drones, but unlike the worker drones seen at the beginning, these two worker drones had different eye colour, clothing, and were even different genders.
But it wasn't the two worker drones the camera was focused on, it was the little baby drone or droneling that the female worker drone was holding. Looking closer at the droneling, we could see it with its cyan coloured eyes and the text below its visor displaying the words, ‘untrained neural network’ further proving its status as droneling.
“Unfortunately our parent company wasn't really keen on the idea of rogue runaway ai” The voice said sadly. The camera shows the dark planet sky as calm as flat ocean waters. The moons shon a soft tender light that was casted across the snowy landscape. However the view is interrupted by an object that whizzes past in a flash. The object crashes violently onto the ground creating a snowy shockwave that rocks the ground and shakes the buildings surrounding it.
Several worker drones, curious, head towards the source of the sound to investigate what had caused such a ruckus. Upon reaching the source of ruckus, what they discovered was a large crater caused by some sort of landing pod that featured spider legs, possibly used to traverse the rough terrain; the pod itself was sort of shaped like a hexagonal prism.
The worker drones intended to investigate further into the crash site. This was until the landing pod door whipped open without warning and with a hiss. Looking at the door, it appeared to be empty with no sign of life inside. Puzzled, the worker drones were about to move closer towards the pod, but that was until three separated yellow Xs appeared from the darkness. Suddenly all three Xs all fly into the night sky all hovering just above the ground in viewing distance for all the other worker drones. When the worker drone could see these figures more clearly, they could see that they were drones, but they were too tall for worker drones.
They had wings made out of steel blades that could slice their heads off clean. Their hands were made out of the same steel blades but functioned the same way as normal drones hands, just very sharp. The drones had some sort of tail with a bottle that held a yellow substance at the tip of the tail which also featured a needle that could pierce into their bodies. And on their forehead appeared several different yellow bulbs, which purpose was not yet known.
But it wasn’t all of the features that alarmed the worker drones the most, it was the fact that one of these drones had the head of a dead worker drone stabbed by the female drone’s finger. The dead worker drone head was dropped onto the snow, with a red text that read ‘fatal error’. This sight caused all the worker drones to internally panic. Yet they still do not run away, still caught in the shock of the moment of witness of a murder. The first they’ve ever seen. But with no time to react, the yellow-eyed female drone retracted her knife hands into her arm, and out of her arm came a missile launcher, which instantly fired missiles towards the rest of the worker drones still standing in place.
Several worker drones were caught in the initial missile explosion and were unfortunately killed in the several explosions that took place. The rest who are still alive ran away in a very chaotic manner and in several different directions. Those who did not run away, were sliced, blown up, or shot at with a yellow energy beam that melted them instantly. Those who remained gathered together and retreated to the nearest human made bunker, where they stayed for the rest of their lives.
“Which brings us to where we are today! Currently we just sit on our chairs in this bunker we call home. Unable to go outside to enjoy the nice views of the stars and the moon, or to explore the rest of the planet to see if there are other colonies just like ours! Just think of it! Imagine what we could find out there!” The younger worker drone exclaimed excitedly.
The worker drone in question was a pretty young looking drone but he wasn’t a kid, but not an adult either. His eyes were a bright emerald colour. He had light grey hair and wore a grey breton hat on top of his hair which was tipped upwards slightly. He had a short dark blue coat that reached down to his waist which was accompanied by a black belt used to keep the coat in place. What was odd about the coat though was that the sleeves were rather short for some odd reason. He wore black boots, usually worn for hiking or trekking.
When he spoke about the dreams of going outside, he seemed full of energy and optimism, enough to match a toddler on the playground. He was practically jumping around while he spoke about his idea of being outside. He smiled brightly that could melt the hearts of those who love the innocent.
“That's why I suggest we start negotiating with these ‘murder drones’! Maybe they were just afraid of us when they got here, or maybe they accidentally mistook us for someone else, or.. or… “ he paused thinking of another reason, but came up empty.
“What I’m saying is that we go out there, and open up a diplomatic line, where we could maybe work some sort of deal out!”.
The worker drones in the classroom just stared at him. some were completely stoic, some were bored as hell, and some were trying to not burst out laughing at the idea of talking to murder drones. One of these worker drones appears to be the teacher of the class. He sat at the desk in the corner of the room listening to the worker drone explain his insane plan to venture outside. He sighs.
“Neo, the homework was a word problem about purchasing pineapples,” the teacher said with a hint of disappointment. The name of the voice who spoke previously has now been revealed.
“Oh… this whole idea about being able to explore the free world doesn’t count?” Neo pleaded with a smile.
“No… Plus the ‘I love friendship’ baggage was only worth 2 marks on the rubric.” The teacher explains emotionlessly.
“I’m sorry Neo but you’re gonna have to visit the principal’s office again” The teacher continued.
“Aw biscuits” Neo says sadly. He tries to come up with an excuse to please the teacher to not send him, but he falters. He looks at the floor sadly and slowly exits the classroom. The other teenager drones now start to laugh at Neo who somehow managed to fail to complete the homework.
Neo sat on the chair waiting for his turn to the principal's room. ‘He was busy in a meeting with the other teachers, probably’ Neo Thought. So Neo just sat there on the chair staring at the clock waiting. A few minutes past, before Veronica came walking in.
Veronica was mesmerising to Neo. She was the same age as Neo. She had blood red eyes. She had short white hair accompanied by a thin black headband. She wore a dark red skirt that reached halfway to her knees. She also wore a dark red hoodie which sleeves weren’t shortened. And she had bright yellow shoes that she thought really made her stand out from everyone else. She was cool with everyone, and was friends with almost everyone. She was kind and caring but when coming into the defence of someone, she could get a little violent. She is everything he wants in his life.
Usually she walked confidently down the hallways waving at everyone she sees. But as she walks towards Neo, her face is in a state of pout. She was walking grumpily. This was not a normal day for her. She sits down beside Neo, not acknowledging his entire existence.
Neo just continued to stare at her, absolutely stuck in his gaze at the girl he wants to be with so bad. He couldn’t bring himself to speak. Just seeing her next to him is causing all of his functions to fail. Neo shuts off overwhelmed with emotion. Less than seconds later he's back on again, but he gasps loudly.
Veronica flinches at the loud noise. She hadn’t realised there was someone next to her. She quickly got out of her seat and took two steps back and put up a defensive stance. She looks at Neo for second, then she relaxes her stance back to her normal one. She studies him for a second.
“What’s your name again?” She asked.
