Chapter Text
The old man was talking again. Well really more of rambling. Thankfully nothing more was required of him then nodding along and making appropriate sounding noises. He had tried to listen at first but it was just years of the same thing. Lectures disguised as advice and false reassurance of understanding. It didn't help that the advice was the single stupidest thing he had ever heard.
Don't get him wrong Anakin loved the man, Anakin loved everyone who was willing to love him even a little bit. But gosh was this annoying and a waste of time he could be with his secret wife right now.
Anakin let his mind drift as it always did during these conversations. It was good, helped him sort out his thoughts while the unimportant rambling continued in the background. The war was winding down. That's good he would be able to hang out with Ahsoka more. War time secrecy sucked and he lacked the capacity to actually have conversations without talking about everything he had been up to. It was hard with her not being a Jedi, hard to make time to talk to her and harder to talk generally. Once the war was over he was gonna track her down and force obi-wan (maybe Cody has some good blackmail material) to go with them to Dex's and just talk. No teaching, or lectures or judgement, just 3 friends having a conversation. For a few minutes he relaxed imagining an idyllic time after the war. Gradually he allowed that to fade and moved on to other problems
After that maybe he could get his wife's help to write the petition to make him a master. He understood that the council was just rebelling against war time overreach whenever possible but it still rankled. Plus master Windu always seemed so angry with him specifically. He didn't feel like he had done anything to deserve that, and he couldn't help but feel that that harshness had influenced the councils rejection of his former Padawan. That hurt more then anything else, how could they do that. Not just to Ashoka but to him and Obi-wan. He understood the council didn't always like him but Obi-wan was their friend. How could they let him sit in on that? That must have destroyed him. It felt like betrayal like when they asked him to spy on palpatine.
Speaking of that Anakin roused his awareness to catch palpatine asking about some old sith legend about Darth plageius the wise. Wait why does he know a sith legend unless
"You're the sith Lord, I need to tell the council"
"Do what you must" stated the newly revealed Sith lord
Well that was weird Anakin expected him to fight him more on this oh well.
30 minutes later Mace returned from killing palpatine to find Anakin still in the counsel chambers working on his petition to be made a master.
