Work Text:

“Peter!” Rumi shouts, rushing to his side, “are you okay?” He shakes his whole body.

“Yes, Peter’s fine,” Exandroth laughs through Peter’s body.

“Shit-“ Rumi whispers to himself. Just the one thing he didn’t want happening, letting Exandroth take over. Peter gets seriously hurt whenever Exandroth corrupts him.

“Now, let me take over, Rumi,” Exandroth twists his head as he stares at Rumi, carrying Peter’s unconscious body over him. Light exerts from Peter’s eyes, causing an intense glare off of his cracked and shattered glasses. The beams of light blind Rumi and the enemies they’re facing. Thanatos stands to the side simply watching.

“Exandroth!” Rumi yells, trying desperately to reach Peter’s heart, “We can handle anything without you!” Rumi rubs his eyes and makes a jump to a small elven man and slices them with his harp blade.

“Oh yeah?” Exandroth sends a beam of light to the same elf-like figure. The person is sent back to a nearby tree. Their body crashes into the truck and as they fall to the ground, there is an obvious elf-shaped mark embedded in the tree.

Rumi shakes his head, desperately fighting off the enemies as they continue to attack the group of adventurers. Thanatos has no problem. When did Rumi become the weakest member of the group? He felt almost defeated. For the first time in years, he felt fear, and the worst of all, pain. A striking pain that stabs his heart as if his ribs have been pierced with the sharpest sword.

Then a shot of energy courses through Rumi’s whole being. He can’t let one tiny thing break him down like this. He has to fight back.

“Exandroth,” Rumi smiles, grimly, “watch out!” He yells and points at a non-existent object behind the demon.

“What-“ Rumi jumps up into the air and slices Exandroth through the abdomen.

Suddenly, it hits him. He didn’t cut through Exandroths body. He cut through Peter’s. Shit. Shit. Shit!

“Oh fuck me, fuck fuck!” Rumi cries, throwing his blade to the ground. Thanatos can handle all of them, there’s not that many enemies left anyway. The fog in Peter’s glasses dissipates, revealing Peter’s shiny brown eyes with dark circles underneath them.

“Rumi?” Peter blinks his eyes open. Rumi shakes his head.

“I’m so sorry, Peter!” Rumi cries once more. He coughs and stands up above Peter, attempting to keep his composure despite nearly killing his friend.

“Rumi, what happened?” Peter asks, “I know Exandroth took over, but why does my body sting so bad?”

Rumi wipes a tear from his face, acting like it’s sweat from the difficult battle, “Here, I’m trying to get you all patched up, just- just stay still Peter!” Rumi tries his hardest to focus his energy to heal Peter’s wound, but alas, nothing arises from his fingertips, “shit-“ Rumi swears.

“What’s going on, Rumi, please tell me!” Peter’s voice becomes low and commanding. Rumi jumps back out of fright.

“I simply lost my temperament is all, Peter, and I- I’m so sorry, I-“ Rumi stops speaking before he digs himself into a hole that he cannot get out of.

Peter struggles to sit up. He weakly reaches his hands up to Rumi’s face. His hands are warm and comforting. Peter pulls Rumi’s face close to his own, “Now,” His voice is hushed and low, “tell me exactly what you did,” Peter lays back down on the ground leaving Rumi flustered and surprised. Rumi turns around to hide his blushing face.

“Exandroth took over, I’m sure you knew this,” Rumi starts, “and he was testing me, and then-“ Rumi pauses. How does one say, ‘I became super petty and sad and then I had a temper tantrum and sliced my best friend’s body open’ without sounding like a total narcissist?, “and Exandroth was telling me things that I truly did not want to hear- and- and-“ Rumi feels a tight ball begin to close his throat. Tears prick at the edge of his eyes, “and I lost my cool, so I attacked Exandroth, and in doing so, harmed you, Peter,” Rumi feels a tear roll down his face, and he let’s it, “I do not know how I forgot about you, Peter, you’re so unforgettable, your face, your eyes, all of it, I cannot believe I let myself do that to you Peter, I will never be able to figure myself.” More tears stream down Rumi’s rosy cheeks. He kneels down next to Peter, “I will do anything as long as you forgive me,” He begs.

Peter smiles solemnly. He sits up and grabs Rumi’s face once more. Rumi feels his hand automatically drifting to touch Peter’s. He sinks into the warm touch of Peter’s small, but firm hand. Peter wipes the tears from either side of Rumi’s face.

“I forgive you, Rumi,” Peter sits up, removing his hand, but leaving the feeling of it upon Rumi’s face. He leans in close to Rumi, “I will always forgive you,” He places a soft kiss where his hand once resided on Rumi’s chiseled jawline.

“Peter, I-“ Rumi sits there overwhelmed by the advances his lowly little friend had made, but he can’t help but believe that those were the advances Rumi was wishing he would make, “I don’t know how you can forgive me, I have basically ruined your life!” Rumi over exaggerates

“You could never ruin my life, Rumi! You’re so awesome to be around if I didn’t forgive you and you left me, I’ll be honest- I would probably die!” Peter laughs.

“But- But you have Exandroth, Peter, you can easily live on your own with just Exandroth!” Rumi reasons. Why is he acting out? He enjoyed what Peter did.

“I don’t mean I would die in the face of danger, Rumi,” Peter giggles once more, “I mean I die- I would die thinking about you every single day!”

Rumi has no clue how to respond.

All he can manage to croak out is-

“Thank you, Peter,” Rumi wraps the boy in a hug as tears begin to soak into Peter’s polyester shirt.
