Summary:

Luz introduces Amity to AO3 and Azura fanfiction.

Work Text:

“Hold on a second, Luz. Are you telling me that there’s an entire library full of Azura fanfiction?!” Amity squeals as her eyes widen.

“Yup…well, sorta” replies Luz. “It’s not exactly a library. And it's not just for Azura. There’s this site called Archive of Our Own which is a repository for works from all sorts of fandoms.” Luz hops up from where she had been sitting on the bed, brushing Amity’s frazzled purple locks, and makes her way towards her phone sitting untouched on her desk.

“I think I need you to go back a sec, Luz. Site? I still don’t really get what a ‘site’ is exactly.” Amity said with a playful pout.

Luz strode back towards the bed, hopping on and displaying the screen to Amity.

“That thing’s like a scroll, right?” Amity questions, scrunching up her brow.

“Pretty much,” Luz says. “It can do a whole lot more though, such as…” Luz presses her finger on the compass icon, opening Safari. Tapping into the search bar, she types “AO3” and is promptly greeted with a page of results.

“Woah! So this is a ‘site’?”

“Not quite yet, Amity. This is just the search page.” Luz clicks on the first result, opening up Archive of Our Own. Once the page loads, she indicates her phone and continues “ This is a ‘site’”.

“Oh, you don’t have to be so dramatic about it Luz. It’s no more impressive than Penstagram is.” Amity scoffs, yet still peers into the phone’s screen, curious to see what this “Archive of Our Own” was all about. She is met with a series of flashes as Luz rapidly clicks buttons and lands on entirely new screens. Finally, Luz stops on a page with the header “1-20 of 31459 Works in The Good Witch Azura - Mildred Featherwhyle”.

Luz hands the phones to Amity who scrolls down, astounded. “What do all these symbols and words mean, Luz?? This says “Hecate/Azura” and it also says “Angst”, “Hurt/Comfort”, and “Enemies to Lovers”. There’s this red symbol here, I’m not quite sure what it means.”

“Ah, ok. Have you ever read or watched something and thought two characters would make a really good couple?”

Amity looks down, blushing. The fanart contained in Amity’s notebooks was more than enough evidence of her love of pairing fictional characters. “Yes” she squeaked out.

Pointing down at her phone, Luz says “So this ‘Hecate/Azura’ thing actually means the pairing between Hecate and Azura.”

“Ok—that makes sense! So ‘Hurt/Comfort’ is the pairing between ‘Hurt’ and ‘Comfort’? I don’t remember those characters in Azura. Huh, they must be from a book I haven’t…”

Amity’s ramble was cut off by a soft giggle from Luz, “Actually, that’s just describing the content of the fic. Like there’ll be ‘hurt’, but in the end the characters will get ‘comfort’. I mean, it's an ‘Enemies to Lovers’ fic so there’s gotta be a little hurt, no?”

“‘Enemies to Lovers’!?” splutters Amity with a start. “Why would people want to read about that?”

“Um, Amity. Aren’t you forgetting something?”

Luz looks expectantly at Amity. After a long stretch of silence, recognition flashes through Amity’s eyes. “Oh!” she says. “Yeah.” Scrunching her brows, she questions Luz, “We were never really enemies though, were we?”

“I mean…it’s not like we were out to kill each other. Still, I imagine if we were fictional characters people would probably write ‘Enemies to Lovers’ fanfiction about us” replied Luz.

After another pause, Luz felt the need to change the subject, “Anyways. That fic you were looking at the tags for is actually really good. Highly recommend. I sorted the page by kudos, so it's pretty much the best Azura fic out there. I read it before I…well you know.”

“I’m not even gonna ask what ‘kudos’ are.” Examining the spot Luz is pointing at, Amity continues, “I don’t know, Luz. ‘Hurt’ and ‘Enemies to Lovers’? I’m not sure that’s really what I need right now. We’ve had more than enough hurt.” She tilts her head down towards her feet, covered in a pair of Luz’s old socks.

“The ‘hurt’ isn’t that bad—the fic can be pretty lighthearted, too. See, it has the ‘fluff’ tag. It’s a modern day Superhero AU with Azura as a beloved hero and Hecate as the villain she’s trying to stop. Well modern day human world, that is. If you’re interested in Azura fanfiction, it's worth a try Ams.” Luz suggests, nudging Amity.

“Okay, Luz. I’ll try reading it.” Amity says with a sigh, hesitant yet terribly curious. She takes the phone from Luz, and settles down onto the bed.

Knock. Knock.

“What??” questions Amity, surprising herself with the tone of irritation in her voice.

“Amity,” Luz’s voice responds, “It's time for dinner now. Ya gotta come down and eat something.”

“Just a couple more minutes, I’m nearly finished.” Amity says, her bloodshot eyes never once leaving the phone.

Five minutes later, Amity comes running down the stairs. With a tired huff, she shouts, “Luz! You didn’t tell me there was a sequel. It ended on a cliffhanger. My heart…”

“You liked it, huh?” Luz says with a smirk.

“Luz, stop smiling. You lied to me—there was so much ‘hurt’ in that. I need to know what happened to Hecate.”

“You need to eat dinner, Ams. Hold on a second, what about Hecate? What do you mean ‘what happened to Hecate?”

“You know, the massive cliffhanger the fic ended on??” Amity questions Luz as though it were obvious.

Luz thought back. “The massive…holy guacamole! Wait, do you know if the author started the sequel??”

“Luz, I don’t know how to check that!”

Luz started towards Amity. “Well come on then, let's go check. We need to find out what happened to Hecate!!” Luz grabs onto Amity’s hand and the two girls run briskly up the stairs.

Meanwhile, Willow, Gus, Hunter, and Camila sit at the dining table sharing looks of utter confusion.
