“Ah Reinhard!” A familiar voice caught the attention of Red Haired Knight. Called out from a short distance away Subaru noticed a familiar face. With the Violet Haired Knight of Anastasia’s camp excusing his way through the crowd.

“Julius!” Reinhard perked up, gently leading Subaru to meet his longtime friend halfway.

The knight responded with a bow, first to Reinhard then to Subaru.

“It is good to see you again my friend, the battle was hard fought but we succeeded nonetheless due to the diligent planning of Natsuki-san, Anastasia, and Lady Crusch.” Julius said as he raised from his bow.

“Natsuki Subaru, I apologize for interrupting your evening with Reinhard but I just wished to offer thanks from both Anastasia, and myself.”

Waving her hand nonchalantly back and forth the girl wasn't used to being praised so much in one night.
“Oh ah… it was nothing, if anything I should really be thanking them for even taking time to listen to me” Silently trying to dismiss the thoughts in her mind of how long it took her to even get the time of day for the candidates to listen.

It was at this moment Julius had the sudden realization, with his eyes glazing over the pair in front of him. One of his eyebrows raised in thought as his hand rested ponderously on his chin.

Observing that with one of her hands awkwardly waving back and forth… the other was occupied, softly interlocked in Reinhard. With his eyes snapping from their interlocked hands to Reinhard’s eyes he now began to understand his friends improved mood over the past few months.

With a coy smile he cleared his throat, “Natsuki Subaru it appears I should also be thanking you for looking after my friend as well.”

As if on cue the pair realized once again why they were seeking people out. With a small blush appearing on Reinhard’s cheeks, and a deep crimson blush spreading across her face they looked at each other for a moment before Reinhard chose to speak up with all seriousness.

“I apologize, for I got so hung up at the moment that I forgot our main reason for seeking out our friends and companions this evening.”

Reinhard placed his free hand on his heart, and with all seriousness with a smile on his face he proudly proclaimed.
“Subaru and I have confessed our feelings for one another, and I have decided it would be in our best interest for our own happiness if I courted her so we may start a family one day!”

Julius wasn't drinking anything but nevertheless seemed to choke on air at the proud and bold proclamation of his friend. Feeling fear, not for himself but for his friend who he knew to be generally socially clueless, he feared that Reinhard had made a mistake as it was not custom to announce courtships since ancient times especially in the manner that he chose. The worried Knight turned to Subaru, fully expecting her to have a look of confusion or disgust on her face from Reinhard proclamation. But instead she looked ecstatic, nodding along happily.

“HUH?”

The knight stood there bewildered. He expected that they were in some sort of relationship but for Reinhard to proclaim that he was courting her to the public was far beyond the reach of what he expected.

“Julius are you alright?” Subaru said, cocking her head slightly.
…
Quickly regaining his composure Julius spoke up. “Ah yes I was just worried for a moment that his proclamation was unfounded, but seeing now I understand that you return his feelings which is truly relieving” with his face tinged slightly from secondhand embarrassment.

“Unfounded…” Subaru paused thinking for a moment, before herself boldly stating. “But I want everyone of our friends to know I love him!”

Now turning to Reinhard, the Violet Haired Knight noticed a warm smile spread on his face. A type of smile that he had never once seen on his friend before.

Julius couldn't help but let out a small chuckle, not wanting to ruin their evening he decided it would be best not to inform them that there was no such custom of informing friends, and acquaintances of a courtship(at least not for the last century). Instead he gave them another polite bow.
“Please enjoy your evening, and continue to strive for true happiness with one another.”

Completely oblivious to Julius’s implication the pair continued to make their way through the celebration… in better spirits than ever.

Subaru had spent the last 10 minutes frantically looking around trying to spot the silver hair of her friend.
“hmmm “ Subaru grumbled

“You’d think she would be easy to spot but I haven't even gotten a glimpse of her.”

Reinhard looked down, concerned for a moment before offering “Subaru if it would put your mind at ease I could depart for a moment and locate her quickly.”

“Oh yeah sure that would be gr-” and he was gone alongside the warmth on her hand. But just as promised it was only for a moment in which he returned, softly retaking her hand.

“S-superman more like the flash!” Subaru said excitedly to noone in particular.”

Being used to her odd references Reinhard simply smiled.
…
“In order to save time, and thus reduce your stress it would be ideal if I simply carry you there.” And there she was, shamelessly scooping up bridal style in his arms gaining the attention of countless onlookers, before she could so much as say a single word of protest there was a blur and then suddenly there were on almost the other end of the hall. Standing right before Emilia who had a bite of tart still in her mouth. “Subuurw-u!” he exclaimed with the word half garbled by her hand covering her full mouth.

Emilia quickly finished the food she was chewing and rushed over the remaining distance, seemingly unaware of the implications of Subaru being tucked in Reinhard's arms.

Even Subaru herself felt too embarrassed to be carried around like this with so many people watching, so she softly indicated to be let down but not before retaking his hand.

But the moment she touched the floor again Emilia’s arms were wrapped around her. “Subaru!! You did soooo well!”

Returning the embrace of her friend, she had so much to tell but one thing more important than all. Out of everyone she felt most comfortable with fully telling Emilia.
“Um Emi…” Subaru began, feeling the warmth start to spread across her face in preparation.

“Subaru?? Are you okie?? Your face is soooo~ red!” Emilia said in shock, placing a hand on the embarrassed girl's forehead.

“Yes..yes im okie, um well more than okie… Reinhard and I.. we” Subaru started.
…
“OH Reinhard!, im soo sorry I forgot my manners!” Emilia gave a bow greeting Reinhard before returning her gaze to her friend.

Letting out a small chuckle the girl felt more at ease before continuing.
“Well Emi Reinhard and I …” Subaru couldnt hold it in anymore, this was one of her first times having a girl talk.

Reinhard placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. “I’ll excuse myself for a moment so you can catch up, I think the balcony would be a suitable spot for us to meet at when you are finished” walking off but not before giving Subaru an oh so gentle kiss on the cheek. Causing the girl to turn red once again. But as he started to walk of she grabbed him by the hand
“W-wait!”

She quickly leaned in, and kissed him. With it now being his turn to join in her giddiness.
“I’ll see you soon,” she said with a warm smile.

Turning around Subaru didnt expect a look of pure shock on Emilia’s face with her normally porcelain white skin turned a bright red crimson.

“Emi are you alri-”
“SUBARRUUU!!!” Emilia sang, springing forward and with surprising strength picked the girl up, spinning her around.

“This really is a day to ~doubly~ be celebrated!” Emilia said, finally placing the now dizzy girl on the ground.

Subaru couldnt help but smile, “heh you see Emi! Your friend here has some amazing romantic game of her own! It was like I picked every right romance option and got the 100%!”

Emila couldnt stop her smile “And now your gonna have a baby!!”

Subaru’s face went puzzled for a moment
“Huh”

Emilia’s face was still lit up.
“A baby! I wonder what you can name it! Do you have any ideas! I will say however, Subaru I dont think thats appropriate to do in public like this! You are lucky that there arent many people around this area!”

Subaru suddenly feeling embarrassed once again spoke up “w-what what do you mean Emi, we uh just started dating or er- courting or I mean me being courted.” With her face turning red she leaned up to Emilia’s ear to whisper.
“Is he looking at me a certain way that you know he wants kids soon…I couldnt tell but im sure you know Emi, was there anything in his eyes that showed thats what he wanted now?”

“Huh?” now Emilia looked puzzled

“Subaru but he just kissed you…”

Subaru back up for a moment, “OHH wait no Emi that wasnt our first kiss! Our first kiss was earlier today! Ohh it was so romantic Emi! It was at the flowerfield where we first went on a date or well I dont think it was a date when we first went all those months ago but… well its a special place for us!”

Emilia paused again with her lips tightening to a pursed expression.
“Subaru, I know you reaaallyy love him but you need to be careful! Already pregnant with two babies!”

“Eh?”

Subaru was completely confused, thinking that Emilia was simply joking around with her but looking up at Emilia’s serious expression she realized that she wasnt kidding in the slightest.
“Um Emi… you do know well…im not exactly sure if elves are the same but well human girls cant get pregnant by kissing…”
Emilia’s face looked in shock. “Subaru what are you talking about?! But then how would they-”

Damn you puck! Just how sheltered did you make her! Cursed Subaru internally.

“I can explain better when we get back or um maybe Ram could explain it better”

“Oh I see!” Emilia said with a pondering look on her face before perking up once again.
“Soooo since kisses dont get you pregnant… I hope you kiss each other lots!”

With a sly smirk spreading on Subarus face she replied.
“Heh, dont you worry my Emi! I have 1000’s of Otome lines stocked up and ready to use!”

Subaru gave Emilia a goodbye hug promising to talk more later, but first she had to go and find Reinhard.

As she neared the balcony overlooking the city she heard the sounds of a raised voice, and as the sounds of celebration behind her slowly faded out she could make out the voice but not the words.

Coming around the corner she could see the typically stoic face of Wilhelm utterly soured as he seemingly berated Reinhard who stood there with his gaze almost at the ground with his shoulders drooped

“H-Hey!” Subaru tried to shout as she picked up her walk to a jog to get to the pair faster.
…
Wilhelms harshness immediately softened at the sight of the girl, giving a bow.
“ Subaru-dono”
…
Giving a simple nod back, the girl was too distracted by the distraught expression on Reinhard.
…
Moving herself practically in between them, she took Reinhard's hand and gave it a soft squeeze.
“W-whats going on?”

“Reinhard…are you okay?”
…
His eyes matched hers, and she could practically see the sadness radiating off of them.
…
She knew full well of Reinhard’s family situation, and had done what she could in the past to try and fix it. She thought her last talk with Wilhelm helped resolve his relationship with Reinhard, but it clearly was nowhere near as effective as she thought. With the girl now feeling the increasing weight of nervousness swell in her stomach, turning it up and down believing that the only reason Reinhard would be this dejected is if Wilhelm didn't give his approval or simply outright forbade Reinhard. She tried to think of something, anything that would have Wilhelm change his mind.

However, first to break the silence was Wilhelm who spoke bluntly.
“Subaru-dono… I was informed that you are being ‘courted’ by Reinhard…”

Gulping, and feeling her skin turn cold she turned and met his eyeline.
…
“While I do believe that this is not the ideal choice, I know that you are extraordinarily competent at making the right decisions. So if you truly believe that your feelings for him are true, I shall not oppose your decision.”

Subaru’s stress turned into confusion.
“Y-you approve?”
…
Giving a solemn nod Wilhelm began to turn and walk away.
…
However Subaru wasn't satisfied, while Wilhelm begrudgingly accepted her decision she didn't want the familial strain to keep eating away at Reinhard. She wanted to take another step toward fixing it here and now.

Before Wilhelm could get more than a few steps. Subaru grabbed him gingerly by the cuff of his suit.

“W-WAIT!”
“I.. I LOVE HIM!” Subaru practically shouted with the echoes cascading off the balcony.

Seemingly choking on nothing, Wilhem paused mid step but not turning around. Feeling tears well in her eyes Subaru continued not taking a moment to breathe.
“I love everything about him… the way he reaches out to me when i'm at my lowest…the way he helps me when he has nothing to gain from it… the way he always stays by my side.”
With this Wilhelm turned around, his eyes widening in concern at the sight of the tears now readily trickling down her cheek.

“B-but I dont just want you to accept it for my sake, I want to you to want it for him as well!”

“Subaru-dono… I-” Wilhelm began
…
But Subaru began again
“PLEASE! Its just b-because you dont know how much hes done for me! When we first met he saved me, and then with no incentive besides his own kindness he toured me around the city…. I wouldnt have made it without him, I was scared and alone… even back home I felt sick when I was outside for even a little while. And at times when I was feeling completely broken, and lost he brought me to a flowerfield, and tucked one in my hair. When I felt completely overwhelmed in the throne room from all the people he took my hand, not caring about the onlookers…”
Sniffling but now resolute she continued
“And there's a million more embarrassing things that I can say about why I love him! I can stand here saying them all night until you accept it!”

Subaru wiped the tears from her eyes and looked up at Wilhelm who had fully turned around. But his gaze was at Reinhard who he spoke to in a solemn tone.

“Subaru-dono… I was unaware of these actions.”
…
Reinhard’s distraught mood was already lifted by Subaru’s words, and one last encouraging squeeze of his hand was enough to give him the spark he needed.

“Indeed Grandfather, it is all true but it doesn't paint the full picture.”
…
“Huh?” with both Subaru and Wilhelm now looking at the Red Haired Knight in confusion he paused a moment before continuing.
…
“What she told you is true, however she omitted all the wonderful and beyond kind actions that she took for my sake. Because I also have countless reasons for why I love her. Her bravery, her heart, her compassion… She is truly the only person in the world who I can see myself truly happy with…. And she is the only person in the world who understands me…she is the girl who went out of her way, through leaps, and bounds to try and improve my own life by teaching me to live and be human again.”

Reinhard gave her a reassuring smile, noticing the blush on her cheeks.

Wilhelm softly closed his eyes for a moment. But that was all it took for his memories to come flooding back.

Theresia… the love of his life… the sun to his moon… his everything.
…
Remembering back long ago, the memories of a radiant girl, and a stoic young man. Fond memories that were mirrored now right in front of him. Standing before him was the young woman who gave him the closure he needed, who brought an end to an evil that has plagued countless families. If this was her decision, and if Reinhard truly aided her as much as she claimed then he owed an equal part thanks to his Grandson as well. For the first time in as long as he could remember a sense of ease overcame him, seeing the pair so joyfully interact in front of his own eyes, Wilhelm felt a deep peace in his heart. As now he could see the “Reinhard '' that Theresia cherished so dearly. So for the sake of the happiness of the both of them, he made an internal vow to protect them both now and forever. So that neither of them would have to suffer the fate of losing the one you loved most…

“I see… then you shall have my support and protection from any threat that you or your children will face. I swear, I will uphold this promise in the honor of my beloved Theresia.”

Giving a deep bow, Wilhelm for the first time in a longtime Wilhelm felt an ease even greater than when he avenged his wife. For now his last true connection to her can thrive and flourish and live the happy life that she always wished for him.

As Wilhelm walked away, Reinhard couldn't help but feel an enormous burden lifted from his shoulders. Yet again the one he cherished so dearly has made his life better.
Unable to control himself he embraced her in a deep hug. Earning a small laugh and a giggle from the girl. Followed by a gentle kiss planted on his forehead.

Not yet letting her down, he loved her gently so their foreheads were touching before o’ so softly whispering.
“Subaru…would you grace me with the honor of a dance?”
