Siblings Rivalry

Summary:

It's sibling's weekend at the University of Washington and Maya and Carina's mom's both have forced them to have their brothers over for the weekend. So they decide to take them to a college party and hilarity ensues.

Notes:

I'm not sure if this is a thing outside of the US but here at the beginning of the year we have a weekend where siblings can come and visit and stay for the weekend. I thought it would be perfect for this little universe!

I based all of the sibling moments based of me and my five sisters. We may have loved each other but we also hated each other and that’s how I wrote them in this fic. I hope y’all enjoy it and let me know what you thought in the comments

Work Text:

September - Sophomore Year

Their moms made them do this. It’s sibling’s weekend and they are forcing them to have their brothers come for the weekend.

Carina and Maya both love their brothers, they truly do but they have no idea what to do with them for the weekend. They can’t exactly show them what they actually do on the weekends. Which involved underage drinking or sitting in their dorm watching crappy reality TV.

So they are at a standstill of what to do with them and they were going to be here any minute. Ms. Deluca was dropping them off and then Ms. Bishop was going to pick them up.

“What do we do with two 18-year-olds?” Maya asks sitting in her desk chair facing Carina who is on her bed.

“In Italia, both of them would be of legal age to drink…” Carina points out and Maya shakes her head.

“Nope, I am not helping my little brother get drunk. If he ever told our mom she will have my head, we need to think of something else.”

“Maya the only thing we do on the weekends is sit in our dorm or go to the occasional party. Mason and Andrea are only going to want to do one of those two things.” Carina chuckles still not opposed to taking them to a party as long as they keep an eye on them.

“There are all those activities for the siblings in the rec center and the student center,” Maya suggests knowing the answer to that suggestion, she doesn’t even want to go to those events.

“Those are going to be incredibly lame and they aren’t going to have any fun. I still say we go to one of the many parties being thrown for sibling’s weekend,” Carina suggests.

“Carina!! We have to come up with something else,” Maya says laughing knowing that’s about the best option they have at the moment.

“What?! Tell me I’m wrong Maya. Let's see you come up with any better ideas,” Carina says laughing knowing she isn’t going to be able to.

“I can’t,” says Maya at a loss knowing they are going to end up taking them to a party.

“Alright then. We just keep an eye on them and don’t drink more than one drink, be smart about it. We get a pizza beforehand and take them to the sibling's weekend party at Sigma Phi. They are the least sleazy fraternity here and won’t even be that bad, plus there’s probably going to be a lot of kids their age there so it works out,” Carina says coming up with a plan.

“Okay…do we actually trust them not to tell our moms? I think that’s the bigger question.” Maya asks knowing she does not trust Mason as far as she can throw him, he has a big mouth sometimes.

“Mama isn’t going to care too much, drinking age in Italia is 18. She let me drink at that age remember? So if Andrea tells her it won’t be a big deal, as long as I make sure he is safe and doesn’t get into any trouble.” Carina says shrugging her shoulders not too scared of her mother’s reaction to the plans for tonight.

“Okay well Katherine Bishop isn’t going to be so casual about it, at least I don’t think. I never drank in high school so I don’t know how it will be if Mason tells her. We’ll see I guess; we both know he can’t keep stuff to himself if he’s excited about it.” Maya laughs thinking about all the times he ruined surprises in the past year and a half since their mom left Lane and the two siblings became closer.

“I don’t think your mama is going to be as bad as you think she will be. Just tell Mason not to tell her and I doubt he will.” Carina says laughing at how much Maya seems to be freaking out about this.

“Last year when we surprised our mom with tickets to go see our aunt in San Francisco he spilled the beans and told her a few days before. The boy can keep a secret as well as you can, he’s actually worse and that’s saying something.” Maya says as Carina throws a pillow at her face.

“I am not that bad! I don’t actually share the secrets unlike him.” Carina says chuckling thinking about the surprises he has ruined over the year. It’s the only reason she schools her features around him and makes sure he can’t read into anything she says or does. She doesn’t need him telling Maya about her feelings.

Maya is about to answer when there is a knock on the door and she throws the pillow back at Carina as she gets up answering the door and finds both of their brothers as well as Carina’s mom.

“Buonasera ragazze, how are you?” Lucia asks as she gives Maya a kiss on both cheeks before Maya steps back to let all of them into the room.

“Buonasera mama, we trying to figure out what to do for the night,” Carina says giving her a hug and smiling at the woman.

“Have you two come up with anything?” Lucia asks having a feeling what the two probably have planned, neither she nor Katherine are stupid. They know the two girls are more than likely going to take them to a party, they know they will keep an eye on them so they aren’t worried. Both of them are just excited to have a girl's night without any of their children bothering them.

“Not yet,” Maya said before Carina could say anything. Carina laughed at Maya shaking her head but saying nothing.

“Bene, well you two have fun and Katherine will be here Sunday to pick you both up bene?” Lucia asks making sure they are both good before she leaves them.

“Si,” says Andrea.

“Yes ma’am,” says Mason making Lucia scrunch up her nose, being called ma’am makes her feel incredibly old.

“Alright, I am leaving then buonanotte e buon divertimento!” [goodnight and have fun!] Lucia says before leaving the dorm.

“Do the two of you really not have anything planned or was that a lie?” Asks Andrea needing to know if this weekend was going to be completely boring or not.

“ovviamente era una bugia [of course that was a lie], even if mama is okay with us drinking I’m not going to flat out tell her we are going to take you two to a party,” Carina said as if he asked the stupidest question.

“Thank god we are doing something fun, I for sure thought the fun police over here was going to kill the mood,” Mason says. Maya looks at him incredibly offended as she slaps his arms making him chuckle and wince. Both boys drop their backpacks by the front door as they move into the dorm.

“I am not the fun police!” Maya says and the room gets silent and Maya gets even more offended. “I’m not!!”

“Bambina I had to convince you to even let us take them to this party, don’t pretend you aren’t the fun police,” Carina says a smile on her face. Maya pouts and crosses her arms over her chest.

“Whatever, I’m ordering pizza what do you two idiots want?” She asks getting her phone off her desk and finding the number for their favorite pizza place.

“Supreme pizza please, with everything on it,” Andrea says jumping up onto Maya’s bed with his shoes on.

“Hey! If you are going to lay on my bed then take off your shoes, disgusting little shit buckets,” Maya mumbles the last part under her breath while dialing the number.

“I heard that!” Andrea yells making Carina laugh and shake her head.

It has been four years since they moved to the States and met the Bishops but to her and Andrea they were family. She loved seeing Maya treat her little brother the same way she treats her own brother, she is glad he has someone else to look up to and talk to. She never asked for more family but she is glad they found Maya and Mason when they moved here.

“If you heard me then why are your nasty shoes still on my bed Andrew?!” Maya says shoving his feet off the bed annoyed that the teenager wasn’t listening to her.

“Because it annoys you,” Andrew chuckles and sticks his tongue out at her.

“Andrew I swear to god I dare you to try me, I will make your weekend hell.” Maya threatened already having had a long week with track practice and nearly failing her chem test.

She loves both of them to death but they annoy her to no end.

“Andrea. Shoes off or get off the bed.” Carina said and Andrew rolled his eyes but takes off his shoes laying back on the bed.

“Mase you’re quiet over there,” Carina notices looking over to Mason and seeing him sitting at her desk chair.

“Oh I am just enjoying Maya berating someone that isn’t me for a change,” Mason says laughing making Andrew laugh as well.

“I’ll make your weekend hell too don’t try me, dude,” Maya says finally calling Nino’s to place their order of pizza making sure there is enough for Andy and Vic.

“She’s had a long week that’s why she’s grumpy,” Carina says making Maya roll her eyes as she hangs up the phone.

“I am not grumpy, I am tired and really don’t want to go to a party tonight,” Maya says sighing and letting her shoulders sink as her body relaxes as she leans against her desk.

“You also don’t have to try to justify Maya’s mood, she’s always grumpy.” Andrew throws a pillow at her making Maya glare at him which doesn’t scare him or deter him.

“Andrea stop or I will let her hurt you and we all know Maya is freakishly strong for her height,” Carina says seriously. Maya whips her head to look at Carina an affronted look on her face as she throws the pillow at Carina making her laugh.

“Seriously?! What is it ‘pick on Maya day’ or something?” Maya says wondering why everyone was ganging up on her.

Carina chuckles tossing the pillow back on Maya’s bed and gives Maya’s forehead a kiss on instinct and laughs not even realizing what she did. Andrew gives his sister a strange look but chooses not to comment on it as she glares at him, she actually scares him.

“The mysterious brothers have finally arrived!” Andy says walking into the dorm from the bathroom followed by Vic.

“Andy, Vic these are our brothers, Dumb and Dumber,” Maya says laughing at her own joke as she points to each of them.

“Maya, I swear you aren’t much better than either of them sometimes. This is Andrea and Mason,” Carina points to each one and they both wave.

“Hey, Andrea! We have the same name! I go by Andy,” Andy says chuckling at the coincidence.

“Cool, I go by Andrew although Carina refuses to call me that,” he glares at his sister.

“Your name is Andrea, there’s no need to Americanize it,” Carina defends rolling her eyes.

“I’m Vic,” Vic throws in there seeing as no one introduced her.

“Hey Vic,” Mason says seeing as he wasn’t saying much either.

“So what are the plans for tonight?” Mason asks wanting to know what the actual plans are for the weekend.

“Sigma Phi is throwing a sibling's weekend party and Carina figures it will be fun to take you both,” Maya says wanting to make it clear she had no part in planning this.

“A college party?! Sweet!” Andrew says a little more excited than Carina would like.

“There are some ground rules before you get too excited. You have to stay with us all night, no leaving our sight or I find you, embarrass you and we leave. Second, three drink max, neither I nor Maya needs to lug the two of you home while you are completely drunk. Third, no trying to hit on college girls that’s embarrassing for everyone.” Carina lists off all the rules and Maya laughs at the disappointment flashing across their faces.

“What’s the point of going to a college party if we have to stay glued to both of your sides all night?” Mason asks thinking this is going to be a total waste if they have to stay with the two of them all night.

“You don’t have to stay glued to our sides we just want to be able to see you at all times, no trying to sneak off.” Maya says agreeing with Carina’s rules, “plus we all know how Carina is and she will indeed embarrass you so I wouldn’t try anything.”

Carina nods her head once not even going to deny Maya’s accusation, she knows she has no shame and will embarrass them whenever she can. She finds it more fun than she would ever admit.

“This is so lame!” Andrew exclaims throwing himself back onto Maya’s bed making her roll her eyes.

“It’s this or go to the stupid activities in the student center or stay in the dorm watching crappy TV, take your pick,” Maya says to Andrew raising one of her eyebrows at him when he raises up onto his elbows to look at her.

“Party it is then,” Mason answers for both of them. He would rather go to the party under their rules than do either of the other options.

“Andrew?” Carina asks and he looks over at her and rolls his eyes.

“Party, better than the other two options,” he sits up again and sighs.

“That’s what I thought now the pizza should be ready I’m going to pick it up,” Maya says holding out her hand to Carina hoping she will just hand over the keys out of instinct.

“Nice try bella, I’m still not letting you drive my Porsche,” Carina says grabbing her purse and walking towards the door.

“Worth the shot,” Maya says shrugging her shoulders and watching her leave.

“So how old are both of you?” Vic asks leaning against the wall opposite the bathroom closest to Carina’s bed.

“18,” Mason answers for both of them, and Andrew nods.

“Nice, do you guys know what you want to do when you graduate high school?” Andy asks curiously wanting to learn about Maya and Carina’s brothers.

“I want to go to Cornish once I graduate, I’m applying with my portfolio in a few months,” Mason answers making Maya’s heart swell with pride. She loves hearing Mason talk about his art and where he wants to go with it.

“That’s the art college in the city right? I have a few friends who go there for dance and they love it,” Vic says excited to hear he wants to go there. “I can give you their numbers if you want I’m sure they would love to give you a tour or something,” Vic says and Mason lights up at the prospect of it.

“Yeah! That would be awesome, I just hope I get in,” Mason says getting a little shy about it always having been shy talking about his art.

“You’re totally going to get in dude, your art is amazing,” Andrew says having seen some of his art, he is confident his best friend is going to get in.

“Andrew’s right Mase, you are bound to get in,” Maya says a smile on her face as she looks at her brother and he smiles back at her.

“What about you Andrew? Have any plans?” Andy asks him and Andrew shrugs his shoulders.

“I know I want to be a doctor like my Papa and Carina I just don’t know where I want to go for premed. Carina seems to like it here so this is an option but I’m not sure yet, still keeping my options open. I’m applying all over hoping to get accepted multiple places,” Andrew says.

“Pizza’s here!” Carina says walking through the door the group excitedly turns towards her at the smell of Nino’s pizza.

“Good, I’m starving,” Maya says nearly tackling Carina as she grabs the pizza from Carina’s hands.

Carina chuckles as she gets the four plastic plates that she and Maya have and hands one to each of their brothers and her and Maya. The group each grabs a slice of pizza and starts talking about anything having a good time enjoying each other’s company. Eventually, Vic and Andy leave the four of them so they could get to their party.

“Do you know if Dean’s sister is coming this weekend?” Maya asks Carina thinking maybe they could introduce their brothers to her.

“She is but do you really think he is going to take her to a party?” Carina asks laughing and Maya follows suit.

“Touché. Alright, I am going to get ready are you both ready to go when we are?” Maya asks taking all of their plates into the bathroom to wash.

“Yep, I’m ready,” Mason says.

“All set, waiting on you guys now, we probably won’t leave for another two hours knowing Carina,” Andrew says making Maya cackle.

“I now remember why I like you,” Maya lightly chuckles and fist bumps him.

“I’m not that bad,” Carina says offended.

“Carina anytime we go out it takes you on average an hour and a half to get ready. Start getting ready so we can make it there at a reasonable hour.” Maya teases and Carina moves to defend herself but also knows they are correct.

“Fine.”

The three of them laugh as Carina starts to get ready and Maya finishes the dishes in the bathroom and puts them back where they belong. Maya moves over to the closet and grabs the first pair of jeans she finds and one of Carina’s band t-shirts. She goes into the bathroom and changes quickly before going out in the room to put on mascara at her desk, she throws on her shoes and she is ready in less than 20 minutes.

Andrew looks at her in awe and chuckles not knowing someone, especially a girl, could get ready so quickly. “You're ready? That quickly? Fascinating.”

“Well I will curl my hair but I wait until Carina uses it so it’s already heated up, That will take me a bit of time but not too long,” Maya laughs knowing it takes her no time at all to get ready.

“Do you two go to parties often?” Mason asks curiously as to what his sister's life is like at college.

“Define often,” Maya chuckles. “We don’t go out every weekend or during the week, I don’t go out all too much because of my scholarship but we do go every so often. Most weekends we spend in here watching reality TV and doing homework unless we are hanging out with our friends in the commons.”

“Can you not party with your scholarship?” Andrew asks.

“There’s no rule saying I can’t but if I get caught on campus outwardly drunk I run the risk of losing my scholarship. I have been openly drunk a few times on campus but never got stopped by the police,” Maya answers.

Carina comes out of the bathroom her make-up done and Maya is surprised, it didn’t take her as long as it normally does. “Did you take my red lipstick?”

“Maybe, I don’t remember,” Maya says trying to remember when they went out last if she used it.

“Maya! That was expensive,” Carina says half irritated and half-amused.

“Check my makeup, if I used it I might have accidentally put it with my stuff,” Maya says and Carina rolls her eyes.

“Usa il mio rossetto e poi cerca di rubarlo, giuro che sa essere così fastidiosa.” [Uses my lipstick and then tries to steal it, I swear she can be so annoying.] Carin grumbles under her breath making Andrew chuckle and look down at Maya who is looking up at him for a translation.

“She thinks your annoying for trying to steal her lipstick,” Andrew says laughing a little more, Mason joins in as well.

“I did not try to steal it! It was an accident!” Maya yells shaking her head.

“Sometimes your sister is hard to live with,” Maya says to Andrew.

“Tell me about it,” Andrew says rolling his eyes.

The group waits for Carina to finish getting ready and Maya to curl her hair before they finally head out. They walk towards Greek row before finally coming up on Sigma Phi and walk into the house.

Both Mason and Andrew are amazed at the scene of the college party, they had been to high school parties but they are nothing like this. They look around and follow their sisters into the kitchen where there is an array of different alcohol bottles and a punch bowl with a green liquid that one could only guess is random liquors and mixers thrown into a bowl.

Maya moves over to the table and pours herself a shot of tequila and downs it quickly making Carina chuckle as she watches her best friend.

“Whoa, that’s a lot of alcohol,” Mason says looking at the selection and deciding on his go-to rum and coke.

Andrew does the same putting way too much alcohol into the cup.

“That was a heavy pour, at that rate you’re going to be drunk after two of those,” Carina says a laugh in her voice as she shakes her head at her brother.

“Don’t worry about me I know my limit.”

“Remember you need to stay in our line of sight all night I don’t care what you do just don’t do anything inappropriate.” Maya says as both boys nod and moves over to a group of girls that seem to be their age.

“I thought we weren’t going to drink,” Carina says, talking about the shot she took previously grabbing a bottle of coke and pours herself a cup.

“If I have to sit here and babysit our brother’s I deserve at least two shots. I dislike frat parties when I am drunk and hate them sober. The floors are sticky and guys hitting on you every two seconds, not enjoyable.” Maya says pouring a second shot and Carina holds up a shot glass asking for some as well. Maya pours Carina one and they hold up their shots.

“Cheers!” Maya says smiling

“Saluti!” [Cheers] Carina says a smile on her face as well as they slam their shots down on the table before downing them.

“So how long are we staying here before dragging them back to the dorm?” Maya asks Carina.

“Before they start looking tipsy enough they aren’t be able to walk, I do not want to have to carry them home,” Carina says taking a sip of her coke feeling the warmth in her chest from her shot.

They go over to the kitchen table and sit down in the chairs there wanting to at least relax a little.

“I can’t believe they are graduating high school this year,” Maya says looking at both of their brothers before looking back to Carina who nods her head looking at Maya.

“I know, it feels like yesterday Andrea was crawling into my bed because he was scared of thunderstorms. Now he is all grown up and starting his own life,” Carina has a small pout on her lips, and Maya smiles thinking to herself how cute she looks right now.

“Yeah I remember when Mason and I were really little we were inseparable never wanting to be apart from each other, now he’s all grown up. It makes my heart hurt a little bit,” Maya says a matching pout on her lips, and both girl’s chuckle.

“Andrew says he might be coming here next year to do pre-med,” Maya says wondering if he told Carina about it yet.

“Yeah he asked me how I like the pre-med program here, I assumed it’s because he is considering coming here next year. I told him the truth, I like it but it’s very demanding, I don’t know if I steered him away or not.” Carina says with a laugh taking another sip of her drink.

“I don’t know I think he might come here; I wouldn’t be surprised. He wants to be just like his big sister, you’re his hero.” Maya says a proud smile on her face, she loves the relationship the two Deluca siblings have. She envies it sometimes, she and Mason started to have a good relationship after their mom left Lane but it’s still not what it used to be. She misses her relationship with her brother, but they are on their way back to that.

“I don’t know about that, he seems annoyed with me nine times out of ten,” Carina laughs not believing Maya’s words fully.

“I remember him telling me as much this past summer, said how he looks up to you. How you go after what you want and don’t stop until you get it, I have to say I agree with him. You’re kind of a badass honestly, kind of jealous.” Maya says with a wink and Carina blushes at the compliment and looks down at her cup not being able to meet Maya’s eyes.

“Thanks, you’re a badass too bambina in the same way, don’t sell yourself short. You are working so hard right now to train and it’s the off-season for track, you are constantly trying to improve and become better. And not just in your track either, you always give everything your all no matter what it is,” Carina says giving the compliment back.

Carina hates that Maya doesn’t believe in herself as much as she does, she doesn’t ever give herself enough credit, and sometimes it’s aggravating.

Maya has a soft and shy smile on her face wishing she saw herself the way Carina saw her, maybe if she did her life would be easier.

Carina looks around and realizes neither Mason nor Andrea is in her line of sight, she knew this was going to happen. She knew the both of them were going to wander off even though they specifically said not to. She trusted Mason but Andrea was trouble and could always persuade Mason to ‘live on the wild side.’

“Merda, they disappeared,” Carina swears under her breath and tells Maya they are gone.

“See I knew they weren’t going to follow your rules they are 18 at a college party with college girls.” Maya says laughing and getting up and getting herself another shot finally starting to feel the buzz.

“Since when are you so calm about this?” Carina asks shocked she didn’t jump up to go find them.

“Since I have three shots of tequila in my system, my care is kind of out the window. Plus I have seen you embarrass both of them before and it’s entertaining, I kind of want to see you do it.” Maya says through a laugh wanting to see what she’s going to do.

Carina loves seeing carefree Maya, it’s such a rare occurrence that she savors every moment of it. She is normally wound incredibly tight but when she lets loose she is a completely separate person.

“Okay well no more shots for you, I get the feeling i nostri due fratelli idioti [our two idiot brothers] are drunk enough and I don’t want to have to deal with a drunk Maya on top of that.” Carina chuckles taking the bottle of tequila from her hand and setting it down.

“Okay first I am a fun drunk, and second I am far off from being drunk. I am happily buzzed, enough to let my inhibitions down. We both know my limit is six shots. And third I wouldn’t do that to you, those two are going to be awful but those shots are going to make it bearable to deal with them.” Maya says a smile on her face as she takes Carina’s coke downing the rest before setting the cup down and washing the taste of tequila from her mouth.

“Well let’s find them so we can go back to the dorm, we have been here less than an hour and I already have to drag them out of here,” Carina says more than a little annoyed. She actually got ready for this party, if she knew she was only going to be here an hour she would have thrown on jeans and a t-shirt like Maya.

Carina moves into the family room of the house and doesn’t see them anywhere; she goes out front and sees both of them talking to two girls who are in her philosophy class.

“Andrea!!” Carina yells and barrels down the stairs and onto the lawn. Maya follows behind a smile on her face waiting to see what Carina is going to do. She spots Mason and glares at him motioning for him to get over here.

“Cosa ti avevo detto? Ti avevo detto di rimanere nel mio campo visivo e non potevi nemmeno farlo! Perché mi preoccupo?” [What did I tell you? I told you to stay in my line of sight and you couldn't even do that! Why do I even bother?] Carina is so mad she instantly goes to Italian not being able to see clearly let alone translate her anger into English.

“Carina you were being unreasonable We just wanted to have some fun,” Andrew says angrily, she is being so uptight. She is supposed to be the fun sister and Maya is supposed to be the unreasonable one, but he was wrong.

“Oh yeah? Shall I tell Ashley and Leah about how you still sleep with the toy dog you have had since you were born? Or that you are still in high school and aren't actually in college?” Carina says angry wanting to make him regret what he did.

“Wait you’re still in high school? He’s your younger brother?” Ashley asks really thinking he was in college.

“Si. He’s my stupid little brother,” Carina says never looking away from Andrea.

“See ya,” Leah says walking away with Ashley not far behind her.

“How drunk do you have to be not to follow a simple rule?” Carina says a little louder than she should.

“Car stop, why don’t we go back to the dorm and talk there,” Maya says reaching for Carina’s hand effectively stopping her. Carina turns to look at her and calms downs a little meeting Maya’s eyes knowing she is right.

“Careful don’t look her in the eyes, she might steal your soul,” Andrew says.

Maya’s eyes go wide, she knows he’s in for it now and she isn’t even going to stop her. She does laugh a little though thinking the comment is slightly funny.

Carina whips her head around and glares at him, if she could actually steal souls his would have been gone in seconds and she wouldn’t even be sorry.

“Start walking before I start screaming in Italian.” Carina says calmly pointing in the direction of the dorms.

Mason and Maya watch the scene between the two siblings scared and in awe. “I can’t believe he said that” Maya says.

“I can, he has just as bad a temper as Carina does especially when he is embarrassed. You remember what happened our sophomore year.” Mason says as they both follow behind the two Italians towards the dorms.

“Yeah, the bleach incident…I still don’t know how Carina pulled that off.” Maya says laughing remembering the day Andrew came to school with orange hair from bleach.

“Neither do I but that was the day I became scared of her and slightly in love with her for pulling something like that off without him knowing. I mean I had to be the one to tell him, I had to stop him from finding her and killing her.” Mason laughed remembering him having to hold back his best friend who had bright orange hair.

“Yeah, now that you say it I’m not exactly surprised he said that” Maya says. They are a decent way behind the two of them who are yelling in Italian back and forth making Maya chuckle.

“Why are you so calm about all of this? I thought the two of you would be reversed and you would have come after us. Andrew was a little scared it was going to be you when we snuck off.” Mason says, Andrew has always been a little scared of Maya, even if he does test his limits with her a lot of the time.

“I have three shots of tequila in me so my levels of being uptight and angry are pretty low. Plus I wanted to see Car embarrass you and Andrew but she only got to him this time.” Maya says pouting a little and Mason laughs bumping shoulders with his sister.

“So on a level from 1 to 10 how drunk are you?” Maya asks curiously.

“Like a four, I just feel buzzed right now, Andrew though is probably an 8” Mason laughs as they both look forward seeing him stumbling and swaying back and forth. His flailing arms as he talks almost making him topple over.

“He is going to be so hungover tomorrow…So whose idea was it to break off from us? Was it Andrew’s?” Maya asks as they start coming up on their building.

“It was mine actually, the girls we were talking to wanted to go out back so I said we should follow them. It didn’t take much convincing I will say that though, it was a pretty lame rule.” Mason says and Maya is shocked and impressed at the same time.

“You risked the wrath of Carina Deluca just to talk to a girl you’ll never see beyond tonight?” Maya asks still in shock it was Mason who started this.

“Maya she was hot! I wasn’t going to turn down the opportunity to get a chance to maybe make out with her. I thought it would take longer for you guys to notice we weren’t there.” Mason complains and Maya laughs as they get to the door of the building.

“I will admit it was a lame rule, I want to make it a point that it was Carina’s and not mine I want that to be known. I was just going to let you guys get into whatever trouble you were going to and make you regret it tomorrow.” Maya says as they get on the elevator with the Deluca siblings who are now talking as if nothing was ever wrong.

“I don’t understand how they can do that,” Maya says not understanding their sibling dynamic.

“That’s because we have never been like that, we haven’t ever been that close.” Mason says it without even thinking about it and he immediately regrets it.

“Maya I-” He tries to apologize as the elevator gets to their floor.

“Mase it’s fine, you’re right we haven’t ever been that close. But hopefully one day we can be.” Maya says bumping his shoulder hoping her words will come true one day. She hopes that one day she and Mason’s relationship can be as close as they were when they were growing up. Before Lane took over and ruined everything.

“You’re a really good sister Maya, I’m sorry I don’t say it enough,” Mason says as they reach their door and Carina unlocks it and lets them into the room.

“Thanks, Mason, you’re a pretty good brother too. Even if you cause trouble where you shouldn’t.” Maya says laughing and ruffling his hair making him laugh and move away from the attack.

Maya smiles and looks at the scene before her, Carina and Andrew sitting on their futon laughing at something one of them said, and Mason sitting down on the couch listening in on the story starting to laugh along with them.

Having siblings is a weird situation, one minute you are at each other’s throats, and the next you are best friends. You can instantly flip a switch and be fine, they are the only person who can understand what it was like growing up with your parents. It makes for a specific kind of bond that you can’t get with anyone else. A bond that is so unique you wouldn’t give it up for anything. You may get annoyed with each other from time to time or argue but that’s someone you would lay down your life for in a heartbeat.

The two sets of siblings may not get along all of the time but they loved each other and that’s what matters in the end.
