Notes:

Work Text:

Parker pats Wednesday on the back, and for the first time in a very long time, and for the first time with another person outside of her family, Wednesday doesn't flinch or pull away. "I'm going to face the gang," she says firmly, narrowing her eyes at Bethany as she keys in her password to her locker, her fingers flying over the front of the lock. "Take matters into my own hands." Her fingers curl into fists. "I'm going to try and take care of it by myself, Addams. Stop her from being a big bully and making fun of me. Of you. Of us."

Wednesday extends a hand out to Parker as she turns away, but then draws her hand back, hesitating, and instead just watches her retreating back. "Be careful," she says, and when Parker spins around to look back at her, she crosses her arms over her chest and looks away, averting her gaze and instead looking back at Bethany as she walks away, throwing her platinum blond hair over her shoulder. "Try not to get infected."

"Aw, Addams," Parker says, almost forgetting what her goal had been in the first place when the tips of her long fingers brush together with Wednesday's, their knuckles bumping when they stand together that close. "That is the nicest thing you have ever said to me." She quirks an eyebrow up at Wednesday, her dark eyes growing wide beneath the shadow Wednesday had taught her to put on her eyelids. "Don't tell me you're beginning to grow fond of me or something, because I would never let that happen."

"Don't get used to it, Needler," Wednesday says, rolling her eyes as Parker reaches over and slings a skinny arm around her shoulders. "I'm just trying to acclimate to the school, get used to this whole being nice to other people because I can use them for my own benefit kind of thing. It's what all the-" She gestures with her fingers, shivering as the word slips out of her mouth.  She would never have said that before she met Parker. "-cool kids do, isn't it? "

"Here," Parker says, pulling out the unicorn hair clip she wears in her now-dyed dark hair as a compromise with her mother. "Something to remember me by." The corner of her mouth turns up halfway into a smirk. "It's for when I..." She sighs dramatically. "...don't make it."

"You know, Needler, I'm not used to this. With your pessimism, you could freeze the sun," Wednesday says, but a smile tugs at the corners of her lips. "But I like it. Pessimism looks good on you. What do you think?"

"Stop flattering me, Addams," Parker says, a smile twitching at the corners of her lips. "It's not working. And I've got to leave now. See you later at my house?"

Parker raises her hand in a fist, and Wednesday looks at it for a moment before bumping hers with Parker's.
