This fic reminds me of the technicality on how our internal body temperature and the temperature of the outside world works. Heat bothers us because it raises our temperature beyond what is comfortable. This means if Kai runs on a naturally higher internal temperature, he will either be the most comfortable in the summer (his temperature is not being raised by the weather due to being more than the weather) or he will be the least comfortable (his temperature always being high might bring him constant discomfort so, the temperature rising in the summer makes that worse).
Me personally, I think the first one makes more sense. This could also be why Zane was in the fridge during s1, he could have a naturally lower body temperature and as a result it is easier to raise far beyond comfortable in high temperatures.
