Work Text:

Jacob gives the whole summer camp experience a solid 2/10.

He would've let it fall all the way down to a zero, but he did get to see Emma naked, so the two points can count for like, one tit each or something. They were nice tits. Jacob will miss those tits. Jacob will miss Emma in general.

Emma in general is what's responsible for the eight point deduction though, preventing the whole summer from rounding out into a perfect 10/10 experience. She just had to be all pretty and fun and good with her mouth and then go and say, "It's not like this is a break up or anything, Jacob, we weren't even really dating in the first place, or did you forget that this was all just meant to be a meaningless fling?"

Jacob remembered thinking at the time that he would've prefered if she had just straight up punched him in the face instead.

It's not even like he's never had a fling before, it's just that he actually liked Emma, likes Emma, and calling her his girlfriend just sounds infinitely better than ex summer camp fling he's never going to see again.

"You are giving off some serious Sad Abandoned Dog vibes right now," Kaitlyn remarks, kind as ever. If Emma didn't already so thoroughly fuck up his summer, Kaitlyn would've gotten her own three point deduction for sure.

"Okay, first of all, if I'm giving off any vibes it's Single And Sexy And Irresistible To The Ladies vibes." He flexes his arms, trying not to wither under the extremely unimpressed look she gives him. "Second, I am definitely going to miss you the least."

Kaitlyn doesn't even bother giving that a response, just rolls her eyes at him as they approach the car's open trunk.

When she bends down to pick up one of the bags on the ground, Jacob stares. At her ass, specifically, because it's like, right there, and it's not like he's in love with Emma or anything, so it's not a crime to look. The yoga pants compliment all of Kaitlyn's legs though, it's not just an ass thing. He's pretty sure he saw Ryan sneaking a couple glances earlier too.

It's hard not to look at Kaitlyn. She's the second hottest of the girl counsellors here, which isn't saying much considering there are only three, but technically, if Jacob removes his bias for Emma, Kaitlyn would totally take the top spot. Hotness has no bearing on whether she's a good person or not, so even though she's the worst person ever, Jacob can admit to himself she's also like... smokin'.

"There, those are the last of the bags." Kaitlyn stands back up, dusting her hands off, and Jacob manages to avert his gaze right before she catches him looking.

Jacob shuts the trunk. "So we're all leaving camp single, completely unattached," he sighs, dramatic in the way that he knows will bug Kaitlyn. "I had good money on Nick and Abi figuring their shit out."

The scoff is expected, as well as the you're so dumb and pathetic look she shoots him. "Yeah, no way was that ever actually going to happen. Abi's the sweet, romantic, take it slow type, and Nick's got a whole nice guy thing going on but he's definitely just like every other horny ass lame ass boy out there."

"At least he's got game," Jacob shrugs, "unlike you. I could teach you a thing or two if you want, you know. Then maybe you can finally stop doing your weird staring thing with Ryan and just get his number, or his tongue in your mouth."

Kaitlyn makes a sound that's a cross between ugh and god and shoves at his shoulder. "This coming from the guy who got dumped like literally two minutes ago?"

Ouch.

"Hey, at least I got some this summer!" He refrains from admitting that he would rather have just steered clear of Emma entirely if this was all he was going to get from the relationship.

She rolls her eyes at him again before seemingly deciding she's done with the conversation and crawling into the car. She seems to be making a point of showing how much she doesn't want to be talking to him, so rather than taking shotgun, she crawls all the way into the backseat, arms crossed over her chest. He has no idea why she's taking all this personally all of a sudden, as if she hasn't said meaner things to him this entire summer, but whatever the reason, he refuses to let her have the last word.

"What are you doing?" She hisses, as he crawls into the car and throws himself onto the seat beside her.

"I'm being the best bro ever," he replies, grinning at the way she bristles at his answer, "I'm going to teach you how to win over the guy of your dreams."

Kaitlyn blinks, shocked into silence, and then she bursts out laughing. It's not the mocking, fake kind of laughing either. It's like actual, bent over, this is hilarious laughing. Jacob doesn't think he's ever heard Kaitlyn laugh like this in the entire summer they've been at Hackett's Quarry. He almost forgets to be offended. Almost.

"What the hell, man? I'm trying to help you here, out of the goodness of my heart."

Kaitlyn stops laughing long enough to level him a disbelieving stare. "I do not need any help with my flirting. Seriously, like, look at me."

Good point, Jacob thinks, though he obviously doesn't say this out loud. "If that was enough then you would be making out with Ryan right now, but you're not. C'mon, let me teach you some of my tricks, it'll totally work, one hundred percent guaranteed."

Her eyes are saying you are a total moron, but he can see a hint of a smile tugging at her lips, so he knows he's won this round. "Fine then. Since you're so confident, lay it on me."

He's actually a little surprised she's going with it, but he knows he needs to act fast before she goes back to being mean and making him feel approximately two feet tall, so he closes in before she can protest and throws an arm over her shoulder. "Most important bit is physical contact, because we're all just animals underneath, you know? Just touch him somewhere, all casual, and if he's not a total virgin or dumbass or something, he'll definitely get the hint."

Kaitlyn's eyes widen a bit at the sudden proximity, but she doesn't pull away. Doesn't even slap him like he half expected she would. She's just staring at him a little intensely, and suddenly he feels as if he's entered dangerous territory.

"You are absolute shit at giving advice," she says, voice a bit quieter than usual.

This is the closest he's ever been to Kaitlyn, he's pretty sure. If he'd tried this at any other point, in any other place, she definitely would've pushed him or kicked him or something. She's not doing it now, though, which is weird on all sorts of levels.

"I'm serious," his own voice comes out just barely above a whisper, like he's scared of ruining the atmosphere, "we're all physical creatures at the end of the day."

They're engaging in some sort of staring contest now, and neither of them are willing to back down.

"That cannot be it," she deadpans, arching an eyebrow.

"I was just getting to the next part, damn," he very much was not, he's literally just making this up as he goes. "Right, so, the next part is, obviously... to make him think about you naked."

Kaitlyn looks very close to bursting out laughing again. "You know, I'd expect this kind of thing from one of our campers, not you."

The look on her face is annoying, so he inches closer again just to watch her expression falter. Her mouth does a very satisfying thing where it twitches, like she's trying to appear unaffected even though she's actually extremely affected.

"Our campers are smart, they know what's up," he's grinning again, going for a casualness that he very much does not feel anymore. "Trust me, all you need to do is just bring up some no clothes required activities in a conversation and it'll work like a charm. Like, if Ryan's talking about his bad music or ghost podcasts or whatever, you can just casually mention how you were thinking of taking a shower or something and then boom, he's thinking about you naked."

"Right... so he goes, blah blah blah Hag of Hackett's Quarry, and I go, shower."

"Okay well obviously you wouldn't just say it like that. Just— like, talk about camp, say something like, 'have you ever thought about skinny dipping in the lake?' and then you can let his imagination do the rest."

This isn't at all how he won over Emma, but it should be easier with Ryan, considering he's a guy. Guys are simple, anyway, Jacob can attest to that personally.

She seems to think about it for a second before nodding. "I think I got it. Why don't you pretend to be Ryan and I'll test it out right now? You can tell me how well it's working."

He doesn't actually get a chance to answer because she leans in all of a sudden. She brings her face closer, and he can very clearly feel her hand that's now resting on his thigh. "Hey, Ryan," this close Jacob can feel her breath brush against his cheek, "have you ever thought about skinny dipping in the lake?"

And because Jacob is a very, very simple man with a caveman brain, he immediately proceeds to think about Kaitlyn naked, skinny dipping in the lake.

His mouth is dry and his brain is mush and Kaitlyn is still as hot as she's ever been. "Okay," wow, he's thinking, "it's working. It is definitely working."

The air is thick, the moment between them charged with something very familiar, when she asks, "What's next?"

Kaitlyn already knows what comes next, though. She's the one who finally closes the gap between them and kisses him. Jacob pulls her closer and wraps his arm around her waist as he kisses back, a little hard and rushed and fevered. Her hands are holding onto his shoulders so that she can reposition herself and slide onto his lap, the movement making him groan into her mouth, though that's partially just the result of her parting her lips to give his tongue some free space to roam.

They're just full on making out now. In the camp van.

It's like a rubber band just snapped and now the two months of sexual attraction and tension they've been keeping locked up is just bursting out. Kaitlyn's hands go from Jacob's shoulders to his face, then to the back of his head as she starts tugging on his hair just a bit. His hands, meanwhile, have been steadily sliding up under her shirt the whole time she's been on his lap. This is no PG-13 Rom Com first kiss.

There is something kind of comical about the way they get interrupted though, by a loud knock on the hood of the car. Kaitlyn doesn't even get off his lap, just turns around, as Jacob cranes his neck around her to see who's up front. Dylan's very amused face greets them from the other side of the windshield. He holds up two fingers, two minutes for them to get off each other before they accidentally give Mr. H a front row audience to their make out session.

Kaitlyn sighs as she finally gets off of Jacob's lap, the two of them attempting to readjust their clothes in silence as Dylan walks off with a shitty little smirk on his face.

It's a bit awkward now that the tension's faded a bit and he can think clearly again. He wonders if maybe he should feel guilty, considering the fact that him and Emma were still so freshly separated. He doesn't though, he's relieved instead, like he's finally figured something out. He also really wants to do that again, and when he turns to face Kaitlyn, he's pretty sure that look on her face means she feels the exact same way.

"Guess you really do know your stuff after all," Kaitlyn says.

Jacob snorts. "Like I said, one hundred percent guarantee."

They descend back into silence, but it feels a bit more comfortable than before. After a while Jacob can hear voices approaching the car, and just as he's worrying about no longer being alone with Kaitlyn anymore, she pulls on his hand.

He looks down and she's got his palm flipped over on her leg. The feeling of the sharpie on his skin tickles a bit, but he doesn't make a sound as she writes her phone number down.

Nick opens the car door and steps in just as Kaitlyn clicks the cap back onto the sharpie. Jacob places his hand palm down over his jeans, and cracks some random joke at whatever Nick says to the two of them.

When the car finally pulls away from Hackett's Quarry, as he listens to the backdrop of Emma and Abigail bickering about something, Jacob carefully considers his options. Continue to mope around over Emma, who's clearly already done with him, or give this new thing with Kaitlyn a shot?

Yeah. The answer's kind of obvious.

This summer might end up getting a 10/10 after all.
