confession

Summary:

After a very long time of crushing on his best friend, Giuk is finally able to come out and tell Dongmyeong how he feels with the (unasked for) help of Yonghoon, Hyungu, and Harin.

Work Text:

Yonghoon, Harin, Hyungu, Dongmyeong, and Giuk all sat together as they talked and blatantly ignored the movie they had all collectively agreed to watch. Hyungu sat on the floor in front of Yonghoon who was sitting on the couch, cross-legged. To the right of Yonghoon was Dongmyeong who was next to Harin, his head resting on Harin’s shoulder. Giuk was already having a rough day, so he distanced himself from the rest of the group. He sat closer to Hyungu, but still away from him, on the floor hugging his knees. He wasn’t paying any attention to what was happening so one could imagine his shock when he heard Yonghoon and Hyungu chanting as they encouraged Harin to kiss Dongmyeong.

He perked up and let his legs lay naturally in front of him. He looked up and back to the right to see Dongmyeong just as he gave Harin a peck on the cheek. It was normal for Dongmyeong to show affection like this but still made Giuk’s heart hurt. And to top it all off, as Hyungu and Yonghoon continued to cheer them on, he watched as Harin got extremely close to genuinely kissing Dongmyeong on the lips.

He decided never to find out whether or not it actually happened as he quickly looked away before it could have. However, the screams coming from Dongmyeong himself and the other three made Giuk want to run away.

So he did, however he did have plans on returning eventually. He got up and attempted to leave the apartment without being noticed, which failed as Dongmyeong made a mad dash for Giuk and pulled him out onto the patio.

“You good?” Dongmyeong asked as he slid the glass doors closed.

“Yeah,” Giuk said. Dongmyeong could see right through him despite Giuk’s back being turned toward him.

“Giuk, I’ve known you for over a decade, you can’t lie to me, it just doesn’t work anymore.” Giuk could only sigh, knowing it was true. He turned around and looked at Dongmyeong to have a proper conversation with him.

“Fine… I don’t know how to say this,” he let out another sigh. “I understand if you obviously don’t feel the same or if you’re... straight…” The words had basically been said and Dongmyeong knew what he meant, but he was a bit caught off guard by the very last thing Giuk managed to say.

“You think I’m straight?” Dongmyeong asked, almost offended.

“I mean- I don’t want to assume anything,” Giuk paused, retracing his memory as to where he had left off. “Anyways,” he paused once more. Regardless of him basically already having said what he needed to say, he proceeded; “I like... you; I have for I think a year, but only recently was able to admit it. I don’t want it to be awkward but I can’t keep it from you even if you don’t feel the same.”

“I can’t believe you didn't notice,”

“Notice what?”

“I thought I was being too obvious... if either of us should’ve been scared of the other being straight, it should have been me—which I was. But now,” Dongmyeong hugged Giuk, “Now I know you’re at least something.”

Giuk hugged him back.

“I was worried you liked Harin—”

Harin ? That man is straighter than straight, are you kidding? As a friend, he’s great and yes, he’s hot too, but I couldn’t imagine liking him for a split second.” Giuk chuckled a bit.

“So you exclusively like guys, right?”

“Yes. What about you?”

“I think I’m bi and I’ve been pondering the idea of being asexual, as well,” Giuk said. Dongmyeong hummed in acknowledgement.

“Thank you for telling me; both things. And to be a bit clearer, I do like you in the way I’m assuming you like me. But let’s not use the word ‘like’—I love you in the way you’d like to love me; more than how we have for the last however many years as friends. Is that what you meant?”

“Yeah,” Giuk mumbled, suddenly a bit embarrassed for some reason.

“So, how about it? Should we try something more?” Dongmyeong asked as he pulled away from the hug. Completely forgetting to respond, his stomach swarmed with butterflies at the thought of something he’d been wanting to do all night—the thought of potentially going through with it. A sudden confidence boost came over him, so he decided, Fuck it, here goes nothing.

His hands found their way to either side of Dongmyeong’s face, thumbs near his cheekbones and the rest of his hands closer to the back of Dongmyeong's neck. “Is it too early?”

“Absolutely not,” his certainty scared Giuk a bit, but his dominance scared him even more as it wasn’t Giuk who officially initiated the kiss—it was Dongmyeong.

Giuk’s eyes widened briefly but he quickly shut them upon realizing how awkward it may be later. Dongmyeong’s arms wrapped around his waist for as long as the act lasted which made Giuk’s heart flutter even more. If Dongmyeong did anything else, he was sure his heart would fly away. The kiss couldn’t have lasted any longer than five seconds but it felt like it had ended too quickly for both of them.

So Giuk pulled him in again.

This time, instead of his hands laying where they had begun, he brought himself closer to Dongmyeong by wrapping his arms around his neck. This prompted Dongmyeong to hold Giuk tighter as well. This time, instead of just one long kiss, it was multiple shorter ones. They weren’t quite making out, but they were definitely close. Dongmyeong felt exactly how Giuk did—like his heart was going to explode and that the butterflies filling his stomach were going to make him throw up (in a good way) if they didn't stop flapping their wings. Neither of them ever thought that this day would come, but there they were.

Only about a minute had passed but they were able to make it feel like it had lasted a lifetime. Surprisingly, Giuk wasn’t as flustered as he assumed he would be. This night was just full of surprises, wasn’t it?

And now, Giuk was going to ask the question that was practically eating at his mind the whole night.

“Do you wanna— do you—” he kept stumbling over his words. “Why am I so nervous now?” Dongmyeong laughed lowly.

“I think I know what you’re trying to ask, and the answer is yes,”

“What was the question then?”

“‘Do you want to be my boyfriend?’”

“Yes,”

"Wait, 'yes' as in that was the question. I mean, yes as an answer too, but—" Dongmyeong touched his forehead to Giuk’s and brushed some of his hair back. “I love you—in a different way now.” he smiled.

A shy smile came to Giuk's face. "I love you too,"

“We have a confession,” Hyungu said, referring to he, Harin and Yonghoon. The five of them were once again all hanging out with a movie in the background that no one was paying attention to.

“And what’s that?” Giuk asked. He was sitting in Dongmyeong's lap with Dongmyeong's arms wrapped around his waist.

“Well, we set you two up the night you confessed,” Dongmyeong and Giuk’s jaws dropped slightly. Honestly, they weren't too sure why they were surprised—what else should they have expected?

Harin continued from where Hyungu left off, “The plan was to make you jealous,” he said, looking at Giuk. “So that, hopefully, you two would finally realize that you were in love because obviously neither of you could see that and we all knew that you two were just going to suffer if you didn’t find out.” Dongmyeong could have been mad for almost having to kiss Harin on the mouth for nothing, but it got him with Giuk so he couldn’t complain all that much.

“The three of us were talking one night and decided that when the time arose, we would do whatever it took to make Giuk at least a little jealous, and clearly it worked,” Yonghoon said in an almost teasing way, as if to say that Giuk got jealous a little too easily. Giuk rolled his eyes.

“You're welcome,” Yonghoon said, matter-of-factly.

“No, thank you.” Dongmyeong said.

“How rude,” Yonghoon huffed, getting very over dramatically offended. “At least I wasn't oblivious to Hyungu of all people,” Yonghoon said, holding him closer.

“It's because you're old,” even though it made no sense in this context, the others began to snicker along with Dongmyeong—even Hyungu, which later earned him a bruise on his upper-arm.

“If I’m older than you, you should respect me!”

“But you’re too old!”

Son Dongmyeong!
