"So, you've really become maternal since the last time we met, huh?" asked Raine as Eda turned off the candles in the base.
Eda shrugged her shoulders.
"It's just kind of one of those things that happens..." Eda remarked. "I mean, come on, you know I had kids since we last met up."
"Right, I just didn't think you had gotten so... busy since I saw you last." Raine teased. Eda felt her face flush.
"No, no, it's not like that..." Eda was quick to explain. Raine laughed.
"I know, I know. So you really don't have anyone in your life like that?" Raine replied. Eda cast a look of suspicion to them.
"I mean, I could! No end to the amount of wanna-be-suitors in my life." Eda said, not even realizing she had followed Raine aimlessly as they made their way out to the Latissa forest. Fireflies buzzed like dazzling stars close to the ground.
Raine approached a log, clearing it of moss by tapping their fingers rhythmically. Eda sat down with them.
This felt nice, as Raine's presence often was.
"So, when were you going to tell me any of this?" asked Eda, somewhat solemnly. "I had been convinced for a long time, thanks to you and your method acting."
"Well, I wanted to keep you safe... but when I saw how dire things were getting for you and your family, it suddenly became a lot more important to me that you knew the truth." Raine put their hand on Eda's weathered fingers, interlocking them. Eda nodded.
"I understand. Just gave me quite the scare for a long time... I didn't know if you were even still in there. Even now, it all feels like some sort of trap I'm waiting to have spring on me."
"Well, the only thing going to spring on you now is me." Raine replied.
"Yeah... wait, what?" asked Eda before she felt Raine press their face against hers, kissing her on the lips. Eda felt a hot blush cross her face as Raine pulled way, their face similarly also a hot mess.
"You know what, we should really..." Raine fake coughed, not able to look at Eda. "We should really go get some rest, huh?"
"Uh huh..." Eda replied, clicking the roof of her mouth. The two made their way back awkwardly, still utterly smitten with each other all these years later.
